The Food Thread

Fried. But not like American fried where the whole thing is white (what even do you DO?
frying an egg refers to pan frying it, but there are different ways to do it.

over hard = flipped 1-2 times, hard yolk, usually cooks white on both sides
over medium = flipped 0-1 times, soft yolk (but not runny)
over easy ("sunny side up") = flipped 0 times, runny yolk

Spinach and eggs is a great combination. Spinach, eggs and mushrooms is an even better combination. Albeit not being common in Costa Rica, I enjoy making omelettes, frittatas, and quiches. Also, one of my favorite dishes is "tortilla española", which is basically a potato and onions frittata.

Wow they all look so delicious :) My mouth is watering even in the middle of the night!

Also i tried cooking fried eggs. First I put some oil on the pan. Most of the times I put soy oil,
because soy oil gives the best smell for the fried egg. But sometimes I put olive oil or canola oils instead.
Anyway, leave the pan for a second then crack the egg. Then flip the egg 2 times to cook both sides
properly and put some salt on it.

you regularly make them in the microwave?? in my experience that only fills the house with sulphury stinks and covers the inside of the microwave with egg splatters.

I eat eggs all kinds of ways ... Most often, I'd say I consume eggs that I stir into ramen.
:d

and LOOOOOVVVVEEEEE devilled eggs. but so many people make em wrong. you gotta add brown or spicy mustard, finely diced onions and/or pickles, miracle whip or caesar dressing, and top with paprika. :d :d :d
you also put egg in ramen? We do that too in Korea. That's interesting.
What kind of ramen do you usually eat? (In here Korea, Most of the ramens are very hot and spicy.)

i don't put eggs in all my food, but shin ramen seems to taste the best with eggs.

Actually, anything that is packaged in a bowl works. the nong shim ramen bowl variations all are great with eggs.

Personally, I'd cook the ramen as I normally wood, put in an egg, stir it up, and microwave it an extra minute. (I like my ramen cooked thoroughly anyways). It's a bit more brothy.
I don't imagine microwaving ramen and a egg together, as I've heard that uncracked eggs explode. But I think I'll try some hardboiled egg and those ramen sometime.
(It seems shin ramen has gotten pretty expensive over here though :x)

pretty much the only ramen i can find in regular grocery stores in the U.S. are the crummy Maruchan or Top Ramen brands

but whenever i can find the time to go to an "ethnic food store", i'll jump on buying fancier ones.

I only ever make it on the stove ... Sometimes I'll add leeks or green onions or mushrooms or other things, but if I'm feeling particularly lazy, I just boil the ramen and stir an egg in. Makes a world of difference, rather than eating it plain :D

It's not a common American practice; none of my friends knew of it when I showed it to them. My dad lived in Japan for 3 years, and visited Korea frequently, and he taught me a lot on their culture and food and everything.

First thing I'd do on visiting Japan or Korea would be to stop in on a ramen stand and slurp down a whole bowl. It's p much my favorite thing ever.

btw: ramen tastes SOOO much better if you boil it in FLAVORED broth, rather than boiling it in water and adding flavoring later ;o
the noodles absorb the flavor and it's sooo much better.

also if you add a bit of soybean & sesame oils (not more than a tsp) to the water before it boils, the noodles turn out sleek and savory and glossy :d

...I've never done it otherwise
most of the instructions on my ramen say to put season in the water first as well.

Egg Fried Rice is common here (from Chinese takeaways. Not sure if it's a Chinese dish or one of those anglicanised "Chinese" ones like chow mein..)

We (or at least, my family) never flip eggs when we fry them, never heard of doing that. I guess all ours are "sunny side up" then.

I didn't know that Nong Shim also sells Shin Ramen and Bowl Noodles abroad. I'm surprised.

never been a big fan of over easy eggs ... they look nice, but they have more ... flavor, somehow, when they get a flip and some browning :d

Hey, hey. Watch it. Beans on toast is a traditional food where I'm from. Beans are also a staple of Mexican high-cuisine. As a matter of fact, most meals in Costa Rica have white rice and red beans.

that sounds like a random mishmash of foods slapped together by a high college kid on a budget,
not a staple

Awesome Bro

I'm eating beans on toast right now, with some scrambled egg... it's one of the best meals ever.

Ven doesn't know what she's talking about!

Awesome Bro

Ofcourse we do, lol, black beans for black bean soup, and I assume by red beans you mean kidney beans, which are used in chili con carne, and anything else I suppose, lol
