Post What's on Your Mind

I wear glasses. Always in front of a screen. The sun is my mortal enemy! So much glare... Even with anti-glare glasses and screens.

Was so bright today, my tablet screen was like a mirror with a game playing in the background...

Your project was inspiring, Ellie. Loved following it! I wanted to play it when it was ready...

I might gammak on my week off, if I wasn't addicted to RuneScape.

I'm an hour away from "at least 80 in all skills" and 80 artifacts away from Grandmaster....

... I'm still trying to work my way into priff. Not even done majority of the quests needed, I'm TERRIBLE for quests these days, despite how much I used to enjoy them on my old account way back in the day. I literally only just completed Heroes' Quest a couple of weeks ago (Sitting here at 90 questpoints like a BAWSS) despite having combat stats all above 90, just did it because I was bored of running ED3 and wanted a break, lol. Should probably work on the elf questline but then double exp is coming up soon so... yeeeaaaaah lol.

Why do i take naps in the middle of the day when I know i'm just going to wake up feeling worst?
I do that too. I'm at my worst when I've been running a lot. Lately I've been down around 30 miles a week and I'm in better control of my sleep. But when I start running over 40 miles per week, then I'm always tired, and I start taking naps every day, and I don't know if it even helps.

I haven't been to the store to restock on coke for a while. Got slight caffeine withdrawl headaches again.
My cousin's wife just had brain surgery for the second time. They removed a tumor, I want to say 3 years back. Then last year I heard it was coming back. And recently they just took out another tumor. I assume in the same spot but I never learned the details of it.
So whenever I get a headache I can't help but imagine it's a tumor.

Brain tumors are suppose to be a rare thing. But yet I can name a handful of people who have had them. None of them are blood relatives. So it's not genetic. And I think that's scarier.

Did we talk about aneurysms here? There was someone famous, an actor I think, who died of a brain aneurysm recently. He was healthy and young, and suddenly a blood vessel burst in his brain and he died. I think there are conditions that make it more likely--being overweight, smoking, stuff like that--but sometimes there are no warnings, and suddenly you're dead. That's pretty terrifying.

So I'm helping my dad with this house addition. Some contractors just poured a concrete floor in the basement. Luckily. We get here at night. Still outside. I'm like "uh, I hear water." And he's like, "no. It's just the plastic blowing." And I say "no it sound like a lot of running water"

Sure enough. An old copper pipe had a hole in it. Near a light switch. Misting water everywhere. Had to shut the power and water off till my dad can fix it. It's a small basement and had a pump ready, but didn't think we'd be using it this soon.
Like 3 inches of water. Must have been a recent leak. Maybe a few hours.

Been toying with MMOs on mobile; if I see the word 'auto' one more time... But anyway, it definitely gotten me in the vibe for making a small indie MMO. Aside from y'know, not knowing the first thing about making one.

I know Construct 3 has a free server their built-in behaviours can plug into, but don't know if it would even support something like an MMO.

I should be able to start the process of getting my laptop repaired soon! Not sure if I'll continue with my Pokémon-esque game or drop it for something simpler (seen so many gacha Pokémon rip-offs on mobile).

Ellie has been working on an MMO for a while. Haven't seen an update lately, so I don't know what the progress is like now. Maybe you should see if she'll let you work on her project and then you won't be starting from scratch.

I've been doing Japanese localization in parallel to my regular game development. This week we got a review from a Japanese Steam group and as a result we sold 68 copies in Japan. I would have to sell that much every day in order to become rich, but it was still a very welcome bump in income.

It's a bit of a miracle that the Japanese sales took off when they did. Just the day before the bump, my landlord and I got totally fed up with each other. I was demanding that he pay for stuff in his crappy, run-down apartment. And he basically said, "I'm not paying for anything. You have 30 days to move out." I said, "Refund my rent and I'll be gone in two weeks." So we're moving out and the extra income is definitely going to be needed as we get started elsewhere.

On the game dev front, I had promised not to add any new features until the game was finished. I finished the final battle last month, but I really felt like it needed something more. So with the game now being playable from tutorial to final battle, I decided to get back to new features.

I added enemies that will fall back when taking too much damage (with a variable that affects how much damage that is--bandits retreat pretty quickly while the undead never retreat). I added strategic nodes that you can capture for a bonus and spawn points that you have to destroy to stop the enemy from getting reinforcements. And then I realized I could make the "node capture" event do anything. So now there are randomly placed treasure chests on the battlefield too. I think all the extras I added into combat lately will help make the game more dynamic. With the most recent changes--plus ranged units falling back from melee attacks and kiting you around--battles won't just be a situation where both sides dig in and trade blows anymore. Hopefully that makes the game more fun for everyone.

Yeah, missed seeing that project of her's! :( But ooo no, wouldn't want to be a bumbling idiot; I don't even know how to use RPG Maker.

Congrats on the sales! Must've felt good. Ugh, can't stand most landlords. Reminds me a few months back when universities got vacated due to the Pandemic, and the customer, who was a landlord, was venting hard about how his student tenants didn't want to pay rent for a place they weren't able to use due to said pandemic. No discounts, nothing.

It's just a dumb screenshot edit of The Cat from Infinity Train. Drawing attention to the fact that the voice actor is kate mulgrew, aka Captain Janeway.
I don't think I even save it after making it. The topic I posted it in probably didn't even last more than a few hours. That's the crazy thing. I thought Infinity Train was going to be this dumb miniseries that everyone would forget about a month later. So it's just surprising that someone appreciated it enough to save and upload to knowyourmeme. And now, Infinity Train is continuing with Book 3 on HBO with The Cat as a returning character. And now I see it in show discussions.

Octopus is the only Android gamepad-to-touch mapper I've been able to find which doesn't need to be rooted. It works pretty well, but has a few issues for my liking.

My laptop is in repairs now, so when I get that back, I might see if I can wrangle my own version in Android Studio or something. Will involve a lot of learning things, but appears to need 3 main elements: gamepad input detection, to be a transparent activity (sits on top) and triggers Android shell commands to emulate touch. From my research and experience of Octopus, this is how it does it.

So I was just thinking about creative pursuits I've had over the years, when I came to the realisation that I spent most my time in Game Maker making animations, and most my time in Flash making games...
