What are the benefits of exercise according to you???

Why do I exercise everyday? So I don't get my ass handed back to me 5 pieces when I get to boot camp. For everyone else? Adrenaline? I don't know...I'm not sure why civilians exercise to be honest.

Um, we exercise to stay healthy and fit. To look good.

I don't think it would be a good idea if we all just lazed around and became unhealthy. :/

Since I've been walking more often I find when I do HAVE to walk a few miles it passes by really easily; I don't get out of breath any more or anything. That's one benefit definately.

Regular exercise has proven that who want to maintain a healthy lifestyle, diet and fitness and also increased mind power. The Exercise careful monitoring the health problems.Exercise also good for maintain pressure and diabetes.

I'm trying to take better care of myself, have more energy, not get cancer or heart disease or diabetes, ditch the weight I gained in college, etc. etc. I'm trying to get back into doing DDR again since I hate absolutely every other kind of exercise. I can't do more than like two songs on heavy without feeling like I'm going to pass out right now, though. So I'm playing on standard until I get my stamina up again. Being a video game addict comes in handy occasionally, I guess!

Also, idk why you guys hate vegetables. Asparagus is amazing, especially with garlic. We always have lots of flash frozen veggies on hand since they're great for you (often they retain more nutrients than the "fresh" stuff you buy in stores since they're frozen right after they're picked) and really convenient. I only usually have about one serving a day with dinner, though, so I'm trying to incorporate more into my diet and eat them as snacks, etc. And yes, cilantro is amazing. I only recently discovered its amazingness, but now I'm putting it on everything. It's actually really awesome in sandwiches and can be a great way to jazz up an otherwise boring lunch. I haven't tried parsnips, but I definitely will. Also on the food front, I used to drink 2-3 cans of diet soda a day, but I'm completely quitting. That stuff is seriously not good for you, and the "diet" label may be a misnomer. There have been studies done that may indicate that drinking lots of diet soda is at least as bad for weight loss as regular soda, but it's hard to account for the various other factors that go along with drinking lots of diet soda (e.g. eating other unhealthy crap), and correlation doesn't necessarily imply causation. Even so, if you want to be healthier, not drinking that crap is definitely a good plan. I find I don't really miss it once I'm in the habit of drinking other stuff instead. I used to reach for sodas just because they were there, really.

Also, O-mie, losing that much weight is really impressive! Great job!

I used to really hate any kind of exercise until I bought a new bike last year. My old bike was really tiny and more of a BMX kind of thing for doing tricks, so it sucked riding it for more than half an hour. I got a new bike that is perfect for my height and can ride it for hours without getting uncomfortable.

Obviously in the winter I can't ride it but once April comes I'm outta here. I live in a very rural area so there's not really a whole lotta places to go but during the summer every once in a while I'll ride the ~15 km to Lake Erie and go for a swim. Usually I take it out for a ride around my town, nothing very exciting but just to get me outside. There's a decent amount of hills here so it can get tiring surprisingly fast.

I'm also pretty fortunate because I live only a couple minutes away from some of the best swimming in the world. It's only open from June - August but as soon as those temps hit 25 I try and get out there for a couple hours once in a while. Swimming is incredibly fun imo but only if you have a neat place to do it. I go to the pool sometimes but doing 25 lengths in a public swimming pool is nowhere near as fun or entertaining as swimming a kilometre in Lake Erie.

In the winte I tend to hibernate a little but I'm really lucky that my job keeps me physically active, or else I'd be a wreck every spring. :x At an average shift at working I'm walking several kilometres, running around, lifting boxes that are 50+ lbs, all for a couple of hours. Doesn't seem like a lot but it's pretty much continuous exercise for several hours straight with no rests in between, and when you do three of these shifts in a row it gets pretty tiring! I've also started to take up cross-country skiing and snowshoes now. There aren't a whole lot of neat trails or parks nearby (very agricultural here) but even dicking around in some fields nearly in snowshoes is a good way to get outside for an hour or two.

That was a really long post basically saying you won't stick to an exercise regime if you don't like it. This is why I can never consistently work out at the gym for more than a couple of weeks. Idk, it just seems weird being stuck inside and running on a treadmill. I don't really like the gym 'atmosphere' and would rather be outside. Just me I guess vOv

I would LOVE to live in a place like BC or Vermont where you can go skiing in the winter anytime you want, or biking/hiking in the summer. It would be great not having to travel more than an hour just to do to a shitty little ski hill (although it's pretty good considering how flat it is here) But I'm stuck in agricultural hell so I gotta work with what I got.

:X bleh

im a "supertaster". i have more tastebuds than normal. mostly it just causes me an aversion to anything with even just a tiny bit of bitter flavor. asparagus or most beers or espresso or a lot of types of freshwater fish, or olives, etc., make me vomit. like i cant even control the gag reflex. they're horrible. i always wondered how people could eat them, let alone like them. it seems strange and awful to me.

i can also taste PTC. it is the worst thing ever holy shit. i still remember the taste of the test strip. it was so strong i got woozy and the aftertaste lasted for like a whole day. and i can smell cyanide. it smells burnt. like burnt tree bark or something.

it is a lame superpower but i guess i would make a good taste tester for royalty worried about being poisoned or something?? idk :/

I'd love to be able to bike more, but my current bike is too tall for me and has these really thin racing tires that make it really hard to control the bike considering how out of practice I am. If I got a new bike, I might bike more, but Atlanta is a shitty place to go biking. Hills everywhere and no bike lanes.

That makes sense, Ven. I can definitely see how the asparagus taste would be too strong if you were very sensitive to it. It's really good with garlic, though. Also, just out of curiosity, what kind of stuff did you eat while you were on a diet? Any tasty low-cal recipes to share?

As for it utility, idk, you could...review food if you just avoided everything even remotely bitter... :S Too bad, it seems limiting!

Asparagus is lovely but it's gotta be cooked right. And don't even think about tinned asparagus. Do you grow it there or is it flown in from England? I always thought it was native to us and us alone. We have asparagus festivals and things here. :x

no they grow it all up in here. esp the west coast. we grow p much everything in amerka. i can't really think of a farmable food we don't mass produce in some comparable fashion to any other country.

I'm like that with EVERY vegetable except peas, carrots and parsnips. Things like cabbage and broccoli will make me gip as soon as they're in my mouth, so I can't eat them. I remember having a sprout at Christmas years ago and as soon as I took a bite of it, I threw up over my dinner because the taste really was unbearable...

I don't really do much exercise, I mean, we've got a gym in the back garden with all the equipment and stuff, I used to use the treadmill for an hour a day and slap a film on to take my mind off how tired my legs were getting, but then that went from an hour a day, to every couple of days, then week, and now I just don't really get on it too often. I've never bothered with weights or anything because I don't see the need to have big muscles, and "ripped" men just don't look nice anyway, lol.

As for healthy eating... that's not really me. I drink all sorts of fizzy pop, mainly coke, sprite, and energy drinks, I DO drink dilute and flavoured water, but plain water on its own, I can't stomach it, it just doesn't have a nice taste to it whatsoever. I eat a lot of bad foods too, I'm always ordering takeaways, and I don't really cook healthy meals too often since there isn't much I like that IS healthy...
The only vegetables I like are peas, carrots and parsnips, I USED to like turnip in my potatoes but now they're just disgusting (I don't count potatoes as a veg since I only like them mashed, and I can't eat 'em without butter and milk). But I do like fruits... sort of, apples, grapes (Both red and green, as long as they're seedles), oranges, lemons and watermelon (I don't like normal melons... they suck!)

So yeah, I don't do much exercise anymore, I don't really eat too well, and I currently weigh around 10st. which is 140lbs, which is pretty much my ideal weight apparently, since I'm 5'8 and I've looked at a height to weight chart, lol...

I guess I just rely on my incredibly fast metabolism to keep my "figure" lol...

Yeah water always tastes weird to me, too. It always tastes like metal. Like I'm drinking a penny. "Fancy" bottled water always tastes like a shopping bag. IDK. I guess it's just tasting what it's all stored in, but it's not like I have a fresh, bubbling spring outside my door.

I gradually got used to water but for years couldn't stand the taste. I live in a hard water area (a really hard water area) and so moving away from there to a soft water place was um... horrible. Even the coffee tastes disgusting here.

Bingo! Water tastes like metal, you're right lol, as if I've just taken the change out of my pocket and started sucking on it...

Just found out all water in Britain besides Manchester is classified as "VERY HARD", with some places just being a lot harder than others.
