Sony Screws Europe....

Due to a shortage in BlueRay diodes, Sony has today offically announced that the Playstation 3 will be released in Europe in March 2007.

The bit that gets me is how this changes the release for Europe ( as well as Russia, the Middle East, Africa, and Australasia.) and not for America and Japan.

What are your thoughts on this?

Do you think this will effect the Wii's chances? (In my opinion it's a blessing to nintendo as they will rule the market this christmas.)

Meh, it's not really that big of a deal. Remember how much the release date changed for KH2? You know, at first, it was gonna come out December, 2 years before it came out. I suppose so, I also remember the Original Release Date for Final Fantasy 12 was sometime in late 2003/4 lol.

Well, they'll wanna milk the Blu-Ray player as much as possible, since the PS3 kinda makes them...useless, since it plays Blu-Ray disks already. Their trying to make money, though I think it'll backfire on them and the smart buyer will wait for the PS3.

Really, what does it matter? If something goes wrong, like they have to recall them or it turns out to be overhyped, you won't be the one with the problem.

Does anyone remember what happened to the dreamcast? This could totally kill the wii in europe. It's a potential ticking time bomb. I don't know about you guys, but this could be a hidden mechanism for sony. I can already see people ordering american units just because they can =/

Honestly, who didn't see this coming with their pointless and expensive Blue-Ray thing (which I still don't even really know or care what it is).

It doesn't really change much. The Wii is still a better system (especially for the price).

Silly Despain, you can't say which is a better system with such absolutes. You can just guess, and almost undoubtedly be correct. Though watch out for 'YOUR JUST A NINTENDO FANBOI GAY' replies, which will spawn almost instantly.

And also, I think Sony happened to get a shortage because like Des said, Blu-Ray is kind of pointless and expensive, and if SOMEWHERE has to take a hit, it's gonna be Europe, not North America or Japan, since they're much bigger marketplaces for Sony.

Though I am also a nintendo fanboy, I can't agree with Despain. The fact that blu-ray is increasing slowly in popularity along with what happened to dreamcast scares me, though I doubt Sony can single handedly kill off nintendo. I just don't want some form of travesty happening =/ Though the wii will flourish for a while in Europe, if anything.

Thats true. I'm sure the PS3 is going to be riddled with Disc Read Errors and crap due to blu-ray diodes of poor quality being used to push more systems out on earlier dates, or any other numbers of problems and causes.

If you really have to have one when they're released in the US, look for an ebay auction with worldwide shipping. Sure, it'll be the wrong region, assuming that the PS3 will still have regions, but you'll have one. And odds are, the auction could be mine.

I think Europe was their key market, its the ONLY place the PSP outsold the DS. They fucked up again.
Doesnt matter, though, I'd be crazy to buy a first year console release from Microsoft or Sony, they always end up problematic. They probably wont get the decent version out UNTIL march 2007, really.

Europe doesn't seem like THAt big of a market. If the PSP hasn't out-sold the DS in Japan or US, what's the point of mentioning it? =/
