Show Recommendation Thread

Dexter!
Can't recommend it highly enough. It's smart, witty, funny, dramatic, -- just really well written. Plus the main character is a serial killer who you sympathize with. A lot of people seem to see themselves in him ;x

I watch True Blood every sunday too. It's so bad sometimes but just really fuckin great other times.
Latest season's been full of a little too much fangirlservice imo but still good if you fast forward through the gayer parts

yeah, the main thing that bugs me about Dexter is the creepy fans that are all "that Code of Harry sure is a good idea HUH??"

dexter is fantastic but the later seasons seem to be starting the same old same old. house is badass too, still going strong. Im trying to like true blood, the writing is well done but the plot just keeps shitting on the fourth wall and i have trouble taking it seriously :(

the first season of true blood is amazing b/c it's all a murder mystery. after that they keep focusing too much on sookie <> bill and ignoring the actual interesting characters. ok well bill is kind of interesting but sookie is not a very great main character. jason and the random bouts of extreme violence make me lol hard, they need to do more of it.
the latest season's arc involving terra and that insane vampire was just so great, and the little asides about erik's past as a nazi and a viking just carried the whole thing. i could do without the werewolves etc, i mean shape shifters kind of cover all of it don't they?

and yea dexter got into a little of a slump mid-way through season 2 thru season 3, but season 4 with john lithgow totally redeemed it imo.

oh and Rome and Deadwood on HBO were just so fantastic. especially Deadwood--one of my favorite series ever. I'm so sad they stopped it where they did. But I've always been a huuuge fan of westerns. timothy olyphant and ian mcshane need to get so much more work of a higher caliber. they are amazing.

i keep wanting to watch breaking bad and i never get the chance.

yea i was sad :( he was a good ass character
but i guess he'd run his course since they decided not to turn terra into a vamp

I miss the Sopranos. :(

are there any other neat on-going crime dramas? and by that I mean like the Sopranos, not Law & Order, CSI, NCIS, blah blah blah

i like csi ;x
well las vegas, not miami or new york, those are total balls
it's not realistic but a realistic forensics show would be p boring & horrible

I can even watch Miami in short doses and appreciate it for the cheesy entertainment it is, but New York is just awful

Ven, you need to see Pillars of the Earth. Ian McShane plays a dastardly ambitious man of the cloth and he's utterly phenomenal. The finale wasn't so good but the series is awesome. Great Ensemble cast. Starz made it and its highly recommended.

Another great show on Starz is Spartacus. Its fight scenes are really over the top gruesome but avoids being lol ridiculous. It's just brutal. John Hannah plays an absolutely captivating Gladiator Owner/Trainer. Its too bad he has to die, but he deserved every bit of it despite how interesting he is. Think Rome with 300 styled fight scenes and more full frontal and you have Spartacus.

Boardwalk empire also looks real cool. Steve Buscemi for once plays someone who is not an introverted loser that life just kicks sand at. Rather he is the king of Prohibition Era Atlantic City. HBO is sort of packaging it as their next sopranos.

i havent even heard of pillars of the earth. i've heard about spartacus though, need to watch that.
and hell yeah i'm gonna watch the shit out of boardwalk empire. people who've previewed the season are saying it's amazing. plus, steve buscemi.
