Soul Reaver 1: Nocturne Gospel

If you have not notice the title, well, now you'll all notice.

Since I won't make it to the deadline with the resources ready, I will delay the Project's demo release.

There's no point me uploading a game with a lot of Sprites that are missing & such and the fact I am just one girl trying to work in a huge project alone isn't easy, I just ask helping hand, I promise this won't be abandon, but until I get some help & probably a team, well, I'll keep you guys updated with the stuff going on in here >:3

That way, I won't have to eat my words =P

I'm a bit new here, but please don't go yelling at me if this comment isn't an "Oh Gawd, Anime !" Looks nice. However I would like to see a bit of animations in the sprites along with the Animated Portraits. As you see in the Image where Fianna is talking about the "New Sword" it just seems so plan to see the Sprite simply stationary. Even though the Portraits are present, it would still look appealing to see the Sprites animated, in poses, and such. This game is promising from the looks of things, however the Battles do not look appealing to any level what so every. I know it sounds blunt, however its merely because I am interested in the game. Adding some animated poses, and perhaps and original battle system could do wonders for the games over all look. Right now all I see is glam, nothing that is actually solid. The Character Portraits look amazing and the maps are nice, but thats it. Perhaps a CMS, a unique Battle System or something entirely unique to this game would be nice.

Also When the Portrait obscures the events on the window, you may want to think of either switching the position of the two Portraits, allowing room for the Fianna's arm on the Right Side of the screen.

Hate to be blunt, but I am just one person & I am limited to what I can do & such.

I can't script to fix up problem in compatibility. Sprite poses will take even longer, peciall when there's more characters, what your saying is to almost make everyone have a pose, but I amjut oe & it gets tirings.

I'll work on those other details later on for now, as bland as it is you say, people still want to play it, because it's ot for the graphics or the gameplay their after, but for the story. Then again, that' jut one forum ^^;;;

I understand that you may require help. If you need help with an Pixel Poses, I wouldn't mind making acouple poses if it lightens your work load. However take a look away from the project and remove all the Anime. Whats left? Without the Anime, which seems to be the games selling point I assume, besides the story which can not be seen visually by fans, the game looks bland. Sure working on a game is difficult but you make it seem as if one person can not make a good looking game, sure it takes time, but your drive should be to make the best game you can make. Try to make it as perfect as possible, and despite adding some extra time, I may still be set in the past, using RM2k3, but I know I have taken time to animate and create poses for ever situation. Not to say that you are not working hard on the game, but lets be honest, without the Anime the game loses its initial appeal.

Example:

http://www.excalistia.com/images/scs6.png[/img]

This is Excalistia by RPG. The game does not possess any Anime at all, has an interesting story and interesting features. Notice the poses are animated and the games the game looks fairly simple. Imagine if he added Character Portraits to this game, it would simply act as Glam. When you make a game you should establish the foundation basically things such as the Maps, Sprites, etc, etc. The extra details added my Sprite are appealing and fit with RPGs. In my opinion you are simply using the Anime as a selling point, and it seems tacked on to me. Sorry if I sound like an ass, I am just interested in the game this is just my opinion on aesthetics, everyone else seems to love it, but at times going the extra mile is needed. The story sounds good, but if you wanted to make an Anime or Lite Novel you could have simply made one with the Portraits, the Portrait themselves take away from what the game should give Players. You should be Playing the game, because it is well created, has a good story, and likable Characters. Not because it has colorful Anime Portraits. Please just hear me out a bit, I'm not saying remove the Portraits but simply remember that the game itself should win players not some Anime Portraits.

...Stick with the anime art, it looks incredible.

If you manage to pack everything with an intriguing storyline, good gameplay mechanics and pleasing music, those visuals will be chocolate fudge on the sundae.

I completely understand where Ashramaru is coming from though. To be honest before I joined this community my preferences were (and always will be) gameplay/features > story. I don't think Ashramaru was telling her(?) to take out the anime literally, but was asking her if she looked at her game without the "cool anime", what would it have that would make people think "WOW LOL TIHS GAEM ROX!111!!!!" besides it's story which you can't visually see.

But that's just my interpretation. =]

I don't see why she shouldn't make the "cool anime" her selling point. The visual art is an integral part of the gaming experience just as scenario and gameplay are, and is even more important one when you want to get exposure and attract fishes.

It's only normal to strengthen your strong points as much as you can before working on what you lack. So even if she has an average story, okay map design and so-so gameplay mechanics, people will stay for the art.

btw, I hope everyone here knows that the art is all ripped, I dont' want to burst bubbles but this is for the better, as I got in a huge argument becuase people who had originally thought my game's art was by me and then found it wasn't on their own and was trying to expose me as some kind of fraud, and then I told him to read the credits, instead he just started to flame me.

anyways, what people stay for a game is different on player to player basis, so you can't really just say people will stay for the art, Idk, I like story a good bit more, and plability, but w/e, like that, is just me.

and Fayte, right on the mark, yeah, I decided to take a step back and think about what my game would be like without the CG art, it kinda disappointed me so much I got discouraged from continuing it, and wanted to start anew, fresh with more skill, but thats a good thing I guess imo, then again, I've been on vacay these past weeks, but I'll w/e, lol.

edit-

and i'm going to shoot the intro now, lol, so I'll post the link in a sec XD

edit-

now, for those interested, the youtube vid has been uploaded.

sorry for the crappy quality, if you can, please please please watch it on high quality, I had to use my digital camra so the timing would remain on time, lol, anyways, enjoy, I had fun making it, and honestly I thought it came out alot better than the one for my game XD

http://img76.imageshack.us/img76/1772/6xt9ifqyr0zd7.gif[/img] Portraits aren't there for selling point, as mapping will til caught people's attention that or the sprites & Story.

It's a matter of perpective for everyone. Putting them in poses might be entertaining seen. =X I appreciate the help in it. Currently am exploring some I've found. Thanks for the comment =)

& Ming, => I see no Link to the Opening. Then again, there's still need some fixes >___>;;

oh, wow, thats weird, I could've swore I put one there.

as for the fixes, don't worry, they'll see them once they download the demo, the video on youtube shouldn't be all it has to offer, lol, look at Reive's video on youtube, the version he has now in game is so much better XD (same with mine a bit too :P)

Oh, yay, more innuendo puns in an RPG. Haven't had enough of those yet. :\

Does anyone else get the sneaking suspicion that Keinaru is gonna have a boner throughout the entire development stage? A lot of these things seem to say "my libido was in the driver's seat when I thought of this."

I hope that you're actually backing up all these pretty cutscenes and art with some good gameplay. Almost everything you've posted is essentially someone else's work rearranged a little and given a caption -- if the stolen anime graphics are supposed to be the game's major selling point, I swear to Jesus Kong I'm gonna beat you to death with your own aorta.

Graphic & Gameplay isn't important to me here . . . It's the story that backs it up.

That sneaky sensation is wrong actually, Oe has to be patient, it takes time on making the Sprites & Mapping, Rushing the whole thing will lead to an Unsatisfying Product, & the quality won't be great, and I know you wouldn't want to play a game that you expect to be great & becomes a letdown.

I wasn't referring to the time you're putting into the game itself. I was saying that a lot of these things seem like libido-ideas rather than brain-ideas -- most notably all the innuendo and the fact that you're going to be able to bang one of your female teammates if the mood strikes you. If you're getting off on your own game, you should probably reconsider your creative process.

(God, why are RPG girls always such sluts!? It's so annoying. :\)

(Personally I hate having cardboard-standup archetypes in RPGs, regardless of how few clothes they wear.)

Graphic & Gameplay isn't important to me here . . . It's the story that backs it up.

Then that story had better be damn spectacular if you want this game to tread water. Right now you've got cutscenes with someone else's generic anime work, mediocre gameplay, and a story. The story is the only thing holding the game up right now, so you had better make it spectacular.

However, since it seems that you're designing the storyline to fit CG scenes from a porn game, I'm not holding my breath for anything spectacular.
