In Vengeance, there are only four variables that affect your battle damage dealt and taken: HP, MP, Weapon Equipped, Armour Equipped. That's all. No fancy "4 STR, 5 AGI, 17 ATK, with 15 DEX means I'll hit 27659.558 damage 42% of the time", but just "this weapon does 1-7 damage, so it will do 1-7 damage, minus the armour of my enemy".
You might think that this will make all battles easy... Well, I have several characters setup to test things in my game. I happened to use the wrong character against a boss, and... it took a while, and then I died. I had 10HP, and 10MP, with the basic weapon and armour configurations.
The boss had 540 HP and was taking 4 or 5 damage every time I attacked it.
If I had used a better weapon I would have hit higher than that.
Also, skills are important here. With enough MP and a good enough skill, it wouldn't take long to beat this boss.
Well, here's a screenie.
The strange floor pattern marks where the falling rocks are. Stand underneath one and you'll get hit. They take about 1/3 of your HP away. (So if you have 6/10 HP left you'll end up with 2/10, but it will never
kill you).
