Small map I made to test a tileset edit I made similar to the other ones done lately by Flamerfox, Euphony, and Malick.

Here is a link to the set: click (warning: 2.7mb filesize.)

It can be a little difficult to use, I imagine. Since I made it for myself. But enjoy, regardless. It's just copy and paste edits from the basic RTP so you're welcome to use it without credit.

/\ Wow, nice map you've got there. The tall grass works well with the mountains, or at least better than the short grass does.

@Panda: They are all seperate houses... They all have doors at the south, other than the bottom-left house which has a door on the left (marked by an event).
@Tibuda: Thanks :)

I made another quick test map. Uses the exact same tileset.

This ghost town looks a little bit intimidating.

The bed looks a little flat, but otherwise I really quite like that.

What did you think was strange about the tree trunk? It's a bit of a red tint on brown, but it is intentional. Does it really look weird? Hrm.

EDIT: Oh, you are probably talking about how it looks on the grass. Already taken care of. Added a bit of tall grass outline to the base of the tree, looks good.

Oh, alright. I kinda see what you mean. I'll make it slightly less bold.

I noticed a mistake/oddity in your screenshot. The upright cross-section of the floor has it's shading backwards. The NE and NW facing ones should be switched.

Ugly! Horrible! Go back into your eternal slumber! :)

@Avadan
I see what Prexus is talking about. The wall shade and the floor shade are opposites (on the "hang-off" parts).

XD You're one to talk, Unimaginitarian. :3 I really like what you did with the map though. Looks lovely. (May I ask which fog are you using?)

I love that isometic interior. It reminds me of the good old days playing a game called LBA ^_^...

Those maps like nice Prexus. It's nice to know you're still working with RMXP on some level, (unlike me :p)

Is it hard making the custom tilesets? I mean I only make RTP edit/composition tilesets...Maybe I should tackle an original. Anyway, It's nice, top marks.

Since I'm the one who makes Ethereal Dream's tilesets. It's only fitting I reply.

Anyway, I gotta say, I was really afraid of custom tilesets, but they aren't half as scary as they seem. After you get over the initial 'scary scary so much work' I find them to be rather fun. The hardest part for me, isn't so much making the tiles as is thinking what to put on each set.
But if you use existing tilesets as a reference (and google image search for inspiration when you're stuck) even that small little blip can be conqured. My only other major issue with it is....perspective---but that might just be me.

I'd say, in the long run, it's worth trying at least. It's not as scary as it sounds and it really opens you up to a lot of freedom. n.n (But remember, if you do go this way, it's going to be A LOT of work)
