[RMXP]Wendia: Silentium Of Ventus

I got your PM, but I haven't had time to reply to you(Work has been hell lately, because of the tourists :S)

I will PM you what I have in mind.

Okay, I know this is a double post, but I have something important to say.

Most of you have been waiting for a demo for a very long time. I was actully going to release it next week, since all the puzzles and stuff was done.

However, today, when I got another puzzle from another person, my computer crashed. It was probably a virus in it, or something else. The truth is, the computer dosen't work right now.
I don't know how much of the game that can be saved, but I hope it can be saved. I've worked so hard on this game. The game was a memory for my mother, who passed away in cancer one year ago. I've been working alot to finally finish the game. For now, the future of the game is in mystery. At the moment, everything is gone. The script Jens made custom for the game. The art ellenor made for me. Everything is gone right now. I hope for gods sake that everything can be restored. I have an old backup of the game, but it's really, really old.

Im glad for all the people that's been supporting the game. I want to thank all of you. Hopefully, the game will be restored. A for now, I don't know...

Huh? :blank: What the? Don't tell me it was my puzzle?
I just tripple checked with three different anti virus softwares and and an online virus scanner and they all said the file is fine. So there should be no problem....

Aww I really hope your game can be saved, Shadow. I understand how hard it can be since I once lost one of my games, too, which I worked really hard on. That's why it's always good to have a recent back-up.

But hopefully, it's still here. We all support you and your game, too. ^^

My dad thinks it's the file, since the problem occured after I installed the file on the computer without scanning it first. But I don't know really. He think the whole RMXP program is the blame really...But I've been using it for 5 years without any trouble.

Yeah, well... I would guess I would suspect it too when it occured after a certain program was installed. But since I know that the file is virusfree (I really am carefull whith this stuff) I can assure you that it can't be my file who caused this.
Damn, I would love to help you somehow. But repairing computers from afar is really difficult.... How exactly is it not working?

Well, everything runs very slowly. I can't access anything on the Control Panel(Mouse Setings, System settings). It says that I don't have any acess to it. And everytime I restart the computer, it runs more and more slowly. We suspect it's the processor that's the problem, but I don't know how the hard-drives are doing.

i've never had a processor go out, but have had plenty of viruses :)
for it to suddenly 'mess-up' i think virus. try entering windows in safe mode.
i can't remember the best anti ones i've used so i googled

"Before attempting to remove malware you must switch off System Restore as back up files will be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

Then beef up your security. Its easier to prevent malware getting on to your sytem in the first place rather than trying to remove it. All the following programs are free for personal use;

You need to install one anti virus;
http://free.avg.com/ (i have used both of these, they work good. try running a thorough scan of a virus software and spyware)
http://www.avast.com - Avast Antivirus

You need all three anti spyware programs;
http://www.lavasoft.com - Ad-Aware SE Personal anti adware (i think i used this one time, spyware can be as harmful as viruses)
http://www.safer-networking.org - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware"

if you can do anything on your computer, try saving all game stuff to a cd, or transfer it to another computer. sorry this happened, reminds me i need to back-up mine again (but it's on my and my brothers so that helps)

Hard drive. If your description was technically accurate, I'm 90% sure. Just in case I'm right, my advice would be be BACK UP YOUR DATA because that drive will fail soon. I had to run data recovery on a failed drive Saturday. A sector-by-sector recovery on a 250GB drive which is worn out at that will take about a week to run, and only recover a marginal portion of its original contents (if the platters are bad, which in my client's case, is the case).

Listen to the computer. See if you hear anything louder than usual, because if its the hard drive it will be louder than normal, as the motor spins faster than it wants to in its old age. If you hear a clicking sound, the computer won't boot because that indicates motor arm failure. Clicking is bad.

If it completely fails, but no clicking sound, you can usually replace the chipboard on the bottom to bring the drive back to life. Just need an identical drive.

Or, I could be way off. Hope it helps.

EDIT:: I need to pay more attention. Once I re-read the control panel part, it's malware of some sort. Sorry.

That really sound awfully like some sort of virus... I would suggest to try and save the data you have onto a usb stick just in case and then try to run some antivir software.
Damn, this really is a bad thing to happen. I hope you can save your data. I lost a game because of a system crash back in the past and it really is not funny.

The problem is that when I've started the computer, I can't even open the RMXP folder. So I can't even copy the folder. My father and I tried to delete the file I got from you Dalton, but the computer wnet so slow, that we couldn't even delete it. It was the same when we started it in safe mode. We couldn't even open the RMXP folder that contains all my projects.

Still, my father thinks the file has infected whole RMXP, and he wants me to remove it when the computer is fixed...

That sure is strange, since I have the file as well (obviously) and my pc doesn't show any problems at all... So either this is just a big coincidence or... I can't think of anything that it could be else.
That really gets on my nerves, since I can't be sure if it is my fault or not. :sad:

well, shadow, if you had done any internet searching you could have got something.. that's what got me a while back, searching google for something and it stored a cookie which activated something esle which allowed it to download something that took over my computer... in which case it's malware/adware, if you can get a program to get rid of those try that.

Well, All I can say that the game will be on hold until my computer is fixed. I will try everything you guys have told me, and if it dosen't work, I will leave it for repair somewhere.

In the mean time, I will work on something else. When my computer is fixed, I will go straigtly back to this.

Okay, nearly a month has passed, so maybe I should give an update on the situation.

My computer works somewhat. The CPU level is always up on 57% or something, but I can use the computer. However, I need to re-install RMXP, because when we re-installed windows, I forgot to add the RGSS2 files to the backup UBS(Stupid me >_<)

Other from that, it pretty much works, but Im planning to fix a new computer soon.

Nice to hear, that you are on your way back.
I'd really love to help you out with stuff, that got lost in the process, when I find the time (things get a bit more dificult soon).

Okay, XP is up and running now, and the project works :). The only thing I need to repair is 2 autotiles that I can fix in 3 seconds or something. Other from that, the project is alive again :D

:toot: :cheers:
Welcome back!! :)

So one thing...
Does the minigame I made before the crash still run? (Just want to make sure that it was not the cause)

I don't think I have it anymore. I deleted it when the problen occured, and if I had it left, I don't think I saved it on the UBS before I re-installed Windows.
