That looks very nice. The sunrays may be a little bright but it's so much better than the way people used to use them - it's nice seeing more and more people using fogs and effects for atmosphere instead of dominating the whole map.
 
I personally dislike sunrays like that - mainly because they actually darkern the area they're shown over. It just doesn't look right. Might just be me though.

I like the graphic style: very crisp and detailed. It's hard to tell, but are those white things bullets? Also, is that a cut-scene or gameplay? Because it would be awesome if it were a side scrolling Spy Hunter styled game.

yes, those are bullets, I know it's hard to tell because there's no muzzle flare atm.

and yeah, it's a gameplay shot but the racing is only in one part of the game, and the rest is a platform-shooter :D

That looks awesome, man! But it must be said...theres nothing about those screenshots that don't scream zelda (not that thats a bad thing).

Anyword on a release date for a tech demo?
 
I'm hoping to release what I have finished by the end of the month. Just making a few finishing touches on the boss fight, and other small odds and ends to give a little more polish. The demo is from the beginning of the game, up to the first dungeon. I estimate completion time to be around 1/2 hour-1 hour, depending on the completion percentage and the player's puzzle-solving abilities. It's only the first dungeon, so the puzzles aren't too crazy, but still clever.

Those are mighty big shoes to fill. I'm just trying to release a game that's both memorable and fun to play. Thank you for the compliments though, much appreciated.
 
Heres a very early screenshot from something I'm messing about with basically gave it a terribad name, a load of trees, some fog and a fire and it didn't turn out all bad. Its very early and could be improved a lot but let me know what you think.

Darkest sure is an apt title for that, where are the trees there? It is just black, or very, very close.

Darkness in 2d games shouldn't just come from making the screen darker! It is all about choosing cooler colours instead of warm ones (pallette changes go a very long way), and knowing where and when to place your shadows, etc.

That's not to say it looks too bad, because it does look nice, it just doesn't work.
