Ethereal Dreams

I had it pointier at one point..but it looked kinda strange for some reason. Thanks though. Maybe I'll make other boats pointy in the future, but this guy just looks better a little flat.

Interesting that you say that. When I suggested to make the boat pointy it was to be a little more realistic, being that I've never seen a skiff that has a curved front.

While it's true that real boats are mostly pointy for water-resistance reasons, that boat sorta reminds me of a raft. Which would probably work too. I think the best choice would be whatever that looks better with its purpose here - which is with the guy sitting on it.

I actually changed the in town water up a bit. *goes to dig up a screenshot* But I do still use this water in a lot of places. I really see what you mean. I'll play with it some, but not right away. Have a lot of stuff to do for the weekend. @.@

Yeup.

And like I said, we're all working hard to get everything ready for the demo still. This weekend (when we release the demo at the convention where I'm selling art) is slowly creeeeeping up on me and really testing my stress levels. lol

Thanks for the comments on the boat. Like the water, I'm not going to be playing with it for a while, if I ever so choose to play with it.

Comparing the two, this new version has a strong ocean-beach feel to it. Feels a lot smoother, as I do agree that the older version has an obvious tile-square visual. The underwater shadows for the boat adds a nice touch, by the way. :)

This game looks really promising! I've never played an rpg maker game with that style of charactersets so this will be refreshing. I'm downloading right now.

Edit: OMFG HOW CUTE!!! This game is so differently refreshing! Like a ham and pineapple pizza! The storyline is amazing, the art is good, the characters and their graphics are superb. Great job, I'm jealous. I can see you put alot of work into this. It shows! Great job, great job.

BTW: how did your project get so many posts?! I'm really impressed. *admires*

Being compared to Hawaiian Pizza! xD Awesome. Thank you very much Itachi-Hime! I'm glad you enjoyed the demo and the graphics so much.

As for comments, we started out slow too. A good way to bring in people is, with a link quickly available in your sig (which you have), comment on other projects, fill in random resource requests or answer random questions, people will see your help and your image and click, be at your project. To check out the one that just helped or commented on them.
Most importantly, don't get discouraged. It'll always take a while to build up popularity for your game.

In other news! At the anime convention where I was selling art these past weekend, Racheal and I handed out....10-13 copies of our 2.0 demo. I still want to say late August to mid September for the online version of these demo, which will be highly polished compared to the hard copy release. (since it's deadline sneaked up on us all...)

The big bad deadline that was last weekends convention has passed, and myself and Maki have been more motivated and productive this week then we've been in awhile. I'm not quite sure how that works....

Anyways.. two screenshots for you guys today.

Maki's been working on the tileset for the next dungeon, which might or might not be included in 2.0. Pretty much, we're waiting on a few essential resources, (Music, Scripts), and she wanted to work on tilesetting this place. So if we get it done before 2.0 is polished, it might just get included.

This map was just thrown together by Maki to show the tileset. It's not an actual map that will be in the game.

I've finally got my butt back into scripting mode, and have more or less finished up the "campfires" feature. It's kinda half scripted/half evented. It was fun to make. Maki always likes the scripting presents I give her, so she started on the background and "art sprites" right away.

Currently the flame is animated, but the charaters are not. They will be in the future though.

Good stuff. :) That camp fire thing reminds me of flash games.

It definitely looks like something developed in flash, though I don't think it was. I love how the development is going for this game. Keep up the good work! :thumb:

Thanks Ratty and Reives.
The campfire image is a panorama made in photoshop and the characters are sprites made in photoshop. n.n No flash involved. But I do sorta see where the flash comment is coming from.

@LightandMagic: Thanks very much. That's good to hear.

@Reives: What are we up to...hmmm...working hard on getting 2.0 ready for Beta testing. Which we'll soon be asking about here. n.n But not yet, there's just some small touch ups we need to do first.

I think the picture says it all! Ethereal Dreams has officially reached one year. Not on this site, but the original concepts and characters were designed over MSN by the original four of Dragonfly one year ago.

We'd like to thank everyone who's supported us and expressed interest throughout the games development thus far!

And also, feeling generous, a bonus treat. Just to show that 2.0 is nearing completion, here's most (not all) of the faced characters in the upcoming demo. No, they are not all playable...just all named. ^^

Hopefully 2.0 will be out this September, we're just waiting on some music, sprites and a script before we're good to go. (Oh, and rounds upon rounds of testing ;) )

Hay, let me be the first to say happy one-year anniversary!! :) Love the drawings as always (wish I got a tablet :<).

And wow, I see that you guys have a quite complete set of character faces done. Very nice stuff, definitely looking pro.

One of the things I love about this is the unique style, when I look at any one of those faces it instantly gives off a Ethereal Dreams impression. :)

Happy one year anniversary indeed! I don't think I've actually replied to this thread before, but I guess now is a good time to start. I played the first demo, and I loved it... so I can't wait to play the second. Seeing what you guys are doing gives me quite a bit of inspiration, since the game I'm working on at the moment also has all original graphics too. Well, anyway, good luck on finishing up the second demo!

'appy 1st birfday! err anniversary!

Too be frank this is one of the few project threads I keep having to check out when I see new posts. I keep thinking that perhaps that 2nd demo had a quick release or some such heh - not trying to drop a hint to hurry up, or nothing, just showing that you've got me more interested than just about all other projects.
From that first demo I'm just nicely into the characters and style.

Good luck with it.

@Reives: I'm amazed that my coloring style has stayed some-what consistent over the past year. All the same, when we re-did Rya's battler, it became apparent that my style had indeed changed since I did those (waay waay back.... back in month 1 or 2) Plus, the old battlers were bugging Maks. They've been done for a week or 2, but I realized I had never shared. Also, we finished it up so that the weapons change depending on what you have equipped.

@Arcanum: It's always wonderful to hear we're an inspiration!

@60.25: Really, this would have been the perfect day to release 2.0, but we're not quite on the ball like that (we only remembered it was the anniversary a few days ago) The next demo is perfectly playable and all (has been for around a month?), but we just don't want to rush it. We want to make sure everything is the way we want it before we release it.

Happy first anniversary!

The battlers that were redone look a lot less awkward, I was always wondering why Ryaena was kind of stretched across the screen, good job. I have to say that I just finished your last demo a little while ago, and although it was short, I was definitely interested in the characters/story. The town was a bit boring, as were the NPC interactions, but you managed to put something good together, so y'know, good job.

I can't wait for the next demo, blablabla.

I like those new facesets by the way, very cutez.
