Dead Content To Anywhere

Dead content awaiting restoration.
Finding weaknesses and delivering it are two very different things. Do I have to go through the whole pill analogy again?

Sure, it's never easy to accept criticism, but perhaps you should consider meeting people halfway.

Force of habit, I suppose.

You're right. this feels unbelievably natural ¬_¬ I hope the dripping sarcasm did not wet your shoe.

I probably won't cry, but ignoring it sound good. Especially if you have something like "How the fuck should I know I had to pick up the rope?"

Don't worry, Doc, sometimes Des goes on one of his little rampages to find all the shit that's wrong with your stuff, but it's not like he's personally trying to offend you or anything. His pill unfortunately though is a rough and salty one to swallow. That sounded wrong. Let me try again

You don't need to necessarily revise everything people bitch about, but it's always good to know the areas that can be improved upon for the future. Things you can focus on a little harder than you expected. He's quick to call himself the best person for criticism on this site -- that's something I rather disagree with since that's a purely opinion-driven and unquantifiable thing to measure. Much like his critiques: they're extremely opinion-driven in some cases.

But it's always good to know every opinion on every end of the spectrum. From the good reviews to the really bad ones. They all help you focus on the important stuff.

So I wouldn't recommend outright ignoring him. Just take the notes and roll with it, take it all into consideration. It's not time-effective to redo everything from the beginning, so just improve as you go using the information you gather along the way.

I'm not entirely certain why you're so against using the Mapping Improvement Thread for your mapping help or Resource Analysis for your menu designs. It really would save you a lot of time. It's easier to work on the shit before you implement it than to revise it after it's already in use.

This page sucks.

On the topic at hand, I don't think the content of criticism is ever objectionable, it's the tone that causes problems. It's true that there are newbs who will take any criticism, even given out respectfully, and call it "Flaming" and shit, but that's not always what's going on. I know you tend to think that anyone who doesn't enjoy having a big rude rant pointed in their direction has something wrong with them, but the question you want to ask yourself is: Do I want the people to actually accept what I've said and make the changes? What recation do you want?

"Oh, those are good ideas. I'll think that over" or "Jeez! That guy can fuck off."

Now I invite you to go back several pages in the MotW thread and find the post you made after you played through Arc IV. There's something lighter about it...and you didn't sacrifice any of your stylistic touches. There's still the RANDOM CAPITALIZATION, the swearing, the gibberish stream of consciousness stuff. You didn't give up what makes you you, but there is a striking difference in tone. Read it and then compare it to these posts or your posts about Bruno's game. I'm guessing it's because you have some sort of respect for me and ArtBane, and that spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. Someone could tell me my game completely sucked ass and had to be reworked from the ground up, but I felt I was being treated with respect, that would influence my reaction to said criticism.

That's only if you're trying to go back to the Island. There's another exit to the pyramid. In the place where you talk to Bamihi or Madu with the red and blue chests, there's an exit south.
That exit let's me leave the pyramid, but I don't get any further than that. Actually, I do since after getting the "We'd get lost without a guide" message, the game doesn't force me to take a step upwards. This in turn allows to take another step downwards and after that I have the freedom to ascend the pyramid and even the sky.

Anyway, I don't know if I'm trapped in the pyramid or if I'm just being to stupid to figure out how to get out. I think I have played enough to form an opinion though.

The amnesia plot have worked great so far meaning I'm actually curious about the main character's background and it serves it's purpose as a drive. I think also you handle the freedom well. Early in the game I got two choices, one "good" sounding option and one less so. The actions the main character toke afterwards matched the choices, meaning if you pick the more questionable of the choices the main character will also take more questionable actions.

Since the Tesseract seems fun, I consider it likely that other optional tasks will also be fun.

Now to what I was less pleased with. This game has the same problem as other game with tons of characters that you may or may not have with you, the characters are a bit to quiet. I can understand that writing dialogs for characters in places where you may or may not use them can be a major pain though.

Skills seem to much on the useless or limited use side. Some skills seems downright useless such as the spear skill that increases the agility with 51% for two turns. Those two turns of boosted agility will not give you back the turn you paid with by using the skill in the first place. Other skills seem only really useful in boss battles, such as slip damage skills and lower enemy stat by a pitiful amount skills. Since I spend more time on the cannon fodder enemies that on bosses, I'd like to see a bit more emphasis put on them.

That's it. I'm killing myself.

Originally, You couldn't have a party of more than 4 when you reached this place, so I made the game let you leave the Pyramid if you had either Bamihi or Madu in your party. But now that you can find more than 3 characters, you may not get either of them when you're in the pyramid.

If you want to fix it now, head for an inn in the Dark Era and let one of your character, then inspect the pyramid and try to find Bamihi in a room in the 2nd floor.

After you get her, you'll be able to leave. If not, wait an hour and I'll upload a fixed version.

As for your comment about the characters being silent, well, that's something I can't work around. Sometimes, depending on which characters you have, some lines will be different, and some special events will open up (for instance, if you have either Mathias or Evelyn in your party while resting in Dao (a town of ArrRabtia), you'll be able to see special scenes for them.

About the skills, they get progressively stronger as your level in them increase. that skill that increases your agility by 51% for 2 turn will increase your agility by 100% eventually (I might consider making it two turns, though). You may lose a turn, and it may seem kinda useless, but it's enough if you need to do away with an enemy very fast. Same goes for the pitiful amount of stats reduction, eventually, you'll reduce the enemy's pdef by 5% with every hit. But you can't have that at the beginning.

I don't see how the speed up skill helps even with a 100% increase. You use one turn to apply the speed boost. Then the speed boost gives you a 200% speed which I think means you can act twice as fast ignoring the delay from human reaction and selecting the commands. Applying the speed boost and then acting twice will therefore take the same amount of time it would normally take to just act twice. Doing so you will get two actions you can use to damage an enemy. If you skip the speed boost and go directly for the offensive moves, you would also get two actions to damage the enemy during the same amount of time.

Town of ArrRaptia? I definitely cannot figure out from where you got that name.

I opened this chest, creepy music started, and now I can't move at all. I'm guessing I was supposed to open it from the other direction? That's what I get for trying to avoid spikes.

that was a VERY SMALL part. the big part was that your game was significantly better and more enjoyable.

if you guys don't want me to be mean, make a good game. that's all there is to it. :D

This is officially the stupidest thing a human being has ever said. Think about it, Des.

there's a fine line between trolling and making helpful legitimate comments.

but for me that line doesn't exist.

it's up to you guys to take away from my posts what you will.

Doc, I haven't been able to play this game much. I've been very busy lately and haven't found the time. Sorry bout that, but I will get on with it at some point.

*headdesks* Fixed the bug, reuploading now... Over 3 gigs worth of upload and counting...

And Des, maybe you ought to draw that line for yourself, Maybe it'll keep people from going "oh god not him again" every time they see you posting.

EDIT: Volrath I see you're playing with Soleil. I find it interesting how nearly nobody choose the character who looks most like the standard RPG hero (oddly enough, he's the one I use for most of my playthroughs, mostly because he has the highest strength, but I find it a bit difficult to use him since he lacks magic).

Out of curiosity, what characters are you using?

*facepalm*

Look, Des. Why are you like this? You seriously telling me that being like is your real nature, because being like that is doing you no favours. Your reputation on the forum is getting ruined because of how you treat people and you're demoralising both novice and verteran game-makers. You're runining the forum because you're being like this so much, so can you just get your act together for everyone's sake!

Doc, I have Soleil and Bahimi at the moment. I had Mathias and Ianto for the last section, but I didn't rerecruit them...I wasn't aware I could. I may have to take a trip over there if that's the case.

@Des: Even I find it a little sad that MotW clearly gets special treatment from you in comparison to just about every other game on the forum. You definitely have high standards, and I'm a little surprised the game lives up to them. After all, we still have some lacking maps in the earlier arcs (for now.....), a handful of faces that are inconsistent with the sprites they represent, a storyline that's almost completely linear (by choice, but still...) and other random issues that people have pointed out.

And I'm not going to pass judgment as hard as Bruno's, but it is a little disconcerting to think that every new project that gets attention seems destined to have numerous posts wasted in a debate that's more about your style of posting than the project itself....and in this case, you haven't even played this game yet!

You know what they say, Volrath. No such thing as bad publicity...

And I strongly recommend that you head back to the Dark Era and recruit more characters, the following dungeon will prove very difficult with only two characters. I may put a block later on to make sure it's impossible to proceed without at least 3 charas, but that would come in the way of freedom...

And reuploading is complete. Yay.

You mean the floating island? Already beat it...just the two of us.  :thumb:

Not sure how much more there is, but I'll grab some folks.
