PS3 vs Xbox 360

PS3 vs Xbox 360

So which's the best? As much as possible defend your answer.

I'll start it!

PS3 coz its the best! duhhhh! a hyped system? Obviously PS3 is the best^_^ .
Plus its made by Sony:thumb: (assured quality!). In the near future the PS3 will be able to play game 3x bigger that what Xbox 360 due to its Blu-ray discs8-) (and they're scratch proof!:thumb: )
The PS3... the pinnacle of the gaming systems today:yes:

(ummm, try your best to keep a line between debating and fighting. I don't want people to get hurt, ohh yeah this is intended to be debate like.)

PS3 is also over-priced and lacks any real good games, don't forget that!

Its overpriced because it has far more than the xbox 360 has; not to mention the blueray player itself is a 600-1000 dollar value! And even at the price the PS3 is at, they are STILL losing a ton of money! People should be more greatful ^_~

Oh! And dont forget the PS3 has only been out for 4~ months! Of course it doesnt have any real good games yet! THe 360 has been out for over a year and there isnt a game on it, that "I" find worth buying. Oblivion blew and Gears of War was just a boring arse game that even my friend who LOVES first person shooters couldnt bare to play more than once!

Wheres the Wii? :(

I don't really have a favourite, I want them all, cause they all own! :)
Reasons? This is why:

Wii: Zelda, Mario etc.
Xbox 360: Gears of War, Fable etc. (Don't like Halo much...)
PS3: Resistance, FFXII, Heavenly Sword, Assassins Creed etc. (No good games my arse!)

So far I'm finding all of them but the Xbox 360 to suck pretty hard. And the Xbox isn't far off of it, and the only reason it's not in the crappy group is because it's been out longer.

PS3 has ONE exclusive game coming that I even remotely look forward to, and that's Metal Gear Solid 4.

The Wii has some interesting looking franchises on it, since you know, it's nintendo, but quite honestly, the thing just angers me. It has great appeal to most everyone because parents with the paranoia about childhood obesity buy it for their kids so they'll at least wave their arms about while they sit around rotting their brains, not to mention the thing is cheaper, and Nintendo seems to actually have the brains to keep people decently well supplied with the thing. Nintendo has had the best launch out of any of the recent systems (rivaled closely by [quite surprisingly] the original xbox launch, who knew?) in terms of hardware sales, and I respect them for it. Not that I ever want to touch the Wii. What I've heard about every damn game anybody I know how played on it is 'tacked on'. Why am I waving my arms about? Sure you can aim by pointing at the screen, and this puts you in the game, but honestly? If I wanted that I'd roll down to the arcade, and play some damn Time Crisis, because that thing actually HAS a gun rather than something that feels like a slippery remote control that I'm apparently pretending is all sorts of various weaponry.

The Xbox has some interesting points for it. For one, the Arcade. Numerous cheap fun little distraction games are right up my alley, not to mention they released Worms, Castlevania, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That's amazingly badass. I admit I haven't exactly looked at Wii's virtual console offerings, but to be honest, I'm more impressed with Microsoft popping out things that are new, and when they pop out something old, they make sure it's one of the best old things that existed. (btw I know Sony's little PS1 game selection is pretty terrible so I won't even bother) Aside from Arcade, the marketplace is a pretty shameful bid for money, making you buy points in 1000 increments abouts so you HAVE to have some left-over to have waste your money is pretty lame. Now onto the games... I like Gears of War, the game amuses me, looks great, and has a chainsaw bayonet. It also hasn't really gotten old. Armored Core 4 is great because you know, I've played every other Armored Core game through to the end, and that alone means I'm pretty hardcore at those games (despite it being 'number 4' it's somewhere around the 12th). Oh and it's better for Xbox considering I like the Xbox Live setup and the fact that I can talk to people is quite nice. Let's see... Well, I've heard other games were good but haven't really played them.

Like I said. The Xbox 360's got like one actual point I hold above the other two, and that's the Arcade. Other than that, I hate the wii because the concept is dumb, and the PS3 is about as expensive as plutonium. Not to mention, who the hell needs a Blu-Ray player right this instant? Wait until they're NOT $1000 each, then maybe consider upgrading your movie 'experience' to HD.

IMO PS3 is the best.

I've got a 360 and I like it as a system but i've never really felt comfortable with it as a system, the only thing i like about it is the achievement points ( a stroke of genius) but other than that, the machine is loud and unreliable, the controllers are stupidly big and weighty with those big bulky battery packs on the back and the list of games still doesn't really appeal to me that much.

Halo 3 is the pinnacle of over hype, if ever there is a PS3 V.S Xbox 360 debate or XBOX 360 V.S anything debate it's always used as some solid concrete fact that it's going to own the world. well, I think I will reserve my opinion for when the game actually comes out, and if it's anything as bad as Halo 2 I'll just leave it to the fan boys ;)

The PS3 feels a lot nicer to play, it feels less rushed and a lot less like it could break down and start a house fire at any second. I understand the list of games isn't that impressive, but it's still more impressive than that of the Christmas cracker toy that is the Wii. (does no one else play that console and just feel like they have been sold the latest novelty item that in 3 months will be at the back of your wardrobe?)

But that's just my opinion, so feel free to slam me if you wish but I think anyone who doesn't have all 3 consoles has no real right to judge which is the better console due to bias (regardless if you played your friends or anything like that)

i have all and I prefer the Wii overall, but I like the Xbox 360 better than the PS3. Mainly because I prefer user friendly interfaces, and the more you can do with something means its no longer a true gaming system. I also enjoy rumbling controllers and, as a perfectionist, nearly didn't buy the PS3 because it doesn't have it. The PS3 is region free, which is great though.

I like both, but prefer the 360

Blue-Ray discs are scratch proof? *this makes me want to try scratching one of my discs now*. There are really no games I am interested in on the Xbox360, so I gotta go for a PS3.

What? I find the PS3 couldnt actually be any more simple to use... it's just a straight bar sorted into media types... connecting to the internet is a breeze, setting up all your accounts is fool proof too.

The thing I am pretty fucked off about is that not only do they make Europeans wait longer, then pay more... but then remove the freckin PS2 out of it to rely on this shitty emulator.

Surely theres some sort of rule against providing different regions with inferior specifications, in fact its bollocks. The only game we and the lads at uni would play would be Pro Evo, and now it runs like shit on my PS3... beyond playable... they better fix it in an update very soon.

A thing that has personally striked me is how my online experience is so much more smooth on the PS3. Resistance, 40 players, all different connection speeds, zero slowdown. Motorstorm, 12 racers, mental speed anfd again no lag. Pro Evo on the 360 dragged every game I played as did the other games I played on it.

As for games, no killers yet, but if you like the more sociable games, Virtua Tennis 3 and Fightnight on either system are both quality for me. Plus downloadable full tekken game with pretty nice graphics for 6.99, can't argue with that if you like beat em ups.

Not posted in a while, but I have to when I see a post like this.
I have seen and played both of them side by side on identical TVs. I'm not trying to be biased so listen to what I'm saying. You all have you own opinions, I respect that, but I don't respect SONY.

Firstly, PS3 claimed to have '4D' graphics, it doesn't even have bumbmap (sp?) graphics (individual bricks, textures on the floor, sand grains etc./whatever).

Sony's best feature for the PS3 is the Blue-Ray. I've known people who've jsut brushed a hair of a disc and its stopped working. The Blue-Ray is why it costs so much, but you have to buy extra cables to allow Blue-Ray to work, it doesn't come with the PS3?

PS3's 'menu' (the icons at the top which you can switch between) can't be updated to add more and on switching to videos/music (can't remember which one) you have to wait for all of them to load before you can move to the next slide.

The PS3 is quiet. Because it hasn't got enough fans. My friend warmed up pies next to his PS3 (properly), and I'm not joking. So far the PS3 has caused 300 fire related deaths!!

Next we've got the 360. All bugs have been fixed. Aparently you can get a new free one if yours breaks or 'melts' (which has never happened to mine, which was bought from the first batch).

The 360 has constant updates online. Arcade games, demos, trailers and expansion packs all online. A new dashboard slide is being added soon. It has a 20GB hardrive and there is going to be a 120GB hardrive released soon, which allows files to be transfered.

As to the games. All of them have amazing gameplay and graphics. Every brick, every grain of sand can be seen seperately. The door knobs can even be seen from the side. In the new game Mass Effect all the facial features move and and wrinkle; the conversations are also realtime, which allows you to interrupt people; not just talking over but pulling them by their collar and shouting at them.

MSN is also coming to the 360 soon and a mini keyboard which attaches to your pad.

Oh and you can beta test games *cough*Halo 3*cough* online to make the game even better before it comes out!

I think thats most of it, but I forgot some of it while writing it all...

Oh and of course you have to listen/watch this video. It pretty much explains quite a bit of what I've just said.

Hype !=Best
Thats an awful argument. Especially given the hype towards the PS3 has been negative for the most part.

Size doesn't mean better. I also seriously doubt that it will ever have games 3 times the size as the 360, given the size of 360 games at the mo.

No they aren't. They scratch as easy as any other disc.

What I find amusing is how people seem to think that owning one of the three consoles is the absolute end of the world.

...Unless of course you are a PS3 owner by which case it has most likely burned down your house and killed you by now - Based on Svykals post - By the way I'd be interested in seeing a news report on this from a reputable source, I would imagine that would make headlines, instead I googled it and sound 1 story of a man apologising for that as a hoax... 1 man.

At the end of the day, they are all generally gonna turn on and play games, I doubt there gonna spoil anybodies lives...

As only a Wii owner, I thought I'd comment on this. So far, I lean towards the 360. The PS3 was extremely over-hyped, the price tag is just too high for something most people see as a gaming console, and they are losing they're once exclusive properties. DMC4, FFXIII, and GTA4 are all coming out on the less expensive, more established 360. Their manager of videogames division has stepped down as well, meaning a new direction for the company. On the contrary, I have seen so many things connected to a PS3 than should be legal. I've played Resistance online too and its very fun, but so is Gears of War on Xbox Live. No rumbly in the controller isnt the end of the world, but it sure is awkward not having it. I think PS3 was built for sheer power (as its beautiful graphics show), and to amaze the mainstream people who don't know anything about electronics. That's the way I see it.

On the other side, the 360 is a well built machine as well. The system has a nice set of features if you can take advantage of them, and for people who dont already own one already, the Elite is the perfect reason to buy one. Halo 3 will undoubtedly be their biggest title, but I'm not a huge FPS fan. Halo is now a AAA title, and it must deliver or exceed everyone's expectations. The 360 controller is perfectly fine by me, and I found playing GoW very easily after learning the control scheme.

The games for both consoles are another thing I'm looking forward to. The new KH, MGS4, Army of Two, GTA4, DMC4, among others are making me think about buying either console.

Time to play some Wii.

It's so simple (for me at least): Metal Gear Solid 4 is for the PS3, therefore, if I could pick only one, I'd pick the one with MGS 4. PS3.

EDIT: Oh and Tekken 6. That game has more style than a 1930s American silver screen goddess.

@Calibre - Well I thought it was real, but if it real was a hoax; oops got my facts wrong...
But the PS3 do get really warms, the pie thing was true.

I'll stick with my regular Xbox thanks.
IMO the Xbox 360, PS3 and even Wii (to a degree) are too expensive. Yes they are good for their money, but it's a little TOO much money. The latest console I own is a PSP for portability and homebrew.
I'll most likely buy a Wii as I like the control system (which i'll most likely hook up to my computer). I think the 360's got some good games, but most of them are out on the PC. And I prefer PC games (can hook any controler up + Upgradable).

About Blu-Ray/HDDVD:

It's a war, between Betamax + VHS all over again.
IMO, HDDVD is going to win. Blu ray is more expensive and less compatable (some bluray discs don't work on some players, like the SD-HC format)
PS3 Comes with Blu ray, wheras Xbox360 comes with a normal DVD. Granted, they already have a 2-DVD game, but when HDDVD becomes cheaper, people could probably buy an internal drive (if microsoft choose to realease them) and those Hardcore HDDVDers can already buy a HDDVD drive (but external) plus a '360 for around the same price as a PS3.

Of course, this war will be going on a while now. but PS3 sales have dropped 30%, and they've been forced to withdraw the 20GB version already...
