Wait wait wait, are you badmouthing Killswitch Engage and Slipknot ? *Passes guitar, microphone, and drumset* Do better... they're both amazing bands with more talent than you'll ever have...

Yes, because someone's inability to produce music at this level of quality means they cannot criticise anyone that can. In fact, this also means that you cannot compliment music unless you would be able to reproduce it yourself. This revelation will turn music---no, Everything Ever in the History of Always upside-down.

Everybody, stop appreciating/depreciating all subjective forms of entertainment this second.

B...b...b....bu... but who says I can't make music ?, I can play quite a few songs, so maybe I have an eency bit of an advantage over the people who criticise music and can't do jack with an instrument ?

Also, whats YOUR favourite band(s) ? :biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin:

My point was that you don't have to be the purveyor of something in order to recognise it as either good or bad; most people will agree that things such as Michelangelo's David are masterpieces, but how many of them could produce a sculpture to the same degree of quality?

Some of my favourite bands, let's see: Ayreon, Epica, After Forever, Mostly Autumn, Lana Lane, Stream of Passion, Nightwish, Threshold, Madder Mortem and To-mera.

@Jbrist
I have seriously played music for almost three years now. The instruments I use are simply my voice, and my electric guitar. I can improvise and make my own music without having to think about it. I have been asked to play in some kind of concert 3 times already. I have taken, competed, and got an A in college classes that teach students to recognize key parts of various types of music, so that we can understand what they are doing just by listening to them. I also back myself up with tons and tons of music theory and techniques. So I know how you feel, I hate it when someone criticizes music when they don't understand concepts about music.

@Holly
Exactly, people will vary in different tastes of music. Like, for example, someone who eats Italian food all of they're lives will think that Mexican food is disgusting, and vis versa. Just because you think a band sucks, doesn't mean the guy next to you will. There really isn't a superior form or genre of music, it is just peoples opinions. By the way, (as jbrist said) Who are YOU favorite bands? I would like to know. And do you play any instruments?

Edit: I have only heard one of those bands, I have heard mostly autumn and they are pretty good.

I used to be first chair clarinet, but then I quit cause it sucked and was about to get worse.

Faves: nightwish, within temptation, M.O.V.E.'s album deep calm, evanescent, nobuo uematsu(I actually like listening to his stuff), celtic woman, linkin park, some green day songs, my chem romance, and a couple of fallout boy songs.

i played clarinet for like 3 days in 5th grade. then i was like WTF IS THIS SHIT THIS IS GAY and i accidentally broke it. or maybe that piece was detachable. i dont know, i was stupid in 5th grade.

i play a mean djembe. :shades:
by 'mean', i actually mean i have no clue what i'm doing but at least i have fun with it

I played clarinet for three years straight 6-8th grade. Although my tone never improve too much after the first couple of weeks, I was first chair clarinet every year.

It sucked like hell. There were probably 5-6 teachers in total all three grades, not counting the subs. And I changed school.

i always wanted to play sax but when i was in school all I could get were the school's loaner instruments, and all they had were clarinets, and later, a bass clarinet. So I played clarinet for 1 year then switched to bass clarinet for 3. Bass Clarinet parts are easy as shit, it was just like playing the same 3 notes over and over again in the background. The hard part was playing loud enough so people could hear me well, because those motherfuckers take a LOT of lung power.

When i hit high school I didn't want to be grouped into the bandfag group anymore, so I dropped. I don't think I could even play a basic "E" now; I've forgotten everything about it. Also I'm tone deaf now ;-;

anyway this has gone off-topic, more favorites!

I played percussion all the way from 5th grade through high school. In high school, I played cymbals the first two years and bass drum the other two in marching band.

Anyways, recently I've become quite taken with a new band: I Fight Dragons because they mix chiptunes with traditional instruments, and my cousin is the lead vocalist.
