Post What's on Your Mind

Also update on me for anyone who cares:

I STILL DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT IS HAPPENING

Job apps I thought were closed are now open again. Didn't get a dead cert job. Got offered another. Might be in Walsall for six weeks. Might be in Ireland for six weeks. Might be in both. Might have three weeks holiday in the next six weeks, it depends. Might not be at this place at all.

Might pack it all in and invest my wealthz in game making. Or in opening a store.

Might have a business partner for said store.

Might not.

I'm all over the place at the moment.

But FF7 man

That'll make anything else in my life miniscule

I will spend all year playing the shit out of that shit

I'm happy for this and they are making another Star Ocean, which is my favorite franchise hands down.

Fallout 4 looks OK. Doom feels about right, but I don't know yet. I like the idea of the level editor and map distro for all players to make crazy ass maps

Holy fuck. Yes. FF7. Yes.

This will actually encourage me to buy a PS4.
It's getting difficult.
Kingdom Hearts 3, FFXV, FFVII.

I didn't want to buy a plebbox ever again but I may have no choice if it continues at this rate.

I'll be waiting for the PC version.

I think this remake is a total mistake. Many people who played the game back in the 90s and loved it would find it boring to play by today's standards, pretty much the entire game will be changed to survive that. It will also be a projection of Nomura's characters, not the ones that we shaped for ourselves with the voiceless dialogue options.

The original Final Fantasy game on the NES is difficult, broken, very hard to play and can be quite boring. When it first came out, kids who played it loved it because there was nothing better. Standards were very different back then. Same deal with FF7, its success was due to the time it was released, not because it is a good game.

Another popular example would be Goldeneye 64, amazing game at the time, play it these days and it's boring as fuck. I am able to play FF7 and complete it fine and have an okay-time, but I'm pretty sure most people who enjoyed it back then will not get the same enjoyment and will stop playing part-way through.

This remake will be Nomura's FF7 story tarted up for modern systems.

Oh hey. The Last Guardian. Why does it hurt?
We've got topics from 2009, 2011 when it was suppose to be released, and E3 2013. and now 2016. A console generation later. I'd make a new topic but I don't want to jinx it.

What's this? Older games are boring by modern standards? I can't hear as well as I used to. XD

I enjoyed FF7 as a child, but the only reason I can't enjoy it nowadays is because (other than not owning it, due it being banned in our house), is because the characters look ridiculous. I can't take a chibi Cloud with square hands/legs seriously. I could if he was realistically proportioned.

Many people play FF7 today and still enjoy it. Maybe they're lying? I dunno.

I wonder if anyone does play Goldeneye 64 nowadays. I wouldn't know. I know that PC DOOM is still popular as always, especially with all the mods and servers. I still enjoy that to this day. :D

The difference with Doom on the PC is that it is a game that ages well and is still fun for what it is, rather than fun for the time it was released in.

I'm not saying they're boring by modern standards, I'm saying that we expect more from games now than we did back then, so when a game is great back in the day revisiting it now will expose the flaws, people don't realise that and they think "remake game X" will still achieve the level of awesome it had back in the day.

I feel there are many FFs that deserve a remake a lot more than FF7. I would personally love to see FF12 get a HD remake and FF4 remade into a 3D game, but I doubt that'll happen.
The thing is, I feel the only FF game that NEEDS a remake is FF7. The graphics make it hard to play, and hard to enjoy.
Your first playthrough will always be memorable, it's a great game the first time you play it, but going back to it now is just an eyesore.

With that being said, I haven't played FF8 and little of FF9 so I don't know if those need a remake, but I personally have, like many other fans, a fondness for FF7.

If I'm honest. FF7 Remake and FF15 are all I need. After that I think Square Enix can just fizzle off into the nothingness for all I care. The only reason FF15 will be good is because it has been so long in development, so it harkens back to squares good days.

Also, I find it a cop-out when people say "But the FF7 franchise got 9 games in total" because in england, only two of those 9 games got a release (as far as I'm aware) Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus.
Before Crisis and DoC Lost Episode never saw release outside of japan,
Final Fantasy VII Snowboarding is only available to V-Cast compatable phones, and I have no idea what V-Cast is but it doesn't matter anyway cause it's just a fucking minigame.

I know G-Bike is coming out at some point too, but it's the same as snowboarding!

Saw this and stopped reading... not sure if serious.

FF9 and FF12 don't need a remake, they need a refactor for other platforms (FFX-HD style).

I don't think it's a question of what FF game deserves a remake the most; can we trust SE to do a remake properly? Considering the company has had massive problems with operating in a hermit state since the 80s, I'm not sure they're capable of making the right choices at all.

I'd be a lot more comfortable if a studio that isn't SE does the remake. Gamers have no clue what they want, SE have no clue what gamers want; right now SE are making what gamers say they want, not what gamers actually want.

(I'd be a lot more comfortable if I was doing the remake, and I'm not saying that out of bitterness over my previous SE dealings :V )

All Final Fantasy IX needs is an upscale treatment similar to what VII and VIII got for the PC... I'd be more than happy with that, in fact, I'm surprised they've not done it yet!

Well the VII and VIII PC versions were done in the 90s by Eidos because some share holders at Square after Nintendo sold their majority shares felt that Square couldn't survive on a single platform. By IX, they proved they could so they had no reason to give IX the same treatment. On top of that, IX was a different team to VII and VIII and looking at the encryption it was programmed very differently, it would have been a bigger task back then, would have been more expensive.

I did a small amount of hacking with the FFIX model format (I think I posted a picture of what I was doing here at some point?) and it just makes me want them to refactor it more, mostly because I'm so tempted to reimplement the game myself when I'm messing about with their formats.

I get the same feeling with Digimon World actually, whenever I'm hacking around with that in my head I really want to start working on a reimplementation.

The steam versions are the same as the 90s PC versions with community made mods to make them compatible on modern systems. The achievement and cloud save features are handled externally from the game binary; I was also talking about the steam versions /antifacepalm

The V-Sat was a prototype streaming satellite service they had in parts of japan where you could download the game I remember.

Does anyone think about how their imagination played a major factor when it came out and that was the new standard? When it was bright, new and shiny?

I look back and remember filling in the blanks/polygons with what I thought the character should look like, which is akin to the battle sprite.

I think we all know they have to spruce it up, give it some modern gaming conventions for the new generations, and keep to the story to pick up the oldbies along the way.

They are games, I just want to have fun.

Oh and Star Ocean 5 looks fucking bangarang.

DID YOU SEE THOSE BATTLES!? The whole party!? That's nuts! But I'm actually excited about that, because I'm not fond of CHOOSING which characters to use.

I'm playing Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2 right now, and I have like 11 girls to put in my 4 person party. And I like more than 4, so I'm like... WHO DO I CHOOSE!?

I completed Rebirth1 twice recently (replay value is pretty okay on that series); they just add characters for the sake if it, it seems.
