Post What's on Your Mind

I think it's worst :/
But there's more on the screen now.
I turned off the rendering every other frame because really I should be fixing performance problems, not locking to 30 FPS.

It's definitely better than when you first looked at it now that culling is in-place.

If you select new game there's now a rotating map, if that's running fast then we're good. Otherwise, experiment is a failure.

Oh well, time to give up on that plan.

EDIT: Did some light optimisation and added 1 frame delay between rendering and the upload request (so the upload request is given, then the render commands are built - giving the GPU upload time to happen - then the software rendering is performed for the next frame).

That gave back 3ms on my machine. It's not going to get much faster without hardware acceleration, so I'm going to leave this little experiment.

There's no point using software rendering if the only machines that can run it fast are those where hardware acceleration would be better.

Ah! I forgot I turned off hardware acceleration in chrome recently.

Ok, before I turned it on, The title screen was at 3FPS and the map was 6FPS. It was an improvement.
With Hardware acceleration turned on, The title screen was still slow for some reason, 4FPS. But the map was a smooth 60FPS.

Guess a mode 7 Plugin could be done after-all.

Not really willing to investigate further, anyway. If hardware acceleration is needed, might as well use WebGL and not bother with this slow PS1 style software renderer.

It's far better than the mode 7 projection experiment I did a few months back.

Awesome Bro

I wouldn't mind it being $300 despite it being on the high side, but for some reason they've translated that to €350 which will most likely mean £300 for me... fuck that!

Ah just seen on Amazon it's £280... still too high for me right now, I'll give it a year or two, see if it still has support... it's really hard to get the bad taste of WiiU out of my mouth and they're really not helping with that

$300 high for a games console?
Cheap Android tablets are $100, the NVidia Android Shield TV is $200, I expected the Switch to be $300 (I would have been surprised if it was less or more than $300).
