Ethereal Dreams

Glad you enjoyed it ^_^ We do pride ourselves in our characters and our art.

As far as a puzzle, Fungal Forest is kind of a... tutorial, get used to the game...type level. So we want to keep it nice and simple. We do have a puzzle planned for the next level, as well as many future levels.

I finally tried this game today and finished the Demo. The only thing that bothers me is that Darin does less damage than Ryaena. Even with Water Sword, Darin should be stronger than Ryaena just to show Character like he can protect her for the moment. "unless hungover does somethingO_o "

oh BTW love the pop up on the world map.

Yeah, Hungover is reducing all of his stats, including attack. Which would be why Rya is doing more damaged. The idea is that he's supposed to be kinda useless when hungover, thus the whole quest for the cure ^_^. Still something to play with though.

wow... play that game huh... nice artwork going through this game... the amount of games getting incredible artwork now is going up around here... heh... i'd like to play a complete copy... i might learn something... :)

Thanks XD glad you like the artwork.
It's going to be a long while before a complete version is done...That's the biggest bane of customizing things. n.n'

I like the game, it's quirky! Darin is the last person you'd expect to be a father, but the dynamic seems to work. I wonder if we will find out why Eya was adopted.

I wasn't fond of the button-mash fest (or the music, but that is just me) that was the forest, but it wasn't annoying. I loved the how that scene where Darin gets his dragon taken away from him played out though. The drawings were hilarious and they definitely fit.

All in all, I found this amusing to play though. I'm still not quite sold on this talents business but I imagine I'll get a hang of it once we see a full game.

Oh, and I'd like to say, Team Power! Thanks for proving that going at this alone isn't the only way games can be made in this community. :D

Oh yes, s'posed to drop a comment eh? (played the demo like a week ago)

First off, and I don't care how much people say this, kudo to you for making so many custom graphics. It's a hell of a job, it has to be appreciated you put in so much effort.

Another thing I'd like to compliment is how the demo was not repeating what was being said in the project topic. You always get like, an intro on the top of the post, you download the demo, press new game, and you get the same intro. Yet, the post didn't interfere with the demo, nor the other way around thus worth a praise.

The explanations were done nicely (short), especially because the player is given a choice whether to listen or not (replay value). What I dislike however, is that you choose every character's reactions in these. Limits their personalities. It's nice to have freedom, but it shouldn't let other elements go to the waste, so beware of that.

Well, being relatively bored of the usual battle system I can't say those were too great, so do make sure you get a good number of skills fast, as you can't rely on original graphics here. Tactics rely on skills a lot, a fight-heal-fight-heal battle is boring. The auto-attack option is ok, but you're still bothered with having to watch the scene. So it might be a good idea to simply skip the scenes and show the results right away.

Another thing is that so far, the plot is shallow, very, very shallow. Both what was featured in the demo, and what has been shown in the topic. It's good if you expand on this while not wanting to show it in the topic, but it's supposed to interest people in here. No doubt you're aware especially RPG's tend to rely on story, and even though a game's story tends be "less", as you can't measure yourself with the big companies in graphics and systems, story tends to be of insane value in amateur games.

I mean, I've all seen it before, in slightly different compositions. The protoganists so far are nice (though I detest the "classic fantasy-races", first to spit elf, dwarf, orc or DnD at me shall be murdered this instance), but they can't carry a plotline in my opinion. With a few good changes in construction and perspective it should work but I certainly don't think you should be going for that. I guess I'll have to wait and see what has been planned.

Alltogether it's pretty nice and surely has potential. Wonder what you'll do with it.

Indeed you will. And a whole lot more about Ryaena in general too.

I could never imagine doing all these graphics by myself. It's hectic enough with the work loads we do have. :s

Glad you liked the demo. ^_^ We hope the game continues to please as it gets further along and the REAL plot actually starts.

I understand what you're saying, but getting the demo to skip by only giving you the options for Darin would be tough. Maybe we'll have to think on that.

Maybe I'm the only person in the world who likes the default battle system. n.n' Anyway, there will be more skills, but the fact that we got the skill system WORKING for the demo was a joy itself. There are also other things in store for battle system (hoping that we get the scripting figured out for it) and also, the Tactics menu will allow you to change Auto into more than just 'everyone attack something random.'
As for just showing the results after auto, would this still be a better idea if auto later let you cast spells or techniques and such?

True true...but the demo hardly gets into the story of the game later on. It's got a slow start, but does pick up. The story itself is long enough to have a summary that's divided into two with roughly 35 acts each. But, we can't lose that slow beginning, because it's an important part of the characterization. And ultimately, the character's development drive this story later.
As for the summary in the post...I'm always afraid of spoiling things if I say more. n.n' I've got a bad habit of that. And no one else in the team seems to want to try to write it.

I definetly agree. Actually, I prefer story and characters over graphics.

Well...hopefully a DragonRider, a Centaur, and a Meenian don't count as standard fantasy RPG staple. But, there will be elves and things later.....It's a fantasy world after all.
Thanks for playing our demo, and we'll continue to try to think of ways to make the summary a little more appealing. I hope that we'll soon be able to prove to everyone that the story is coming. :) And hopefully everyone will think it was worth the wait that is the intro.

We've kinda got sidetracked a bit, with working on a website for the game (which should open soon, just waiting on a couple things) but we have been making some mostly artistic progress. So, we present you with a couple screenshots.

Posted it before, but now we've played with the sprites a bit. Sadly, hard to show Darin merrily drinking in a screenshot ^^; Also have a new face picture for Darin's armorless sprite. Still need to add some animation for the bartender, Horis.

Added a bit to the forest tile set. Also gave Darin his armor finally.

We've finally got a layout we're happy with for the prision, so progress is starting to move faster.

Sorry about the late response, Makio had replied once before, but then it got eaten :\

We pretty much got the second offer as we were preparing to PM you, so the timing worked out nicely and we just kinda went with it ^^; Plus, they were pretty bored, and I know you seem pretty busy. We greatly appreciated the offer though!

Sorry for the lack of updates guys. Still chipping away at the graphics needed for the next demo (Tilesets, Sprites, Enemy Battlers, etc). For now, revamped the characters and screenshot sections of the topic a little bit. As well, we now have a Site and Forum open! You can find the site [Here] and the Forum [Here]
-----Second in Command,
Racheal-----
As well, here's a preview of some upcoming enemies

Started working on the pictures for the conversations that are slightly more imoportant than others. I only have a handful for Rya done, and none for anyone else. Eitherway, here's some screenshots.

Any feedback would be awesome.

In other news, got 2/3 guard sprites done, so the next dungeon should be underway soon. Hopefully it all goes smoothly.

And thanks TCoFA. n.n glad you like the bandit battler!

Not to be rude or anything but,... the faces are a little messed up including Rya's..The sprites, and music are good. Just that the faces are bad. Body is good too.:D

@Showkaizer: Thanks!! (and double thanks for the help in the screenshot thread. Hopefully the next demo will have improved perspective) Glad you enjoyed it and are looking forward to more. n.n

@threesword: Rather than just saying that they're messed or bad....can you tell me in what way? @.@

@ShowKaizer: I'm glad you enjoyed it ^^ Hope we don't disappoint.

@threesword: I will agree with Rya's face picture not being the best (we already have plans for a new one) but I thought the others were fine. (In paticular, Phylips was my favorite) And if it's the pointy chins that bug you, don't expect those to change any time soon. That's a style quirk of Makios. (And the current music is just temporary and will be changing in the next demo ^^)
