Transsexuals

Considering the majority of the world are not Christian can we keep arguments of "god says it's wrong" out of these debates?

Highest stat I've found is 33% Christian prevalence in the world though this counts countries such as America as being wholly Christian which is wrong anyway.

idk enough about islam to comment on that, but in the end how you treat other people should come down to your own personal thoughts, logic, opinions, and actions--not some religion's. religion is mostly just the expressions of the thoughts, logic, opinions, and actions of some other people who lived a long time ago.

keep religion out of this debate, this is how YOU feel about and perceive transgenders, not how you think GOD or whoever else does.

Transsexualism in my opinion, can be a disease or just a wish to be the opposite gender. I don't really know enough about the subject to talk about this, but I've heard that some people have real difficulties adjusting to their gender. It's not they "want" to be a girl if they are a boy or a boy if they are a girl, it's that they can't behave like their gender.

Like I said, I don't know enough, but I once read about a guy who felt he was a female from the inside. It was said that he acted like a female, was addicted to girly stuff (like cooking, dolls, etc) and whatsoever. He did try to act like his real gender, but he couldn't. He stayed like that until he grew up, married, and got kids (I think, it was long ago). But after being unable to hold it in any longer, he got a sex change operation and changed into a woman. His "wife" began helping him (or her) adjusting to his new body.

What I am saying is that there might be really people who was born with these issues. You can't really know, but I think that as long as it's serious, or the person is having mental troubles because of it, a sex change operation can't be said no to, I guess, as long as it's serious enough.

Seriously though, people shouldn't care what other people do in regards to this, it's their life so it is their choice, who are we to judge someone about shit like this.

Of course, but that doesn't mean we can't have our opinions on it, and share our thoughts on it. After all, that's what this topic is for.

Here's an interesting paragraph I just read by someone having this discussion in another community I frequent. Disclaimer: THIS DOES NOT REFLECT MY ACTUAL VIEWS.

There is a difference in legitimacy between homosexuality and transsexuality. Transsexuality is a delusion, while homosexuality is not.

I support homosexuality from a purely objective viewpoint because it's obviously a fact only the person experiencing it can ever verify. "Am I attracted to people the same sex as me?" is a question that only the person feeling such things can answer. On the other hand, "Am I a male or a female?" is a question that can be objectively answered by anyone by simple observation of the facts. Homosexuals should be considered to be just like heterosexuals, but transsexuals need psychological treatment for high-grade delusional thinking.

Someone else responds later in the topic
The real question becomes 'Should we try to fix the mental disorder, or make the physical match the mental'. I mean, isn't that all ambition is, changing the real world to fit in line with your mental views- IE, of yourself being successful?

His response
So should we try to fix something that is genuinely wrong with a person and has every possibility of manifesting in other, unforeseen, and potentially disastrous ways, or should we accommodate psychosis and let their mental illness fester?

First of all, I don't get why anyone really cares to be honest. 0_o I mean it's not affecting anyone but the person who's going through the confusion. Saying "all of x people are y" is stupid, as well. We're all individuals with our own problems and I don't think we could ever define all transsexuals like in what Feld quoted above. Some people spend way too much time trying to tell others how to live their lives.

That being said, I'm fine with you wanting to do whatever with your body. However, I think it's incredibly important that a person who isn't what they display themselves as should make it known to someone they're in a relationship with. Like prior to it beginning. None of that 2-years-into-marriage-reveal shit. Because then it's affecting someone else and they have every right to know who you are/were in case they're not OK with that.

My personal belief? I don't think there should be a need to turn yourself into anything you aren't. I'm against non-essential surgery of any kind, to be honest, because I think we should try to work with what we have instead of trying to cover it up. Regardless of whatever surgery/changes you have done, your base genetics are still the same and you can't escape them. If you really want to have a sex change go ahead but I personally think there are better options to dealing with whatever conflicts you're having. There's no reason you can't dress or act as whoever you want and still have the parts you were born with.

that's easy to say but most doctors (except some cosmetic surgeons) won't take you through a non-essential surgery unless it's been determined that it would severely improve your quality of life. Sometimes surgery is a necessary thing in many situations even though it isn't essential to your body's functions.

and in this situation, a trans could make the argument that their life would be significantly improved for being another gender.
they can't do it on the fly anyway; most doctors who aren't hacks require that they spend atleast a year or more fully pretending to be the sex they want to be, and to go to counselling, before going under the knife.

I am thoroughly indifferent about this matter right now, as my boyfriend just told me he wants to be a girl. Does that make me bisexual? Hmm?
I tell you what it makes me...

Very confused.
