Kick's I think it boils down to whatever is faster and easier when you have to make so many graphics like that. But imo I liked the look of the traditional pixles you had going on. Made it look crisp and "game-like"

I am currently going back to the beginning of the game to take some old dungeon and forest rooms that look bad and remake them. So.. I'm not currently making any technical "Progress", but I am definitely improving the game!

Here is an old map for the entrance of "The Bronzed Mines." It's... Well I suppose you could call it "Okay". But it is very dull, empty, and doesn't seem to have much atmosphere.

Ahh! Much better! =)

Either that, or edit the fog so it doesn't go over the black areas of the walls.  I like how the fog looks in the screenshot, but if a light patch were to move over a wall, it wouldn't look right.

This is a map of the full area of Green Forest so far, with a cruddily drawn representation of what it might look like in the future.

Large file, etc... There's many mapping errors that have been fixed while I took this screenie. Mainly the broken trees.

I hosted it on my old web host, might as well take advantage of it while it's there.

It still needs lots of detail adding to it, but the backbone is done.

@ Erichermit: That's a really big improvement. I would tone down the fog a bit. It's a nice addition but I think it's a bit too imposing. It's kinda hard to see what's going on.

@ Wyatt: The trees need to more dense. They aren't close together enough to be what I'd call a forest. Atm, it just looks like a field with lots of trees. Bring them all closer together. Try looking at Lisker's map up the page to get a better idea of what I mean.

Here's another part of my worldmap. This area is Eastwards of the previous world map I posted. The reason I didn't join the two up, is because there is a lot of land in between the two parts that doesn't appear in the chapter I'm currently working on.

This area shows Ventoinne Port (which is a bit of land the sticks out the furthest into the Desuna Fog, a very treacherous and dangerous part of the sea, all the ships have to dance around it to get to their loacations. It's colloquial name is the "X-Zone"), and the land between there and the Armadro Fort. The Armadro Pirates hang out in there, and it's your job to go and prove they're up to no good.

Anyway, here it is;

Heres test screens from my project (which ive been working on for almost 2 years now *cries* lol). keep in mind that these are extremely early screens as im still completing the tilesets. The character template is my own, which was inspired by disgaea games ^_^ As a result, npcs are no where near complete, Ive completed a small number of  male npcs so far and have only just begun on the female npcs too >_< so theres alot of work. I'm looking forward to creating a project thread here (as i only have one at creation asylum which i havent updated for a long time); I just want to get alot of my resources done before i open a thread though so i'll be able to get a demo out quicker.

w.i.p version of the first city in the game known as Senton: (everything here is my own work)
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/200/ ... orajd4.png[/img]

really early w.i.p version of a weapon store at Senton (tilesets are a mixture of rtp, Kp's work and my own).
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/1313 ... oralk2.png[/img]

a kingdom hearts tribute at the beginning of the game, the player will also be wearing one of the org 13 inspired coats so that i can reveal the characters at the end of the mission ...in style? lol. Its basically the outside of a huge facility which you have to infiltrate. I wont be adding any more to the buildings although i may add to the map to get rid of the emptiness if neccessary.

oh and this was what the city of senton used to look like before i threw the rtp style out in favour of my own (rtp and sci fi just dont match):

lol, i'm so glad i ditched that.

Wyatt: Those villages are tiny - are they going to be made bigger? Because at the moment thats not very realistic.

Bruno: It looks nice - there are a few bits where the maps dont join up properly, but I assume you'd already noticed that. Apart from that it looks really nice.

silver wind: Zanyzoras website (www.teamanti.com/rmxp) is a good place to get more modern tilesets. All the customs I got from there apart from the bar. I cant remember where I got that but if you'd like it PM me and I'll send it to you.

Darksora: The floor on that first map is extraordinarily garish, but apart from that I love the style you've got going there. Keep at it!

You assume correctly, but I thought that in map transitions, it would hardly be noticeable. I thought being anal about the map joins was more trouble than it was worth, you know?

EDIT: Does anyone know where I can find a decent file-sharing website that supports files of 4.7mb or bigger? I want to find somewhere where I can host the main part of my worldmap without it getting resized.

Thanks for the support. The fog moves, but I have also toned it down as it was a bit oppressive.

Your new screenshots are a great improvement over the old RTP, darksora. The only thing I can think of that the sword and gun cases in your store picture seem to have a bit of an off skew perspective

@wearesuperhero: thankyou. Thats easy to fix. :)

@erichermit: thank you. I agree with you on this. I'm always getting perspectives messed up :( I think i'll have to start again for those cases (they were done a while back now so it wont take long for me to do so). I take it, it needs to show more of the top or a bit of the other side.

@wyatt: All the village houses suppose to look the same in shape? :-/
@Dark Sora: Looks awesome :D

Here is the intro from my game. I'm using the RTP only in the game cause I'm no spriter XD.

The house is suppose to be a rebel hideout, hence the size. I think I'm going to replace the farm part of the map with some trees, not sure though.

And for those who are interested in my TBS:

$t3v0

Awesome Bro

for a days work, that looks fabulous! Overall though, it does need a lot of tweaking. It's got a lot of potential though, especially considering the pace you seem to work at :)

Thanks a lot for the kind words, $t3v0!

Besides the problem with the part that connects some of the ceiling tiles, what do you think I should tweak on it?

I also think that maybe the water color should be a deeper blue hm..?

Erichermit: Some of the tileset seems quite blurred while other parts are quite jagged and obtuse (Is that the right word? Ah well) such as the cave entrance. I think you should stick to one or the other. As well as that, as you said, the water needs to be darkened as it doesnt fit with the rest of the map. Apart from that, however, I think it looks lovely! I really like it, and I would be very interested in playing a game like that. What template would you use for it? I assume not RTP?

Mr. Mo: I dont think the door fits with the rest of the tileset - its not RTP is it?

Actually, it is RTP! I essentially redrew the RTP of a tileset in a different style! I also added a few more things at the end like some larger variations of rocks of stalagmites.

Okay so I see that I should change the Door Thing. What else looks wrong? Does the really tall and lanky squaggly looking stalagmite stand out of style a bit much you think?
