Ghost Shards: The Stonesinger

Yeah, Ghost Shards are very important to the storyline, and the image is what a Ghost Shard technically looks like. They all had a droplet thing. ^^

You'd have to take the portrait thing with Star - he created them. XD I don't agree with the small neck, big head myself, but eh. Can't change what he likes.

It's a she - Aelina is female after all. XD

Also, someone on RMN got bored and made this for us:

Now some words...

I don't know about my fiance, but my motivation is running low. I'm feeling... dis-heartened about working on Ghost Shards. Maybe it's the fact that I feel useless in its production, or I'm getting frustrated over little things. I don't know. We told ourselves we would not stop working on the game until we at least get a demo out and no one likes it. XD

I keep asking myself if this is worth it. I have a lovely backlog of stories in my brain that I would love to work on, but Ghost Shards - according to my fiance - must take priority. Maybe the interest is dying for me because I want to write about something new already without giving this a chance. This is what, my 4th game that I've worked on?

I never completed anything in my life. Perhaps I should start now, or perhaps this isn't for me...
 
I think the game's turning out nice, and if you've never finished anything then now is the perfect time to break a bad habit. Even when my motivations low, I find scheduling myself to work on something every night keeps me focused. Feeling useless though sounds like an issue you need to work out with your boyfriend. Is he hogging creative control?

Also who drew the new illustration? It looks better than the other ones. I think its that the arms look more realistic, and the 3/4 pose is more interesting than the straight on shots.
 
My fiance draws everything for the game, so he drew that one. It won't be used in game, though - it was just for fun. We're using straight-on shots because we're taking inspiration from the Tales of series with our battle systems and such.

It's not that he's hogging anything, it's that I'm not useful at anything. I can't program, I can't come up with names for equipment, my art is poor, my writing is poor, etc. I just have no use. /shrug

Aww. Now you just sound down on yourself, don't you know that you are your own worse judge? :)
Anyway forget about what you think you're good at, what part of game making do you enjoy doing? That's the thing to focus on until you can pick up your drive again.

UPDATES (I think)

ATTRIBUTES
Base Stats:

Hit Points [HP] - Measures the character's life.
Mana Points [MP] - Measures the character's ability to use moves and magic.
Strength [STR] - Measures the character's physical damage and most of their weapon skills.
Defense [DEF] - Measures how much physical damage character can take. Affects Narie's "Shield Crash" ability.
Intelligence [INT] - Measures character's elemental magic damage, and how much damage they take from such magic.
Willpower [WIL] - Measures character's resistance against status effects. Also Affects character's healing abilities.
Agility [AGI] - Simply measures character's dodging ability.
Dexterity [DEX] - Measures character's accuracy and their critical hit rate. Also affects Kyran's "Steal" ability, and all ranged skills.

Hidden Stats:

Attack - The base damage for a weapon.
Hate - Measures how often an enemy will target character. Using healing abilities increases hate, while certain equipment negates this attribute.
Movement Speed - How fast the character can move across the battlefield. Equipment can affect this attribute.
Focus - Effects the character's move interruption. Equipment can affect this attribute.

THE BATTLE SYSTEM
My fiance has been working greatly on the gameplay aspects of Ghost Shards. While there isn't a menu for it, tactics can technically be set to your AI teammates. He tells me that in about three weeks, there should be a playable battle system demo for people to try. I am excited about that.

CUT-SCENES
I've been thinking a lot about this aspect of the game. How can we make 2D cut-scenes interesting? Voice acting? Using our protraits differently? Use pictures to show the scene? I'm afraid of people not liking to read text box, after text box, after text box. If anyone has any ideas, please do share. ^^

CONCLUSION
This is not much, but it's what we've been working on. Sorry, there are not fun pictures this time. :<

Hey Strawberry, was reading your recent posts about your decline in motivation because you feel like you can't contribute.

You know what? Team management in itself is a massive contribution. This game from what I see is being worked on by multiple people, not just a solo team. Whenever a project involves more than one or two people, someone will need to start putting in the dedication to just manage the team, make sure everyone knows the same thing, be the news station of your game and know every info inside out. You are the go-to person for outsiders to ask questions to, and you are the go-to person for your team to ask about the progress on the rest of the game that they don't pay attention to.

Like Daria said, may be it's time to start breaking the cycle of not finishing something, and at least get this to a playable demo!

Thank you for you kind words. Actually, ever since I've added you and several others to the team, I feel my motivation has gone up. And you're right. I am the go-to person for this game. I know everything about it and I'm the one who manages everything about it. I guess you could say, I'm the main girl to go to for this game. It's my baby. :D

I will make this into a demo, and we will make it happen! :D
 
Another thought to consider too is that, you have the entire world ( of Xale) at your disposal. It's as big as you want it to be. If you find yourself giving in to new story ideas, integrate it into the current world! Make a side quest out of it, a side story, a background info to something particular, or you never know, it might just fit into the main story as a shocking plot device!

Nothing is final when people don't know it yet, so there are opportunities to flesh out things. Normally a world is going to be a big place. Naturally there are going to be more things happening than just Aelina's quest. Adding extra stories to the world will greatly contributes to the detail of the environment.

Hey I've actually got a slight update. Music! We've recruited a composer! YAY! I'm so excited!! Anyhoo. He said he might only be able to do 10 songs, though - so hopefully he can do all the demo music before he has to go.
