I'm starting a project restoring my D3 Digivice toy, it's one of these:
Plastic is badly yellowed (and the blue is discoloured), I completely broke the piezoelectric speaker a few years ago by snapping the wires when I was taking it apart due to the battery cover screw being rusted shut, and the buttons are a little stiff.
I'm restoring it as best I can right down to the battery warning stickers at the back.
Ordered some chemicals and a UV lamp to deyellow the plastic, I've disassembled everything (besides two stubborn screws, but they can stay there as it's just joining the belt clip to the battery cover), I've even ordered replacement screws to replace the rusted ones.
I had to melt the bolt out of the battery cover because the screw was so badly worn and stuck (and was the cause of me breaking it so long ago). Hopefully it will look amazing at the end of it.
The clear plastic screen at the front is all scratched though, does anyone know of any technique for getting rid of scratches in clear plastic? Like sanding lightly with wet gritted paper or using some kind of chemical? That's the only thing I'm unsure about at the moment.
If this project goes well, I have two 1998 vpets that could do with a clean (and one needs a replacement key-chain). It would be great to get these old toys back to working order. The vpets would be worth £120 each in perfect condition and the D3 Digivice about £60 (I've spent about £60 so far on restoration materials, still need to order the replacement warning stickers too).
