Pixel Art WIPs/Small Things Thread

Panda... this is so cute *o*
Really... It's very beautiful ^^
Well... Another sh*t made by me...

What do you think? ¬¬

So the RTP forest tileset has that one huge tree, so I thought I'd try to make one for the beach tileset, using the tree there as reference.

RTP tree:

My gigantic one:

Hmm... now that I see it here, it looks like there's too much light showing through, like it's too thin. I'll fix that, and clean up those weird half-transparent pixels floating around as well. :P

Awesome Bro

Well I must say that is pretty darn impressive, although it does actually seem GIGANTIC, and I think maybe adding more leaves will fill it out better, it seems a tad empty as is.

Well, I went with the quick fix by duplicating and scaling the leaves layer into a few more layers with lightness/saturation changes. I must say, for a 2 minute edit, it looks much better! (although still enormous xD)

That tree looks very good Dustin,
but now it kinda looks like there is alot of leaves at the back but not so much at the front...

And I dont think tis that big, personally I think the RTP trees are a little small.

Lol yeah, it's still huge, there's no doubt about it, but I really do love how you've kept the detail of it on a larger scale, and as it is now, it looks really nice, although now, the shadow seems a little off, it seems to be leaning to the left, maybe if you extend the shadow to the right, so the right half of the tree casts a full shadow. But I would really like to see this used in a tileset to see how well it blends with the rest of the RTP.

Yeah, I noticed the shadow was a bit off-center. I'll make some more edits, like tree roots growing over cliff edges, then post a map of the beach in the mapping improvement thread for critique at some point.

I've started working on something new. Considering the distrinct lake of steampunk resources, and the constant requests there are, I thought I'd make some steampunk style resources. I've started with this giant cog. However, I need help with shading the large section that's coloured all gold at the moment. I've tried spriting it as a normal sheet of metal, but it's too big, and the shading gets lost and messy. Any ideas?

@Dadevster: Yeah, it is kinda right-angleish at the moment.

@fox5: It looks like you just mirrored it in the middle, which throws off the lighting on one side. Also, a gear that big's gonna look real out of place unless theres a lot of other smaller gears and machinery type stuff around it, which maybe you plan on doing, I dunno. As for the flat metal part, I can't really help; I stink at large surfaces in spriting. :P All I can suggest for that is just some shine of course, and some black/rust colored marks that follow the curve to show where the grease has been rubbing against the sides as it spins.

Yeah, being steampunk, the cog's designed to be the centre piece of an air ship's engine. I just wanted to get the main bit done before moving on. I did mirror it, but that's only temporary, I'm going to change it once I've got the large area done.

Niiice tree, Dustin. Fox5, the cog looks great. I love that shading you used.
I'm afraid my art isn't as incredible, but I'm getting there :p

Tell me if anything looks off.

which part of the hair were you talking about? cause I'll see into fixing it, thanks though!

EDIT:

are you talking about the Maid or the last girl?

silverwind: Thanks. I actually love those two pieces, but I'd say that the paws of the second one and three or four pixels too high up, making it seem as if it's leaning back. But you may have wanted that, I don't know.

hellhound: The first one is not bad, but all the things being blown in the wind seem to be going different directions. The second one, again, is not bad, but I'm not sure what's happening to her right foot. The way it moves looks like it's broken, and I can't see how you could balance when bending your foot like that. I'd leave it stationary, or move it less. The last girl appears to be sliding along. Have a look at some referance stuff, people don't walk like that.
