Golden Compass?

Care to back this claim up? If you just throw that statement out there like that, without proof, you make yourself and those who have the same views as you look like idiots.

Now, it is true that the Golden Compass trilogy mocks "religion". But the religion mocked by Pullman is ritualistic and spiritually empty. You see, Pullman's disdain for organized religion is only directed at the religions who wish only to control and oppress the worshippers instead of providing them with spiritual guidance and direction,
meaning Pullman's trilogy, though perceived to by some, does NOT mock modern Christianity. It only criticizes the ritual of religion, not the spiritual substance.
See what I'm getting at?

Not true. Snakes on a Plane videos were comming out before the movie.

And they sucked.

Just saw the movie and was very disappointed. I might go into more detail later but basically, I would really advise that fans of the book do NOT go see it.

They end the movie LONG before it should end. To those who read the books, it ends before the scene with Lyra and Asriel and the Dust, it ends after the events at Bolvangar. Just.......pfffffff

lol. there was ONE funny S.o.a.p. parody, but I'll not go into that now.

Wait, I just realized, finally someone who has SEEN the movie critics it on it's content, not meaning. Thank you.

Ah. We could take em on, we're americans. We could blow their heads off if we really wanted to, but they have allies also, so we could get burned pretty bad.
's exactly the viewpoint I was talking about. Don't blow my head off too quickly there, Mista Shadow Sah. ;>>

People like you need to read more books and get less caught up in media hype. If you don't know anything about something, don't say nothing about it. Capice?

I was disappointed with the movie, as well. I didn't read the book prior to that - yet I was just as bored as my friends, who themselves were fans.

The ending was pretty weak too. Maybe we can expect more from a sequel...?
Oh, and the ice bears; they weren't as cool as I had imagined; with all those hype about them =P

Oh yeah, I heard about that. I know it's tough to fit an entire novel into two hours of filmreel, but they could certainly have handled it better than that.

Is Bolanger (Gah forget the spelling) included? And can someone put a spoiler of where it ends? I am shocked it doesn't finish with the pathway opening.

It ends after the battle at Bolvangar.

I agree with despain.

I went and saw it a few days ago and had mixed feelings about it...

I liked the actors, they were all good and played the parts well.  There were a few details that they switched to make them easier to understand.

I really didn't like the ending either!

It just ended at the wrong time!

It should of continued for another 15 minutes!  That would of finished the whole thing properely!

They did the same thing with lord of the rings (for those of you who are familiar with the book)
The Two Towers book ends with the battle with frodo and shelob (the big spider) and in the movie it is way off...

I guess that isnt quite as bad as The golden compasses ending...

I liked the fact that everything was steampunked though, I like that style, and I think it fit the movie pretty well ^_^

Here's my two cents... I am a Christian and I do sympathize with the many of you consider Christians to be hypocritical... The plain truth is, much of them are. They give the rest of us a bad name, and it drives me insane. But besides that, I did go see the movie and I am currently reading the books. Honestly, I don't think anyone (Christians especially) should form any opinion until they have read the book themselves. After reading them a person should be entitled to give a good (note I say good) argument for why or why not they think it is good or bad. There's my two cents. Anyone with beef or questions pm me.

It wasn't just the end that was abysmal -- the entire movie was.

All that extra garbage about the Magisterium they added in...geez, what a waste. They could have cut all those bits and had enough film left over to include the proper ending AND actually spend some TIME on each scene.

It was painful, really. My friends and I were playing a game after the movie in which we had to sum it up in five sentences. Doing so was frighteningly easy.

They leapt from scene to scene so quickly that it made me want to ralph from the motion sickness. There were a few bright bits in the movie -- that girl they cast as Lyra was a killer, and who can say no to armoured bears fighting one another? -- but otherwise, it was mostly garbage. I was really, really horrified by what they did to it, and I really hope they don't run Subtle Knife and Amber Spyglass through the same bladed washing machine as they did to the first book.

Agonizing, really.

Book > Movie x Infinity. The only good bits were the fact that Daniel Craig was in it AND had facial hair(OMG). I like the fight scene at the end(those pesky Russians), the others sucked but that was OK. The story hung together alright, but it could've been better.
Daniel Craig should've played everyone, though. It'd be cool.

The fact that Daniel Craig was in the movie really threw me off. I had just seen Casino Royale (which sucked a fair bit in its own right) a few weeks before, and all of the Golden Compass scenes that Daneil Craig was in sent me into spirals of "OMG JAMES BOND".

I also couldn't see Kidman as Mrs. Coulter; I just saw her as Nicole Kidman. She's been in too many movies to shed the skin of the person she actually is and fit properly into the part of her character.

Don't know much about it, but I hear basically they kill Jesus..and if that was true..then I am not interested.

Keep in mind I am basing on what I have heard..I don't really know much about it..
