Yeah, how come Games now adays suck ballz?

The only real advantage of the previous generations was lower budgets. Most of you are probably saying "what the heck are you smoking?" when they read that, but the lower budgets gave developers much more mobility than a big-budget game.

-They had fewer people working on the projects, it became a group of friends working together instead of like a business, where you rarely even talk to the other department on the floor above you.

-They could take risks and not declare bankruptcy if it fails.

-They could go back and change things if they didn't work, or could be improved upon.

-They had all the time in the world to finish their projects.

-If a game wasn't fun they could drop the project without taking huge losses and start on something new. Nintendo was notorious for doing this, although very few people realize how many games they abandoned because they simply "couldn't find the fun".

Now of course they also had the disadvantages of having a low budget, but the biggest advantage low budget games have is heart. The more people are working on a project, the less personal it is, and the less you care. This is the biggest reason why there are so many big-budget shitty games out there today. It's very difficult to find a large group of people and have all of those people really care about what they're doing.

There's a lot more to all this than what I've said of course, but this probably the biggest factor. And I really commend the game developers that can expand their company without losing the heart that a tight-knit group of people can have.

I, too have noticed the decline in quality video games... Simply put, it seems to me that the human race is somehow loosing it's sense of style and creativity... Don't get me wrong, there have been quite a few creative things that have recently come out, but nothing I've seen recently has the potential to become a classic. It's not just video games, either... Movies nowadays are starting to get more and more unoriginal as well... Maybe it's just that the people in the entertainment industry don't care about the art of entertainment anymore, and all they see is money now and nothing else...

or maybe we haven't even reached the end of the decade so it's impossible to determine what could be called a "classic."

i guarantee you halo, mario galaxy, and half-life 2 will be referred to as "classics" 10 years from now just like everyone today refers to chrono trigger, metal gear solid, and final fantasy whatever.

What the fuck. Do you seriously not try to look for good stuff? This just seems like an immature "TV and Hollywood sux" rant.

The next gen consoles make the most consistently "good" games from any system ever.  Nearly every game that comes out is playable.  I remember when with many games I had to force myself through them, even the ones I bought  and I don't get that so much these days.

Add that to the obvious thing that the best games tend to come out near the end of a consoles cycle.

I can't speak for xbox360 games but have you played ratchet and clank TOD, Call of duty 4, Uncharted, hell even fight night on the PS3.  They are all the best games those genres have seen in my opinion and that's within a year and a bit of the console seeing daylight.

The lack of innovation has been explained over and over.  If companies take a risk the 90% of people that only play a game with a Gun in it won't buy it, it will inevitably fail, the company will go bankrupt and EA will carry on making sports games and laughing.  Blame the consumer.

I always scoff at the "no originality" bullshit that people spew.  If anything, "original games" have shot up since the turn of the century.  BACK IN MY DAY (fuck) every console game was essentially a port of an older arcade game.

Donkey Kong?  Arcade port.  Mario Bros?  Arcade port.  I could go on but I'll just stop with those two.

I don't do much gaming lately, basically stopped being any sort of serious gamer at least 3 years ago. However from the little amount of games that I "have" played, there are definitely good ones. This is a baseless claim.

Don't forget 007 Goldeneye for the N64

Man for me that game is still modern. :(

Seriously I am still amazed by a lot of N64 games. Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie will forever hold my interest. I have a Wii and stuff but I was never big on the whole "oh wow next-gen" thing. I mean people were complaining about MarioKart Wii's graphics and I thought they looked amazing.
