I don't care for WoW myself, I played it and it's pretty much the same thing as every other MMORPG. I wasn't willing to pay more monthly fees for it. I already had Sony's Access pack which is one monthly price for 6 games:

Everquest
Everquest II
Star Wars Galaxies
Planetside
Matrix Online
Vanguard

At level 9 Westfall might be too difficult for you, are you sure you've done all the quests in Elwynn Forest? There's the Eastvale Logging camp in the eastern part of the zone that should provide you with quests up to about 10-12, there is also a Wanted poster in a tower on the Western area of Elwynn Forest that provides you with one of the first group based quests (unless you're good enough to solo it, the quest is called Wanted: Hogger! or something like that). If you've done all of those quests then you could always go to Stormwind and take the Deeprun Tram in the Dwarven District to get to the city of Ironforge, from there go outside to Dun Morogh and head south to a town called Kharanos where you can do a few more quests to help tip you over to 10-12 before heading to Westfall (or instead of Westfall if you go to Dun Morogh you also have the option of heading east to Loch Modan).

You can get new weapon Proficienies by talking to Weapon Masters in different Capitol cities, there's 4 (or 5 if you have The Burning Crusade) Weapon Masters in total, one for each race, each one will teach you different things. The one closest to you would be in Stormwind and will teach both Sword Skills (Two handed and One handed), Staves and Bow skills (among one or two others, I think). If you're interested in Axes/Maces/Guns then head on through to the Deeprun Tram to Ironforge where you can learn them from the Dwarven and Gnomish Weapon Masters. If you're up for the long, long, long, long walk you can head to the Night Elf capitol city of Darnassus where you will learn Fist Weapons and one or two other skills.

If you're unsure of where these weapon masters are then just ask one of the many city guards patrolling the city. Each weapon skills costs 10 silver to learn (except for Polearms for Warriors/Paladins and Hunters which costs 1 gold and requires level 20).

As for getting new weapons, don't just rely on quest rewards and lucky drops, go to the nearest capitol city (in your case Stormwind) and ask a guard to point you in the direction of the Auction House where you can buy items that other players want to sell, the Auction House interface is relatively friendly to new users and fairly self explanatory, don't buy anything you can't use and look for stats that your class needs (example, don't go for intellect or spirit if you're a warrior and don't go for Strength/Agility if you're a mage), you can pick up pretty much anything at the auction house so be sure to check it regularly but be intelligent with what you're buying, it's not worth spending loads of money on items that will be easily replaced in a few levels, especially not early on.

While you're in a capitol city you could also use the oppurtunity to pick up professions if you haven't already. Simply ask a guard to point you in the direction of the trainers, there's a lot of guides on World of Warcraft forums about professions and compliment each other and which classes are better suited to which professions.

Hope that helps, I know I rambled a fair bit.

Thankyou so much Element, I teamed up with a guy and we completed a fair variety of quests

ill be on my way to stormwind to train, as i went to westfall and it sucked badly :(

But thanks again :)

Seriously, people are having trouble on RP servers? Sisters of Elune must be different. There are only a few people that RP (not too hard to find the ones that do, if you want to, though), and they really aren't restrictive at all. I could see the hardcore RP realms getting a tad annoying.

Also, Shedlight:

Take every quest you can in the beginning. Aside from getting valuable experience, money and reputation, many quests can also net you better equipment for free!

When someone offers you a reward, scroll to the bottom of the page and see what the quest rewards are, and try to seek out a quest giver that is giving you a better weapon.

EDIT: Well, I was just too late, I guess :)

Hehe, also make sure you check the eastern and southern areas of goldshire for quests. Places like the lumber mill in the east, and the farms in the south are great places for quests.

As for Hogger, the big boss gnoll, most people can't solo him on their first character.

I agree with someone said about taking to tram and going the Kharanos. It's beneficial to complete all three of the starting areas, and possibly the area following - mostly because it gets you familiar with otherwise worthless towns like Darnassus.

And you need to get used to Ironforge fast.

From what ive seen, World of Warcraft looks like a positively amazing game.. But I feel like if I get involved, I am the type who will be completely consumed. Since I have things like grades and whatnot to worry about, I regretfully have to avoid it for my own good.

Suggestion if you have the expansion. Get a level 65+ Mage to teleport you to Shattrah City in Outland and then set your Hearthstone there. Because there are portals to each of the major cities (Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus, and Exodar) as well as it's a big hub for players. Even more so than Ironforge used to be. Just don't venture outside, the level 61+ monsters will make quick work of you.

Being able to teleport to any city makes it easy to reach Dungeons, as well as lets you hit any of the starting areas.

Loch Modan is nice for new players, as the quests in Auberdine (Night Elf lv10+ area) are fairly complicated, and the quests in Westfall (Human lv10+ area) are usually being done to death by people. Although Westfall is nice because you can make some friends to quest with.

Prexus is right about Shattrath, however it's not a neccesity, most players don't need it, and if it's your first character then I highly suggest you travel on foot and take in the environments around you.

Westfall is good for questing as most people go there for the Deadmines instance so there's quite a few people around to talk to in the general channels or group up with while questing. If you run out of soloable quests around your level in Westfall and fancy a change in scenery then head on over to Loch Modan where you can do quests that go from 10-17ish which'll help boost you up, and Loch Modan is a really visually appealing zone (in my opinion atleast).

I prefer Loch Modan immensely because, I swear, enemies in Westfall are more aggressive. It's easy to get just about anywhere in Loch Modan without aggroing anything.

I guess it depends what level you get there, if my Alliance alt is level 10 when it's time for me to move on I head to Westfall for 3 or 4 levels, if it's around level 12 then I generally go to Loch Modan as I find it better to quest there, once you know all the quests it's fairly easy to group them up and do quests at the same time.
