Vagrant Euphoria: Revised

Well from what I read of the script so far it sounded pretty good. Well written, good air of mystery to it. Technology seems nice, I'm not too keen on when people go for technology of the modern age, I'm a medieval or sci-fi man, they usually produce the best atmosphere in stories. Yours would fall under sci-fi in my idea. All though to be fair my favourite game was FF7 and that was modern age so there are some exceptions.
 
Thanks for the good input. I tried to write in a way where there is mystery. Where there's mystery, there's intrigue, and that makes people keep on playing. I'm happy that you liked it.

Is your story about the Euphoric experiences one might achieve as a vagrant? Because if not then your title is silly...
 
No, it doesn't have to do with that. And my title is not silly because it ties in completely with my storyline. In fact, its actually almost a quote from one of the characters(won't say which, that would spoiler the mystery).

welcome back atnas, good to have you. Sorry that nothing has been going on in the thread lately guys, haven't really been doing anything recently. But there is something I need to finish before I get going. Once things do get going, I am going to unleeash a design plethora if you will, lol. I'm going to try to finish that task as soon as I can, so keep a keen eye out on the horizon for Vagrant Euphoria(the game isn't dead, for those wondering. just to let you all know)
 
Hey everyone. Sorry its been a while, but like I said, I had something I needed to finish. It's still not done, but almost. There reason why I am posting is because I wanted to let you guys know about a change in development direction. I've realized over the last few weeks, that the game I'm promising is an impossibility. At least, some aspects of it. The battle system for one, while it would be amazing, is something that making by myself would literally take years. The same goes for the 3D graphics. So, I am taking the game in a new direction. I don't want to say anything yet, but, I will say this. Within the next couple of months, you can expect something that hasn't ever been posted in this thread before. Screenshots. That's right, actual in-game screen shots. Also, today I WILL be posting the new design for Vance. So keep a look out.

As for the battle system. The one I had in mind was a complete impossibility. So, I am going to be doing something, a bit more simplistic and a lot more fun. I realized that many games that we love have battle systems that are simple, but fun and easy to use. So, the battle system, along with the character development system are being redone as of now.

That's about it for now guys. Keep an eye out for that new design. It will be up today. And, stay alert for more. The task I have to finish should be done within about a month if I stay on it. After that, its a design plethora. Later

I think its much better then the old one, and it fixes a lot of the old designs flaws. For instance, there is more detail on the pants, the horrible design on the jacket is gone, and it looks like he's more of a soldier now. Let me know what you guys think. Also, I didn't really want to say anything about it, but I wanted to ask for some help. Since I am going to be using sprites for the game now, I was wondering what is the best way to make a character template. I wanted to do something similar to KH:CoM, but with just a little bit more detail. For anyone who knows how to make templates or just anyone with any suggestions, please help me out. Thanks.

Well, since I said something about the sprites, I figure I will just let you guys know. Since my 3D teacher decided to leave the state, with my money, I have not been able to resume my 3D training. And, since I can't find anyone to teach my, the idea that this game was going to be 3D was purely my imagination at this point. So, I have decided to go back to the old school style, and do it with sprites. I am going to make the characters very detailed, so it will be high quality sprites. Also, I wont be using any tilesets from RMXP or any other game. I will be solely making my own. In fact, each map will be hand crafted, there won't be tilesets. While I hate always referencing to these games, you can expect maps to be like the ones from FFXII: Revenant Wings. Very high quality sprites.

As for the 3D part, I have decided to resurrect the Revolution Engine! That's right, I'm bringing that sucker back. Only this time, it will be done with scripting, not events. Events would be massively long and create an EXTREMELY large amount of lag. Basically, I'm going to create a perspective changing script with a map teleportation script. So, as you move forward things become bigger, move back, smaller. And, you can change your camera view, thus changing the map you're on. So, each map with have 8 different versions, one for each direction. Still gotta think about some of the kinks, but thats about it.

Since I will be using sprites now, that is why I said within a couple of months you can expect some screenshots. Of course, I still need to learn how to use photoshop to make really good ones, but hey, photoshop is easier to use then Maya ><. Thats about it guys. Later.

I looove the new design of Vance roxas! Looks like he's put on abit of weight since last i saw him, has he been training?! XD

But the thing i see most of the time is that the drawings seem bent, it's not that much of a problem but vance just seems like he's about to topple over^-^

Another thing, the new design of Vance looks eirely like a mix of Tidus and Vahn, looks greeeat though! Great job!
Can't wait to see some more stuff, screens? Whoop!, i'm in...
 
Lol, it looks like he's put on weight because his head is disproportionate, that was my bad. It is also my bad that it looks like he's falling over, I just noticed that. As for the Tidus/Vahn mix, this was actually the first design I ever created completely without looking at a FF character. This design came solely from japanese rock fashion and clothing wore in desert cultures. Then again...Vaan was based on a desert culture, so there might be a similarity there. The pants may look similar to Tidus now that I've taken a glance, but that's because of the style. Tidus' pants are very rocker-esque, same as Vance's. I really hope it doesn't come off as Vance looks like them though, I really try hard to make all of my designs original.
 
Hey guys. Just a small update. I just recently got in contact with a Mr. Sonny Tanaka, and asked him for permission to use his artwork for VE, and he said yes. So, expect a lot of his great work in the game. And, as a nice little treat, I decided to post this. This will be the background for the CMS.

Well guys, I have some news. Based on your point of view, its either good or bad. For the last couple of months, I've had a really bad feeling about the story as I've been writing the script. I've felt that it feels way to much like FF7, and a lot like the Matrix. Last night, I had a talk with a friend, and they pretty much confirmed my fears. So, this is the situation. Vagrant Euphoria's story is going to be doing a complete 180. A new story is going to be created. The world, the characters, and a lot of the systems will be staying the same, so don't worry, its not square one. But, not only has the story been constantly bothering me, I don't think people are too interested in it. And I can see why. But, the new story will be much much much better. So, I am, sadly, pronouncing this version of Vagrant Euphoria, dead. It hurts to do it, so much change and design went through this thread. But, it's time to start fresh. It is Sept, 11. On October 11, a new thread will come up on the forum. Vagrant Euphoria will be back, but newer and better then ever, with a completely original, much more interesting story! So, keep an eye out on the horizon. For anyone who knows about Hinduism, keep your eye even sharper. A lot of key themes from that religion, along with Buddhism, and Norse Mythology are being utilized in the new story.

sorry to hear about the story. I'd love to help you come up with any ideas. PM me if you want to bounce any of yours off of me. I'm pretty good with plots.


But, the s3dg stuff, that sounds a lot like what i'm doing. But everything in my game is being rendered in 3d. Only without a 3d camera. I'd prefer not to have one. Well, it sounds like you're doing good. but that guy is right, it is hard to pull off 3d in a 2d game. be careful of non-antialised images. they look good, but don't translate well into RMXP.

Hey everyone. I just wanted to give you guys a little update on how VE v.2.0 is coming.

The graphics department is final first of all, it will NOT be changing anymore. The game will be 2D, running on sprites and custom made maps. My hope, is that the second game in this saga will be able to run on 3D, and that my skills will be strong enough by that time.

The basis for the character growth system is finished. I still need to work out the specifics, but now I have a good starting point. I don't want to give away to much, but I will say two things; vibrations, and fields. As for the battle system, it isn't quite ready yet, one reason why the new thread might not be up by the 12th as promised. But, I'm working hard to see that it does.

Next, the story. The basic story for the game is coming a long really well. Its almost finished, and I think it's much better then the last one. At least the new one doesn't sound as similar to The Matrix or FF7. I will try to finish it by Oct. 12 as promised, but I want to make sure that its a sound and stable story. As for the story as a whole, what I want is very specific. We all know what the Matrix was for cinema. It was a great action sci-fi story that had a plethora of philosophical and religious undertones and symbolism. I want The Vagrant Saga to do the same for gaming. I want this game to have a fun, interesting storyline that's easy to play and enjoy, while having a very powerful underlying philosophical and religious meaning. I'll be drawing mostly from Hinduism, Buddhism, and Norse Mythology for the main storyline and some of the underlying story. The deeper story will be drawn mainly from The Bible(Genesis in particular), Hinduism, and Buddhism. For this reason, my studying of these religions and mythologies, the entire storyline might take a very long time to be finished. This is another reason why the thread might be delayed from the previously anticipated Oct.12th. I will however, try to have that basic story prepared.
