Sandfall - Tech Demo!!

Hmm...this thread's skin should be a default skin for the forum

DO EET DESPAIN

Anyway, I understand the 6+ games in the Sandfall chain now.

o.o if all of them get finished, you are gods.

I've been sort of watching this game forever it seems. I also remember getting a laugh out of the joke version you released a long time ago, which by the way I thought was great. Now though, constant upgrades and changes. Are you this much of a perfectionist away from the computer world? Anyhow, I'm not going to bother blabbing out random compliments on anything in the project. I'll just say this is one of the few that have kept my attention for a very long time now, and with anything that contains the effort and attention to detail this has is bound to be great.

hopefully they will! i haven't really done much with Nomad in a while but i'm hoping to get back on it pretty soon. Des is currently without any internet so i'm hoping he's taking the time to work on Sandfall itself.

he's less perfectionist and more OCD offline (nerdy fat neat freak).

hey dudes and dudettes.

i have a pretty cool update. i haven't had a lot of free time since i've been working so much lately, but a while ago i had a weekend off and spent pretty much the whole time on sandfall.

the battle system is more or less complete. i don't know when i'll be able to share a demo but hopefully it will be as soon as possible. I really want some feedback on this motherfucker. I can't wait. :(

@About Serren's Sprite
I personally like number three and five best.
It is hard to comment on the appearence, as it is RTP, no offense.

RTP always has the same look.
Even though, it's admirable what you accomplished here, you managed to kinda run from it's boring feel with your pallete.

From what I read about the game's concept, background, storyline and Serren's profile, I think his appearence (clothes and hair, of course) suits really well. As a matter of fact I don't think it could get any better.
This shows him like a normal civilian, the way I presume he is, nor a warrior, or mage, or Super Powerful Being. A normal civilian.

I'm sorry if my feedback isn't what you were looking for, or if it makes no sense. I'm not an Artist, so... I commented based on my view of the game, which, could be totally different from yours.

I'm looking foward for this game's releasement.
I wish you best of luck with it.

That is nice to hear, actually. Serren's intended to look like a more or less normal guy, which is why I was remaking his sprite in the first place. The other one looked way too "special".

Anyway, here's a treat for you guys since I managed a few minutes online.

http://bb.xieke.com/files/hazaga_screen.png[/img]

It's a screenshot of a city in the game. There's no NPCs or anything, so the streets look very empty, but it shows off some of the additions to the tilesets that I have made.

The additions look great; I've always liked your palette.

I'm assuming this is a WIP!  The sand next to the road tiles looks strange.  You're probably going to add a border, right?  The doors look very good in my opinion.  A little pixelated, but it fits the style.  One suggestion I have is to darken the edges of the buildings so you can easily differentiate between two buildings next to each other.

Good work can't wait for a demo!

EDIT:  I'm still REALLY not feeling the opaque shadows.  Something needs to be done if you aren't going to set them at 50% transparency.

I was going to suggest that you make a better transition, rather than add a border to the brick walkways but seems you've beat me to it. Great minds think alike I guess.

Nice, nice.  Although I would change up the shape of the border a bit.  Kind of gives it a tileish feeling.

I don't know the specifics, I plan to do some more about the thread-skinning sponsorship perk when I get back (possibly  a sponsors-only subforum again but for the purpose of testing the css stuff).

But um...update on the battle system. I've redone the way techniques are handled last night, it is totally kicking ass and there are twelve skills planned (before there were five). I need to redo their effects on the badguys but still hopefully I'll be able to show off this sucker the day I get back.

Not 100%. Prexus made the HUD. So like 90%.

But yeah, it's taken a lot of time and effort.

Anyway, important announcement. My laptop recently died on me. What does this mean? I lost everything. I'm abandoning the project for good this time.

...

Not really. My laptop really DID die on me, though. I was smart enough to have a backup. It's about a week old, so none of the tech skills are made (the one in the screenshot up there, for example, including the awesome characterset animated poses I made that go with it). It puishes me back a bit on the battle system, but I should be able to remake all twelve of the skills in one day or so when I have free time.

Unfortunately, I don't know when I'll be able to buy a new laptop (hopefully sooner rather than later). I'll still be online and shit because I have computer lab access and work, but I can't install RMXP on these machines.

It sucks, but I am SO FUCKING GLAD I have a backup this time because starting over would be a total bitch. :)

After reading through this topic, my heart skipped a beat right there

Anyway, this game looks great. I love the graphic style and the way all the sprites integrate so well with everything else. Hopefully technical difficulties won't set you back too far.

Okay guys and gals, check this out. I've got the battle system tech demo released tonight, just like I've been promising on irc all day. Let me break down for you exactly what this thing is: it's a couple of maps with enemies and the battle system, which is more of less complete. Remember that it's just for feedback on the main systems, so it's rather brief.

I'd love as much real feedback and criticism as I can get for this. Any questions or anything, just ask.

:fro: Click here to download! :beard:

Also, check this out. I've just started up an open roleplaying game set in the Sandfall universe. Go ahead and check it out- and it's possible that your character will be adopted into the Sandfall canon- and maybe even will be mentioned or appear in the game itself. Check it out here.
