Post What's on Your Mind

My last beer was on election night. I got so wasted. Had to wash away the disappointment. It was also the first time my spouse conquered 3 beers as if it were nothing. (She hates beer!)

Don't worry, we told the kids to hide the car keys that night...

Read some stuff I found interesting. How depression was understood and treated throughout the ages.
The Greek's model of the 3 part psyche was interesting. Reason, Desire, and Thumos. Thumos was a completely new concept to me. It would take a while to explain all what Thumos is and isn't. Separate from desire, it's a driving force. A drive to be recognized, to be great, to compete.
Something people today repress. Well, outside sports and narcissists anyways.

Imagine how good it will feel to beat a Korean at StarCraft.

I should make that a goal. Kinda a big one, but it could be fun.

Does sound reason enough to repress to be honest. That sounds a lot like those egotistical, insufferable personalities. :p

yeah but picture it leading to a lack of motivation and depression. You want to prove yourself worthy. But it won't matter because seniority and compatibility come before skill and enthusiasm.
The greeks used an analogy of a white horse (Thumos) and a black horse (Eros/desire) pulling a chariot(Logo/Reason)

Letting the horses run wild is a bad thing. It can trample people. If you let Eros (your desires) lead, you go in circles. Letting Thumos lead, you'll jump from interest to interest too quickly, abandoning goals never reaching anything.
You can't keep your Thumos restrained because it needs exercise for strong motivation and building confidence.
It's a pretty insightful metaphor.

I've beaten a few western progamers at Starcraft 2, but never a Korean progamer. That said, I did win a small LAN tournament here in the UK by beating a Korean in the final, but they weren't very good. They just happened to be Korean. Easiest £50 I ever made.

Hard to do anything. I mean, I can read the internet in the waiting room. And I'm sure I could bring a sketch book and do some doodles.
But I can only do digital coloring at home. And I barely get an hour and a half to do that.

Pretty epic anyway. Fast hands and good micro management is the key.

Edit: On other news, a cop was swallowed by a sinkhole yesterday, and a cop was Exterminated today by gunfire.

See? Even mother nature is tired of their corrupted bullshit. That says a lot.
