Favorite anime(s)?

Some really good series that are airing in Japan right now:
Toward the Terra - Recommended for any science-fiction fan. It starts out quiet, but it's turning into an epic roller-coaster ride right now.
Mononoke - If you like thrillers, you really should try out this collection of short stories.
Dennou Coil - This series comes with a really original setting, when it revolves around the adventures of a bunch of children and a cyber-world that exists right on top of the real one. It's got a huge amount of imagination.
Saiunkoku Monogatari - A historical series, combining both romance and politics.
Bokura no - The premise is basically that twelve children are framed into piloting a huge mecha, to defeat the earth from enemies. A rather clich? premise, though plot twists along the way turn this into a really creepy tragedy.

I think Sailor Moon is great, Rataime, haha. No seriously though the final three seasons aren't too bad.The antagonists are much more developed, in my opinion. I'm watching the final season now, actually. I never bothered watching all the filler episodes, I skipped right to the final few before. I regret it though, most of the episodes in Sailor Stars are actually relevant, and not just useless fillers.

Honestly, I've given anime a fair try, and can't say I like much of it. However, I must admit that "Last Exile" is definitely one of my favorite things to watch; I've seen it three times now, and can say it is without my favorite anime ever. Waaay better than Ghost in the Shell, Abenobashi, or Paranoia Agent, anyways.

Ah! Last Exile was one of the first animes that I bought the DVDs for. By far one of my favorites, although I don't think I could sit through the series again. Watching it once was fine for me. Oh, Dio.

A friend of mine also recommended a little gem-of-a-show called Cutey Honey. It first aired in japan in the 70's, and eventually died before it was (almost) revived in '94, with eight episodes (originally twelve) that had maybe the best voice dubbing ever. I was hesitant to try the dubbed version after the SM, but it still had all the beauty anime carries with it.

Try Cutey Honey. She doesn't get enough love here in America.(Thanks Dawn for this great recommendation!)

Cutey Honey is so-so. The only interesting point is that the live-action film was orchestrated by Hideaki Anno (the guy behind Evangelion/Gunbuster/Nadia)

Live... action...? O_o Oookay.... you're kidding, right? Gonna have to check the store to see about that one... I saw the anime trailers and thought... 'this is just too goofy.' And this coming from a guy who has Slayers, Tenchi Muyo and Project A-Ko.

Gotta agree with you all on Last Exile. Excellent music, wonderful artwork, at least 'four' interwoven story arcs going at the same time. The flying sequences herald back to the pre-jet era while the battleship sequences... man...

Personally, Live action anything for me sucks. It always does a bad job at capturing the magic that made the show great in the first place, and often times its just something that would only be amusing if you watched it blitzed out of your mind.

I did watch a fandub of the Cutey Honey live action (just the first 15 minutes), and the voice acting was hilarious. I imagined the subtitled version would be pretty bad though.

Trigun was awesome! Yay. The manga was better. How is that possible?

Cased Closed (aka Detective Conan) was great

Hellsing was pretty darn good!

Full Metal Alchemist YAY! Well the japanese version. The american dub raped it.

Dubs screw over every anime, believe me. Atleast the good ones.
Well Dragonball is an exception. Have you ever heard japanese Goku voice? Even portuguese dub makes a better job!

Gankutsuou also has a nice dub. Especially for the Count. I would watch the entire thing in english, even if all the other voices completely sucked, just for that voice for the Count. It's perfect. Fortunatly, only a few of the voices in it suck.

I like Elfen Lied, Fate/Stay Night, Love Hina, He is My Master, Mahoromatic and a few more that I can't remember off the top of my head xD':|

New Cutey honey had an incredible dub! The series creator, Go Nagai, hand picked the voice dub for honey, and all the other characters just rocked in their positions! The dub was definitely better then original, as far as I'm concerned.

If I find a clip of the dubbed show, you will be amazed at how well the dubbing is. Nothing is left out, nothing is edited, and all the greatness of the show is in tack!

I recently finished Shakugan no Shana. It was pretty good, I almost had a tear around the end.

Another good one is Kanon, at least the 2006 version. You'll probably end up crying at some of the plot (i did), so I liked that. You just really get into it and can connect to the characters.
