If my girlfriend told me she wanted to be a boy (and was actually taking steps towards that) that would actually be a pretty big dealbreaker! I'd be able to love her as a person, but if she was really going to 'be a boy', no longer as a mate.

I am a heterosexual male. I am attracted to females. If the female I'm dating turned into a male, then there goes the entire dynamic of why we're together, dating, and having sex.

Sure, we can still be friends, and love them platonically, but date? How would that even work? Would I have to force myself to be a gay man?

No, that is not how adult relationships work. Yes, gender does matter. How is this even a debate?

I can also love a friend without having sex of them regardless of gender. If my girlfriend turned into a dude, no, I can no longer date them, but I can still platonically love them and still be just as good as a friend.

Because sexuality is an important, if not utterly vital part of relationships and radically altering that factor is enough to change said relationship? Like I said, there are plenty of male friends that I love if not more than any girlfriend I've had, but considering that I reserve romantic and sexual attraction to females, yes, giving her a peepee would change the situation considering she'd no longer be a female.
