Post What's on Your Mind

I had my specialty training admission test today (in Costa Rica). It was 3 hours long. I went a cappella. I have a good feeling that I did fairly well, but I won't know until the scores come out.

Does anyone have plans to attend Screwattack this year? I want to go but friends are hesitant. One of them has a boner for Greg Miller and his crew though so I might can convince him.
If only it was closeby.

Come to think of it, nothing cool is EVER nearby. It's stupid. ;_;

Software does suck. I wish I could rewrite everything so it would not suck. But I don't have anywhere near the time, and neither does anybody else. So some guy spent a few weeks fixing everything he could and then had to go back to his normal life, but the stuff he didn't get to wasn't updated and now doesn't work well with the stuff he fixed. This is the story of broken open source software. Tune in next week to hear how soul-eating workplaces strip commercial developers from the motivation to make their crap any good at all!

My company's policy is "do it once, do it quick" to get it finished and then "do it twice, do it right" for future iterations.

I do slightly disagree, I prefer coming up with a solid design and implementing it correctly the first time round, but that's a dream and frankly it increases production time quite massively.

Oh, my software is probably terrible
I'm sure it isn't that bad.

Perhaps you need more practise, you may deliver something quite satisfactory at the end of it and I'm sure you'd be rewarded both emotionally and financially.
