Ultima Verità

Ok, I'm going to do my thing and jump on the non-ultima "Ultima" games.

I'm wondering how you picked your title?  I understand that you want something cool sounding (I do too), but does the word "Ultima" have anything to do with the game?

The Ultima franchise has spawned over 20 games including a 10 year old MMORPG that is online to this day.

It's like naming it "Final Fantasy Verità" and having nothing to do with Final Fantasy.

Although "Ultima" as a word in the English language means, "the last syllable of a word."  If that's your reasoning and is a central part of the game then... it gets fuzzy.  After all "Final Fantasy" isn't a word in the English language.

And even still, the Ultima series as a gaming franchise is well established.  If you're going to name a game, as a general rule, you should stay away from associating with other franchises.

I doubt he knew that the company existed; pretty sure that he was just looking up random foreign words that sounded cool. I actually haven't heard of the company myself, though I've been living in the gutters in the gaming world. :p

I should add that the reason I'm so hard on non-ultima Ultima games is the fact that I'm constantly on the lookout for other Ultima fan games.  Both so I can play them and also see if they have a website up so we can do an affiliate/link exchange or maybe I could even host their game on my site.

I would love to have other Ultima RMXP games on my site.

As far as I know, mine is the only Ultima fan game out there.  With all the thousands and thousands of other people fiddling with RMXP there have to be others, but I haven't found any.

uh....the title of my game is Italian, I'm not using the word "Ultima" for any other reason.  It means "Last Truth"

So don't go into a long speil about "Ultima" games when my game has nothing to do with Ultima.  >->

Which was exactly my point.

"Ultima" as a word has its meanings in language.  But Ultima as an RPG is a well established franchise.  Do whatever you want, but it will be mistaken from time to time.  (You don't really want others to check out your game through name recognition just to be let down...?)

Best not to be mistaken at all.

A spear is... one of the lightest weapons around.. how can a woman.. or even a child not lift one of those?

>_> its an rpg world people.  Gimme a break.  RPG's aren't realistic.  Smart wizards (uh.....scientists, rather) came up with a way to fuse certain ores and magic together to create a way to make inaminate objects think or their own.

Lasers are just guns that shoot hot beams of light.  >_>

Ugh. That's what people say when they haven't thought something through.

The fact of the matter is, that if you say stuff like that, you're not gonna immerse the player!

With something like this, players will ask "Hey, if they can use magic to make robots, then why not TVs, or computers, or Nintendo?!".  That is a bad thing. You want the player to become immersed in the game. That way, they can become attached to your characters, and really get into it.

I'd say follow Gear's advice, and make Zex more of a steampunk style robot. That way, the player will probably retain their suspension of disbelief.

Im going to have to defend the guy here..

DaVinci came up with some pretty cool blue prints before alot of the other futuristic inventions was invented.. so... why cant his world have the same knowledge? Just because it rains.. doesnt mean there should be oceans.. it could be alot of h20 in the air.. Savvy?
