Awesome can't wait to see what happens I just finished Chapter 1-4.
This would probably have to be the best game I've played on this forum.

So I've been working on this mini-game/"puzzle" in Chapter V(well, it's part of the story, except played through instead) for some more game-play experience that I promised.

The idea is this:
You are sneaking out and in of the city (the movement will be automatically and cannot be controlled, though), with strands of 6 guards' hairs, meaning you can transform into them (labeled guard A, S, D, Z, X, V). So along the way, there will be real guards (with about 3 squares of view range [at night]) who recognizes either one of those guards, and know that they are not supposed to be here. So if they see you as the guard that they recognize (which is the letter that they will be labeled as), or they see you transforming while in sight, or they see that Reivier and Lunair are in the form of the same guard at the same time, you are busted.

TRANSLATION:
When you get in a real guard's range, the guard alphabet of either Reivier or Lunair's guard form cannot be the same letter as the guard. Additionally, Reivier and Lunair cannot be the same guard while in sight, or transform while in sight.

The trip will be from the Graveyard -> Northern Royal District -> Royal District -> Middle District -> Southern District -> Gates

and then Gates -> Southern District -> Middle District -> Royal District

Real maps of the setting will be used.


It's a headache making it, but it should be challenging. I got the first trip done, working on the second trip back to Royal District at the moment (first trip = Lunair only. It's a lot easier when you only have one character to take care of. ._. I got owned when Reivier joined, that bastard).

Mm, just a bit of news:

I have decided to split the originally intended part A and B of chapter V into chapter V and chapter VI instead. That way, I should be able to release chapter V in about 2-3 weeks or so. (Although playing through some earlier chapters myself today, I was rather embarrassed on how many things in chapter 1-3 that could've been executed better. . . I might go back and try to fix some. I swear I've improved in cut-scenes and stuff in this upcoming chapter. D: )

Anyhow, chapter V is estimated at the moment to be about 30-45 min in length or so, although it's still a bit too early to tell.
 
I just got to the part where you fight the thief as Lunair. I am very impressed :D I couldn't stop playing at all. Excellent job!

EDIT: Just beat the thief! The bat form freaked me out with him circling around me :D
Just finished chapter 4 too. LOVED it. One of my favorite chapters.
I can't wait for the next one! Keep up the good work!
 
No worries Speedpaw, it should've been seperate chapters to begin with. :> I miscalculated the length at first.

Wewt, glad you enjoyed it! :> Chapter IV is my personal favourite too, mainly due to the Chapter-end flashback cutscenes. The bat freaks me out too when Lunair doesn't have enough energy to throw venom gusts on it, heheh. But it has very low hit points, so if it's gusted or trapped, it = dead.

Chapter V is certainly coming along nicely now. I just test-played what I have right now, and it is a solid exact 30 minutes in length - and that is pure cut scene plus one non-stop mini game, so no walking around and wasting time is included in that. I am now making the free travel aspect part of the chapter now which comes after that, in Aeria (by the way, I'd suggest to not download the Aeria city tour now, just so that it'll be new when the chapter actually gets up. :> Although I will change things in the actual chapter in terms of the city from what's in the map demo right now). And that part plus what comes after that should range between 15-30 minutes more in terms of length, so I am expecting a total of 45 min - 1 hour ish length for the entire chapter. Perhaps more if you choose to hang around the city more, who knows. :>

And as much as I'm tempted to give out a few more screenshots, I want to save everything for the actual play. So just take my words that progression is being made. :)

I am truly amazed with how far you went with this game. Not only did you do an outstanding job, and have clearly surpassed my intentions on how far and how good you could make a RPG with Rpg maker XP, and yet you give me inspiration to try my best to make an rpg, Outstanding job. Truly worth it.

I can't wait for the next chapter, I had a lot of fun with this game, despite the whole...losing my save file thing. Hrm.
 
Well, I'm not sure if you are aware of this but when you have a basket of bread and you press enter to make it 3 loafs of bread, it just says, "You Received [39]". If you were not aware of it.. I'm just making sure.

It is cool,and i liked a lot,but,I AM TIRED OF GAMES USING THE DEAFULT ANIMATIONS OF RMXP,everybody can make very much cooler and softy animations

unless this and the fact that ya cannot see your hotkeys'n battle,i liked it alot!

Ah, the default animations. I will eventually get to replace them, probably. :) The hotkeys are displayed in battle, by the way. Thanks for the feedback.

This game is great. The story is really compelling, and the charaters are very defined.

I don't like the battle system though. Not that it's bad, i just don't personally enjoy it.
 
I think I've found a glitch too, though I'm not sure if this has been addressed. In Chapter 3(was it?), while you and the sheriff are searching for the elusive thief and you go up north(the map where when you talk to the sheriff, he'll jump down and move away, I think. )There will be a short dialogue between Reivier and Lunair, about something that it's not the wrong way, thing is, Lunair is in prison. And when you keep trying to go north, she says "It's not the wrong way." But as I said, she's in jail... :-/

Has this been addressed? I saw it a long time ago but I forgot to report it.. ':|
 
hey, according the ending movie, it seems like Lunair didn't have a happy ending right? change form to a bird and fly away...
It's pretty sad, and I don't like it!
Can you change the ending of Quintessence, I really don't want that ending! >.<

Thanks for the feedback! I made the battle system's first encounters much easier for a better learning curve this upcoming release, hope that'd help.

And S3nkai, that's just an ending music video; not the ending. :> Don't worry. Though I'm not disclosing whether the ending is happy or sad.
