What are the benefits of exercise according to you???

Well, pretty obvious that it keeps you fit.

Let's make this an exercise discussion thread. What do you do? How often?

I used to walk 8 miles a week but stopped as it got too dark to walk back from the shopping centre I was walking to (it would involve walking through Leicester City Centre at 8pm which isn't something you wanna do).

Besides that I've been trying to learn various things I can do in my room (besides :fap:). Squats, pushups, kickups, etc.

Hmmmm... The benefits to me? Becoming a hot chick. Gaining confidence.

I was continuously exercising to my ability in the form of walks every day for an hour. I can't run, 'nor afford to go to a gym. I was playing DDR, but I don't have any room for that right now. >.> I was losing weight, yesh, and was quite pleased with myself.

I stopped when I just lost my motivation for everything. Now I don't see the point since I'm preggers and I'll have no idea how much weight I'll lose, since I'll just gain some anyway. I'll probably try again after the baby is born (plus I can push him/her around in a stroller!)

I played DDR for a long time. For the people who say it doesnt work, ill tell you right now it does. You can seriously burn alot of weight off if you are good at it, and it can tone your calves quite well. You have to be able to do the difficult modes, however. Like I said, I used to play for a long time and it was quite a work out for my legs, but it was great.

i hate it i h-a-t-e it if i'm doing something repetitive. i've done exercise regimens before for long stints (several months) but i cant stick to them b/c i just absolutely hate doing them so much. plus it is so jesus christ time consuming. i have to wait until after work, and have to dress for it and prepare water/towels/etc and that takes 15-20 mins, and then the workout itself takes 1:30, and then i have to clean up (10min) and shower and all that (45min-1hr) and then it's nearly bedtime so bleh.

i get my exercise in with vigorous housecleaning and various certain athletic activities i shall not sully your sweet ears with. and im in decent enough shape. so good enough!!!

there are excecises for pregnant women, and you shouldn't just say it's meaningless as it's a mentality that (after i guess 9 months) would be really hard to shake off (oh i just had a baby i'm still gonna have the fat anyways, etc.). And as far as i can tell, Strawberry you're very intact with your feelings so you'll prolly be affected a bit more.
and besides try some safe sex during pregnancy that's some good excersize

and ddr is awesome, but i BARELY have any space to place the mat(s). The one i love playing the most is xephyr tatsh, even though it gets ridiculously hard each level. I can BARELY finish it on the 3rd level of difficulty (or 4th, been a while since i played). Also don't play it for extended periods, maybe 20 min every now and then.

Awesome Bro

Benefits?

Makes me "MEDIA" attrative to the ladies... and when they are all over me, turning them down because they're shallow and think that way. LOL

I jog two miles every morning... well, mostly every morning. It is almost a crime to take this time away from sleeping, but I need to lose weight. Benefits? Chances are, I won't be having acute coronary syndrome, diabetes or ictus. It also gives you more confidence, which helps, since I'm shy.

I used to jog 5 miles every saturday, but then I stopped because there was 10 inches of snow here, and now it's constantly raining like there's no tomorrow :( I am also going to sign up for our new gym, which opens in february.
And I used to play WiiFit quite a lot, but I have no room do it properly anymore.
The main benefit for me is getting fitter.

As for the topic's main question... it heavily depends on the kind of exercise. If you try to exercise your endurance and stamina by jogging each day for a certain amount of time, that's perfectly functional.
Then there's people who go to the gym four times a week, note their muscles are getting bigger and don't realize they're still as weak as shit compared to someone with half as big muscles that come from real-life applications, not made-up practising apperture. In the gym case, the benefits are looking nice to get yourself a girl who's into that, and preventing you of physically hurting her, because you don't have the necessary strength for it.
That applies to stuff like push-ups as well, as what you're doing is just training one particular motion that's not very likely to occur in whatever you're doing (unless you're teaching push-ups for living). That doesn't mean it's useless, as you ARE training a motion, so if you're practising 5000 other motions with the same effort, you might actually be better at the thing you really want to do... thing is, you could've just done the thing you wanted to do over and over again, and get the same effect a lot easier, with multiples of efficiency.

I kinda notice that might be a little glibberish if you don't realize I'm talking about variable appliances - that includes martial arts, climbing, parkour, stuff like that. From years of martial arts experience, I can tell you that regular practising in man-to-man (or girl, obviously) competition is a lot more effective than practicing in gym, or whatever - and yes, I am talking strength-wise. Practising is more efficient in both techique and strength, so yeah... that's kinda where my "lol, gym person" attitude comes from.

If you are a gym person: Don't worry, you're at least looking good.
(maybe)

Star and I just bought a Wii Fit Plus yesterday. We played it for about an hour, but wow I can't really do much without hurting myself in some way. I feel like I need some girl's advice on how to exercise or something. O_oa

Exercise is beneficial in many ways. The best exercises for your body are walking (preferably uphill in there too) jump rope, swimming, and other cardio. Walking might sound like it's not much exercise, but it's actually one of the best ways to work the tummy fat off of you, and having more stomach fat actually increases your chances of certain types of cancer. Exercise also is known to improve your general mood; as being inactive can sort of put you into a stagnant, depressive state at times.

Exercise is best if you do it about 3+ times a week for 30 minutes or so each time. It helps to keep your body healthy and fit. Cardio is very good for your heart, and you will feel more energy in your daily life when you start to exercise. I also find that resistance training is very good for building muscle and getting rid of fats, for example...walking uphill, or rowing type machines, or even those stretchy cord things you step on and pull up with your arms. (That's actually what I've been doing lately to work off the fats on my arms, and I already feel muscles forming in a place that has long since been goo.)

As with anything though, its important to eat a balanced and nutritional diet if you are doing a lot of exercise. Nutrition powah!

Strawberry, how far along are you? I was doing pregnancy yoga up utnil the day before my water broke. Was swimming up until third trimester for something like 2-3 hours a day as well as walking in the shallow end for another hour or so a day. Then again, I had been doing all of that and more before my pregnancy, so it wasn't a shock to my body. You CAN work out while pregnant, but can't be an all of a sudden type thing. Talk to your OB. He or she will give you guidelines and recommendations.

Also, don't assume you'll lose the baby weight quickly. You won't. Breastfeeding will help if you do breastfeed, but it is HARD because you're sore, tired, and have to keep to the baby's schedule. I'm just now getting back into the swing of things, and my son is 1.5.
