I believe religion is the worst curse ever to fall upon humanity. It's rules and regs, its scheduled rituals and mumbo jumbo has done more to rip off God than anything else to come along. It ties people down with rules, it chains their feeet with restrictions, and loads their pockets down with lead and throws them in a lake to drown.

I HATE religion.

Having said that, I am all for a living, real relationship with Jesus Christ. God wants relationship more than anything. Religion kills it and puts us under a judgment that we can't survive.

God wants us to love people; enough to tell them when they are hurting themselves as well as others.

Amen

Religion =/= democracy. It isn't about what hurts people.
This is exactly the reason why I don't have a religion, really.
I mean think about it, why did your "god" or whatever give you the gift of thinking.
Are you serious? You could say the same for any rule system. Why do you have to put the ball INSIDE the basket? Do you honestly believe religion is an arbitrary set of rules, with no reason behind them?

a lot of the bible is takes and storys. Its all about how we percieve these morales religion teaches us. If the bible said that stealing things was a good thing, then every religious person would start stealing things. And I wouldn't doubt that the laws would be different if the bible said that. Stealing would be acceptable because society would praise those who did. Thats how I take it. :)

But now tell me, why do muslims still not eat swine meat for example? There are fridges now. If their ancestors would have had fridges the meat wouldn't have rotten and they'd still eat it.
Also, your example was the worst example I have ever heard in a discussion, good job.
Edit:
Also, I never said any rule system which is not associated (or not supposed to be associated) to religion is absolute, like law...

its not that people are against religion.
--well, some are, but that's silly and narrowminded.

gay people should be allowed the same benefits from partnership that anyone does.

that's it.

that's it!

that's it!

it's people who try to pin religion on things (whether pro OR anti) who are mucking up the fucking process.

guy a: "hey guy"

guy b: "hi"

guy a: "i like chicks"

guy b: "i like guys"

guy a: "your different from me and i'm threatened!"

guy b: "what im not fucking you"

guy a: "my bible says your grody and a rapist!"

guy b: "wh ... ive never raped anyone and also im buddhist :D"

guy a: "that doesnt matter aaaaaaaah someonehelpheisdifferent"

This is so true, I still don't get people who react like that when someobody has other opinions which don't affect you or other people at all.

Yes. This is exactly what religion IS. No wearing clothes with more than one kind of fabric in them, no eating pig, no women talking in church, no picking up sticks on Sunday, no gays marrying, women who get raped have to marry their rapists... It's endless, and it's arbitrary, and people like you follow them with complete disregard for whether or not they hurt anybody.

Religion really shouldn't have to be an issue, because marriage isn't a religious institution. It used to be a political one, Christianity only came into play after Constantine and the large spread of Christianity, and that's only because it was common to have state religions and religions with political power. The only religious basis one can have is a family tradition, but that's not a tradition for marriage itself therefore it's simply not applicable. To say we have to adhere to tradition would mean we should be for forced marriages for political gain rather than marriages of love. If religion has evolved to get rid of the key components, there's no reason religion should triumph over it in any way, shape, or form. Since the United States believes in equality for all people, it's effectively thrown into a situation where it has to be pro-gay rights and the only thing really stopping it is the fear of public backlash by the highly conservative groups.
