What Tutorials Do you Need?

I'd like a tutorial on how to best use
the default battle system.

I like turn based battle system, but they
can be very hard to get right.

Maybe a tutorial explaining how to best
balance your numbers, and how to make
battles more interesting for the player.

could anyone please make a tileset making tutorial?
and like go through the steps on how to make them and make them look good?
Basically, I am trying to make a game (I am actually writing it down on paper, so I dont make eit up as I go)
Once that is done, I will start making the music, Icons (thanks for the tutorial) and other stuff.
the thing is, I want to avoid useing the RTP if possible...
and since I am the one who knows what I need, I wanted to know a little more about how tilesets are made, and what they need to have and so on.

Please?

Hmm... I've always wanted to know how people make it in the title screen so that instead of a window with "New Game, Load Game, Shutdown" on it (I can change the names of the three commands, that's easy, but I don't know how to make it different altogether), you can move the cursor between parts of the image, if you see what I mean, so you can select the different commands without them being in a window, like for instance militantmilo's project Awareness and ScriptKitty's Pale.

Well, as Ive stated Im just starting with rmxp.. What Id like too see is a sort of 'uber-n00b' tut, that gives a few step my step examples on how the system works.. like, total Barney style.

We've all seen the 'how to make a chest' tuts for beginners, something along those lines.. but also have one for variables the same way, and basicly guide a brand new player, who hasnt seen the program well enough that they could at least throw together a 2-3 map fetch quest with a boss, random encounters, and a weapons store perhaps.

Just something for all the really, really new folks to at least get a grasp on the definitions and basic uses of some of the commands.

Everbody who asks about a "farming script" always gets told to "do it with events"... but has anybody ever actually made a good tutorial on how to make a garden with events?

It's basic knowlegde of variables. What people need rather is a comprehensive switch and variable tutorial.

Oh shi-

i need a small tutorial on how can i move the wings charset on other charsets in photoshop ':| :P
because i need wings on ALOT of charsets for my game.. so i guess it would be a too big job to request someone to do it for me.
ive tried it soo many times and theres always some prob.. because..
1) i need to save the png file to JPEG in paint because PS doesnt let you work with PNG and says they're somekinda index and you cant edit them.
2) when i make it to JPEG then there will be a background which will be un-transparent ':| when i use magic eraser is PS, many places will look weird :-/
3) the size.. when i drag the wings on the char, the char will need more space (charset will have to be bigger, if you know what i mean.) so how i get the right size? so it wouldnt look like the char was floating in the air or something -_-

but if anyone could help, even a PM would help! :)

thanks in advance...

@zealex: 1) After you opened the PNG image, check the title bar of the image. It should either say RGB or Indexed. For the second case, go in the menu bar to Image => (first or second option, can't remember ^_^ ) => RGB. After that, you have an RGB image you can edit at will.
2) Shouldn't be needed anymore... don't use JPEG for sprites at all (read my Graphics Guide if you want to learn more... link in my signature).
3) Go to Edit => Transform. You can scale the sprite now at will. Get used to the different options for this function, as it's easy to screw up things.
Also, scaled images will look off, compared to normal ones, so the best method to do it would be to redraw them...

Maybe someone should make a step by step tut showing just that.

thanks for the help ^_^
but.. what u meant with "redraw" ? redo all charset?

to Sion: I hope someone does :) it would be pretty useful

It ever occour to you that learning how to make a farming system is a good lesson in switches and variables? Teaching by example.

My tutorial teaches switches and variables in a much simpler way- just by using them to up pages in an event. Then again, mine's for total newbies.

The problem with teaching variables and stuff through an example is that a lot of people will just forget about reading it to learn and just mimic what the tutorial tells them to do. It happened a lot back when there were hundreds of tutorials for systems and stuff on GamingWorld back in days of 2K. You'd see a shitload of people using the same tutorial features over and over in games, and nobody really LEARNED from them but only mimiced them.

Edit:

Maybe somebody already has! Both Ccoa and myself are currently working on tutorials to walk new users through the program.
