Forum changes and template website.

Good morning, community of RMXP.org. I have a big one for you today.

Deletion of the Recruitment and Classifieds subforum.

Yes, you read that right. Within the next couple of weeks, the Recruitment and Classifieds board will no longer be a part of RMXP.org.

Shortly it will be archived as a read-only board, and after some time in that it will be archived as a hidden board only visible by the staff. The board is too large with too much history to simply be deleted, but once the board becomes hidden from regular users, the staff has no obligation to dig through it for you. In other words, this is your warning. If you have anything within the Recruitment and Classifieds subforum that you want to keep, now would be the time to back it up. We will not be responsible for any lost posts or topics.

We have a number of reasons, the largest of which are as followed:
  • The subforum, in its current state, represents the kind of game-making that we do not want to encourage. In other words, the "make my game for me" mentality has become far too prevalent.
  • A good number of members used the recruitment forum as an excuse to have a second project topic; if you want someone to help in your project, simply say so in your one project topic.
  • The forum serves no purpose. Very few topics in it actually get anywhere.
  • Incredibly few topics in that forum meet the criteria set out in Jeff's rules. Moderators spend far too much time telling people to clean up their topics. Rule-breaking topics should be in the minority, not be the norm.
  • We don't like the image that the subforum gives to the RMXP.org community. The recruitment forum consistently shows members that lack creativity and motivation. This isn't what RMXP.org is about. Make some games, people! Don't ask others to make them for you!

A lot of people will be upset with this decision. Even more (hopefully) will be happy with it. We are well aware that the recruitment forum has a little "mini-community" of its own (who will likely not even see this announcement). It is our goal to force this mini-community to expand and see what else RMXP.org has to offer. Perhaps, along the way, they can grow up a little.

In other news...

Progress on the RMXP.org resources website is going nicely. This morning, in fact, I have released a mini-website that will give you a preview of whats to come. Spriters and pixel artists will be happy to make use of this resource. The previous Templates for Spriting topic listing has been replaced with a Spriting Templates website.

For more details, look at the new thread here.

That was a big one. Have fun, boys and girls.

Wow, I think I just came twice. Now watch, as all of the people who never look anywhere but the Recruitment and Classifieds forum are stumped as to where their beloved sub-forum went. Their uber-n00b powers will destroy the entire board. I think we prepare ourselves for the worst, ladies and women. Get out hobo jackets, gloves, and skullcaps, because you'll probably be homeless at the end of this.

I like the little snippet of info at the end, "In Other News." Very subtle. I kinda agree with the whole thing, because people need to understand that RMXP is a community, not your personal work-horse >_> At least do something for yourself during the whole thing. Teamwork's root word isn't "everyone-but-me". It's "work." And everyone in a team should be contributing.

EDIT: I also like green eggs and ham.

WOO HOO!

Also we should note: If you have a private subforum, you can still recruit people in the private subforum section. YOU CANNOT DO SO UNLESS YOU HAVE A PRIVATE SUBFORUM. All the more reason to shoot the site some dough for one! :D

see I never check that section anyway. You get much further if you just use your signature to look for help because even if you're only semi-active it gets seen by LOADS more people, ie I know that sixty and ven both need(ed?) scripting types to help out, whereas only looking in that subforum in the wake of this announcement do I realise that CHRONICLES OF TWILIGHT needs a team

Nice work with the template site, awesome.

Oh and yay good riddance to the recruitment forum. A good idea for probably about 10 minutes, like when someone suggests eating 20 mars bars in one go, but in the long run... a shitty forum :)

Also take note that the Early Project Development forum is an AD FREE forum, and it will remain that way after recruitment closes.  Project Discussion is your hype and advertise section of the project forum.  EPD is for serious feedback on concept, gameplay, and story materials ONLY.

Ah, finally. It always seemed like only a handful of topics actually got some people to work together as a team. I never really went there anyway.

Good riddance!

(Commander)Wyatt :\
You disappoint me.  What do you mean by "any more"?  There's never been a time where these things were truly actively read - and you know better than that mister >:\  That's like saying people will pay attention to rules and not perform in a shitty behavio--oh... tsk, tsk.  You did say that too :(

I have nothing against the closing of the subforum. Although, I have a thing to point out.

I let great terror block my topic freely as I did not wanted my project to be a part of "Do My Project For Me". Terror thought I needed to have everything as I wanted it to be, everything planned and delined, but that would be a "make my project". I wasn't sure of some things I could use for my game, so I wanted a team before we decided everything. As he gave me 24 hours to say everything I needed, when I needed a team to decide that, I told him to block away.

See here, not critiscising you Terror, it's just that I wanted to prevent that, and hae my project as most original and evolved it could be, by putting about 5 minds working together, instead of just mind pissing around the other's heads.

Well, I won't actually be sad or anything. That was probably the part I less visited of the comunity, so...

Terror thought I needed to have everything as I wanted it to be, everything planned and delined,

No I didn't think, the rules did: http://rmxp.org/forums/http://dev.rmxp. ... 10#p446710

I merely asked you to be more specific, because otherwise you are wasting people's time.  Why be specific?  A lot of people can sprite, but not everyone can sprite a dragon HK size.  It helps people looking know if they are even the right fit for your needs.  You only benefit from being that specific on your needs, why anyone would think otherwise is beyond me.  It shows you know what you're doing and where the project is heading.  But most don't know, they just have a vague game idea they've written a few paragraphs about and now they want someone to make graphics, scripts, maps, and some say write it, please.

Had the rules been followed as they were meant we would've left the board open.  But The amount of rule breaking spam on the board keeps it ignored by anyone worth knowing in the community.  Most of those folk never even post elsewhere.  We hoped the reforms would change it from utter shit, but unfortunately the type of user the forum attracts is not interested in those rules by and large.
