Genesis Saga

I must say it's going to be pretty hard not considering this is the longest post I've ever written. although this looks very grim it teaches a good lesson......you can't change destiny.....only prolouge it....or maybe you were meant to alter it in the first place? But I have a stumper for my readers....if the hero is prepared to travel back in time to right some wrongs.....doesn't that mean he already failed? Think about it, if he suceeded he wouldn't be prepared to go back in time to change the past!!! I plan to have someone point this out as a joke ingame...but it is a very serious matter

Well I've seen this done before and it may work extremely well for your game, but it challanges my beliefs. Not being religious I strongly believe we make our own destiny. Our own choices shape our lives. You can't wait around for some higher force to make things better. Our own descisions decide what happens, not someone elses grand sceme.

However maybe you are going down the path where what I said is true, but it is impossible to change what you have already done. You can only change the future.

About the hero having to go back, and thus having already failed, I disagree with that a little as well. Everyone makes mistakes. The game would be boring if the hero never made one. The last boss would be unbeatable if he never made one. See where I'm coming from?

I don't mean to change your views, opinions or plans. I am just voicing my own.

Ahhh time paradoxes, how fun^^ I hope you've read up on a few popular theories, not all say that "predistination" is what happens. Some go as far as saying when you change something in the past, the timeline branches. One timeline stays the same, whilst the other is what you might have changed. Creating parellel or alternate histories (something I'm using myself)

Another thing to look even futher in, as it seems you are starting there, is butterfly effect where some belive even the smallest change has a great impact. So like if you went to the 3rd century and sneezed after having a cold of some sort you'd kill half of the planet because of the population at that time might have not had a defense in their immune system. Of course that'd put a chink in your predistination message, unless we move it up a bit earlier in time...and it was the spanish flu you ended up causing.

Now all those theories aren't anything I neccessarily believe but I do like looking at the different ones and seeing what kind of theories are out there.
and since they are just that, theories, you have a lot of free space to work with.
Some things you could research a little bit about to make the realm of your science fiction well...science-y,
-causality
-string theory (always fun)
-wormholes
-predistination paradox itself, since you are using it in your game^^

Some fun books to look through are;
A Brief History of Time and the Universe in a Nutshell (I'm not a math person at ALL so I was happy that I actually could understand a lot of the mechanics behind the theories by reading these) I <3 Steven Hawking!

anycase those are just some suggestions, who knows you might have already looked them up or might even find inspiration...

Well I thought I was ready to take this on after playing Timesplitters XD, and reading a little on the massive wikipedia page on it I also studied Chrono Trigger, so I could stay as far away from it as humanely possible......Now I don't want my game to be as dark as all those you mentioned......but it will have some dark times, but good times as well

Well some research is better than none. At least you've researched something.

erm...only 1 was a dark scenario, the accidently killing off half of earth's population. The other was just a split in parellel history. I was kinda going off the examples you had in your long post. You know, sister losing her legs, letting best friend die in a fire? Isn't that kinda dark? ^^; And predistination is heavy and can be dark subject matter, being handed a situation and not being able to change or choose for yourself what you can do can cause some people to go insane. Look at The Time Machine ,adaptation of H.G. Wells, the most recent movie

EDIT(2002) with guy pierce, (just realized just how many time machine movies there are >.<)

knowing that he cannot save the one he loves does cause him to go through emotional rollercoasters and that if he did he wouldn't have invented a time machine in the first place to go save her. Ahhh again the paradoxes. I guess since you are dealing with the realm of science and physics for some people who may know a little about it, it can be hard to dismiss some sort of science based explination. Unless it's time travel by magic, but even then some might want some type of attempt at a logical explination. Of course I can be wrong ^^; that's just me.

I kinda like the history splitting.....kinda reminds me of Trunks in DBZ when he saved the future....of course thinking of that makes me think of Akira Toriyama, who also did the art for Chrono Trigger!!!! Which I must stay away from.....about the magic....that is the LAST thing on my mind, I've been looking for alternatives to magic since like......ever! I don't really, really, really plan to get into detail about time traveling, but there will definitely be a cynic, telling the hero he has already failed....and there's no point in going back b\c you can't change fate......of course the hero will deny this and lash out......my message is that....maybe...just...possibly fate can be changed.....and this will chronicle the journey of the heros who tried and possibly suceeded with this....Whew that speech took about 9999 damage....time to go laydown....wait 9999....NO I will not use FF algorithims to voice my tiredness!

My side Project "A Ghost Within Time" deals with going in time, to change the past for a good reason, to prevent a certain evil from being brought back into the present day world that these humans live in. It also incorporates EVP aka Whitenoise, to begin the entrance of the evil to start spreading, then it spreads out to become paranormal ghostly activities, nothing harmful... yet... but enough to cause scares and nervous people... so bad that a special organization of ghost hunters and detectives goes out in search of how to stop the paranormal activities... thus coming across these recordings, which have the EVP... each tape has a new part to add to the story and more for the characters to find out and explore... going into not only the past, the present, the future at the end, but also the darker side of the world, an invisible world full of gloom and evil throughout... aka a "Void Rift" where anything and everything bad could and does happen.

That is why I loved my project so much, it provided a deep storyline, over 20+ quests and subquests, lots of armor, big battles, unique characters, and a good usage of voice overs... let alone it is a horror/RPG... The entire title song is EVP, it even sends shivers down my spine when I listen to it sometimes.

If your game uses time to a huge extent, this project will go far, and be very unique... not many people take note of how cool time concepts can be, and usually pass them over for some dude with a big sword and some stupid destiny to stop the world from machines, aliens, and some weird organization full of super soldiers.

big sword and some stupid destiny to stop the world from machines, aliens, and some weird organization full of super soldiers.
Lol sounds like a Time Splitters remake almost...I plan to stay as far away from time games as possible....so don't worry....although the hero does dual wield swords...

Ok, I finally had the time to look at your project and I have to say I was quite confused in the beginning@_@
Just had to understand the thing with the different time periods/frames, but when I got that I liked the concept of the time change and I'm curious how the dinosaurs and hover cars will look like, because the screenshots didn't show the futuristic atmosphere. The story seemed a bit cliche but I think you'll use that as an advantage...
I really have to say it seems promising:thumb:

One thing I guess I still didn't get, it takes place on Earth, but in an alternate universe 50 years from now, is that right? The setting information confused me a little bit....

Well it's like 2025 really, but what I meant when I said that is that it;s not the earth with America, And Japan and such....and as for those atrocious screens, I will have them taken to the back and shot immediately, our tileset maker just got back from vacation and he's ready to-well.....Tileset Create XD
well cliche? How so? what do you mean? I thought I was doing a pretty good job of staying away from cliche.....

Ah, I see. That's clear then:D

Sounds good. I'm awaiting it.

Actually it is very inventive, but the fact that Ty and Flain are trying to acquire the Genesis Diamond, make it sound a bit cliche, don't you think?
The search for a jewel-thingy has been used a lot(cf. "crystals" or "emeralds"->Sonic!!!). That was basically the point I meant, while I have to add that using cliches isn't bad.
Certain cliches should be implemented or are unavoidable....
The setting and features etc. will probably compensate this fact, depending on how big the influence of the diamond on the course of the story is.

Actually Flain has met his end similar to to Ol Yeller....he was just weird, and a redundant character.
As for the Genesis Diamond, actually there 's a twist to it's power...but I was staying away from cliche by just using diamond , something abit more realistic crystals and emeralds.
It is now that I update with a rough draft of Tyson's full backstory, I seem kind of a lazy 2 line poster, but check my storywriting, which could be better...
Rain pelted the King household, as the mysterious hooded man rushed inside,
he was soaked to the bone but seemed to take no notice as he removed his hood and beckoned to the lady of the house, Mrs.King.
"Bell...how are you, and how did it go!?" She soothed his excitement by placing a small bundle in his arms.
The baby looked into the mans' face, then looked quickly away as if ashamed or something. "Ha, I know I'm not the prettiest thing."
"Locke really you'll never get married with that attitude." Bell gave her brother a quick peck on the cheek, then headed into the kitchen. "Aren't you hungry big brother, We had a big dinner today." Locke nodded his head and sat down in a chair in the dining room, as he continued to study the prize held in his arms. The baby had fallen asleep, unaware of who this mysterious man, but still sleeping, indicating he did not care.
"Where's Tyson?" The question he always asked when he came to visit, and his sister, like always gave him the same answer...
"He's out." And like usual this deeply angered Locke.
"Out, the man is out everyday messing around with those hussies-
"Please Locke."
"Don't you please me, that man needs to be taught how to treat a woman for real, why do you even put up with him!?" And with that the baby awoke with a scream, Mrs.King scooped him up from Locke's arms and lulled him back to sleep.
"Tyson is nicer than you think, he loves me, now please let the baby sleep."
"Psh kid got a name?" Locke propped his feet up, to show his attitude was still very much intact.
"Yes it's- His sister looked down for a second, then looked up again, "Tyson King J..junior." As expected Locke went into a rage.
"You named that boy after that ass!?" His anger quickly evaporated, for his sister lowered her head and begin softly crying."Bell I didn't mean to." Bell looked up and smiled, sadly.
"No no it's not that, it's just I have...no way of paying the lights...he didn't give me any money." Locke studied his sister than said.,
"How much do you need?" His sister met him eye to eye.
"I don't need anything, but I do want a favor..." She moved over to the window and looked out into the stormy night. "I want you...to...keep Tyson for me...just until I get on my feet, can you do that for me?" Locke looked over at the sleeping kid, for she had laid him down on the couch.
"Oh no, I'm sorry I can't do that, a kid in my house, Bonnie would go crazy!?" He was of course referring to his girlfriend of 2 years.
"Please Locke, I don't want him to live this life...I just need you to keep him until I get up enough money to leave Tyson, please." Locke felt trapped now, an angry sister or an angry soon to be wife... he chose the later.
"I guess I can keep for a couple of weeks..." His sister jumped on him, hugging him tightly, "That'd be great brother, in fact just give me 2 weeks and I'll be at your house in Pyra to pick him up."
Sadly 18 years later Tyson rushed downstairs to join his uncle for breakfast.

Good then, unexpected twists are always good.

Yes, it fits your environment better than the other ones.

The short story is very nicely written.
You already got me interested, because of questions you left open(what happened to Tyson Jn. Jn.? etc...) When this is just the draft, I'm sure the final short story will be good:yes:

really!? I thought that story had to be taken care of *Reaches for a cellphone and dials a number* Cancel the operation...standby for further orders...
