i'd prefer if you sent me the schematic for the single pieces. i'm going to be using a different seed than the one your forest is on so land masses are way harder to match up, the bigger the land mass is.

anyway to make a schematic,

download MCEdit:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/138 ... -beta-173/

load the world in the editor,
navigate to the thing you wanna export,
use the selection cursor to highlight the block(s) you want to export (this can be super frustrating at times),
then hit the export to file button.
save it & send to me :)

i prefer if you:

crop the schematic as much as possible (leave VERY little extra air, water, land, etc.),
(actually if there is no regular ground AT ALL it is preferred, barring building floors)

avoid exporting anything that is SUPER RIDICULOUSLY TALL.
(sea level is approx. 64 blocks up from bedrock and the ceiling is 64 blocks up from sea level. if you build something inland, there is a chance that you're building BELOW sea level, and if it's so tall that clouds pass through it, there is a good chance that it will not be very easy to place as a schematic on a different map, b/c it'll always look like it's clipping into the ground as it hits the ceiling.)

if you export a single room, export ONLY the room and its walls, with NO air surrounding the walls' exteriors ... i have to be able to import air to make single rooms work.

also if anyone finds/makes some nice pine trees, can you export them and send them to me? regular-sized ones, I mean. they are always hard for me to find b/c i can only ever find them growing out of mountains and i need them not to have any ground attached to them ...

i build this on an impossible map (the sea of flames)

summin like that?

I would prefer server to build epic structures and constantly adding new cities/villages/ruins and connect these all (except ruins) with raildroad. Also in 1.8 update Notch will add game mode like classic, so this is great opportunity to start server like this.
Also it's almost impossible to find any good server where buildings actually doesn't make your eyes bleed (houses made with dirt or with all types of colored wool placed randomly in floor/wall, OH FUCK, GET ME OUT OF HERE).

What do you think about it, guys and ladies?

PS. I once played "base vs base" and it was way less fun than building even simple village.

Well I don't know. It seems like we have an equal number of PvP wanters and an equal number of creative wanters ...

i will NOT be implementing multiple worlds from the start; i'd much rather us live cohesively and make an interesting planet than have two underpopulated planets.

let me put up a poll here. if anyone has ideas on how to make everyone play nice together and still have fun, let me hear them

We can build multiple areas for gladiator fights. ;p It can be almost everything - some examples:

Boxing ring - for fist fights.

Shooting range, 2 teams fight against each other, they have bow, some arrows and covers to hide.
First team who kills other will win. Also when your team are out of arrows - you lose. To prevent punching others arena have 2-3 blocks wide lava pit in center.

Labirynth - many variations:
2 teams/players (or more) - the one who will find center of labirynth take prize. It can have 2 variations - one with pvp when you must also avoid other players, because they can loot you and without pvp - you grab prize and it's all yours no matter what.

Unlit labirynth with many angry mobs. (it requires mod to lock creeper abillity to destroy blocks).
Players starts with wooden sword and 2-3 torches, maybe some food. They must fight with angry mobs. There are many chests with some items like armor etc. Players can take everything, but when you got killed - you lose all. Teamplay is necessary, because monster spawnrate in dark is very high.

I once played second variation - it was very nice and thrilling. :D

Some sort of climbing - huge rock (to prevent destroying dirt with hand) with dangerous path leading to top. You must jump over gaps with only 30-40 blocks of air beneath etc. ;d Facing other player can be very dangerous - one punch and you can fall from edge.

PS. Also arenas can be build like old abandoned villages or road in center of wild west city, with saloon or castle sieges, bank to rob (and when you fail - escape from jail ;d). It's almost endless list.

I probably won't join your server but I do have a simple gametype suggestion; A capture the flag like gametype might be fun?
For example:

Each team has a base, inside the base is an item (a gold block or something) the team that captures it's opponents item first wins.
Or you could make it 1flag-ctf meaning you've got an offensive and a defensive team.

You could also improve the game by adding secondary objectives, there could be towers (or other buildings) which your team can capture, that will contain better weapons or armor.

It's just a suggestion ofcourse, I'm not even sure if it could be implemented right but I thought I'd share this idea because I'm planning on doing it on my own server. :)

I am not a big fan of most capture the flag ideas, mostly because they require monitoring and manual resetting. I'm going to hire 1-2 server mods among the players to help me with day-to-day functions, but I don't have the capability of running frequent, unplanned, monitored minigames.

We could do semi-occasional EVENTS where we all gather and do capture the flag from either base, though, and I've been meaning to do that all along.

I am aware that there is a plugin that is capable of handling some of the reset etc. events but not enough of them for me to feel comfortable with leaving it running.

if you've read the thread's comments, this has sorta been the plan since page 1 :)

Iconomy.
Yes, was planned from the start.

Interesting. If it plays nice with the Minecart Mania Suite, then yes I can implement.

Now, this will make building a shit load easier.
Yeah, I planned this from the start as well. Well actually, I had a custom one that nulled block damage on built structures from creepers, fires, and TNT. But yeah nothing is more annoying than exiting your house, only to be met with a creeper popping down off your roof to say hello! by blowing a gaping hole through your front door.

This one will probably be helpful.
Thiiiiiis I may wait on, as they're introducing one or more new mobs for v1.8, and I'd like to let people adjust to the new mob drop(s) so they can hunt the way they're familiar with.

--Though, wait, I could also use it to modify QUANTITIES ... And I just realized that I'm disabling TNT, so there's no point in creepers dropping gunpowder. Maybe I'll have them drop something funny instead. Yeah okay this could work!

MCMMO is something else too.
I'm not familiar with this; I'll read up on it later & let you know.

Book worm, we just have to have.
looks cute, could be a fun little side gimmick, sure :)

I'm not familiar with this one either; will do research on it before giving a verdict~

that looks pretty fun! I don't see why not.

Let proxies sort out your problems with HeroBounty
Haha, that's a cute idea. I'll consider it.

Yeaaaahhh ............. Hm.
So long as I can cause the pets to go totally tame and not harm other players or their owners (note that I will be mollifying all pet wolves as well), even while their owners are logged out, I will implement this.
Otherwise, I'll implement it, but bar people from taming hostiles.

[Remember (obv) that I can only implement these on the basis of their being up-to-date within a week of the v1.8 release. Otherwise, I will have to add them as they become updated]

Yes that is a goal -- though, as we've seen with my Terraria server--it doesn't always work out as planned. It is hard to get enough people on and on the same agenda at the same time, to make any of these stadiums terribly worthwhile.

I would like (and am working on) one or two stadiums, for pre-planned events.
I can use a few of your ideas in this one obstacle course dealie I'm devving ;)

good news,

i think i may have the more powerful server comp set up within the next few weeks.
depending on when v1.8 is released, we may have it running on that from the get-go instead of after the thing's begun.

less lag = more happy

as an addendum to the ctf mode, how about this: it is ongoing, meaning it never ends. the team who controls the flag (or sexy model of venetia) gets something beneficial to them while they hold it at its designated holding zone. say it doubles their mining efficiency? maybe makes fall damage cut in half? who knows, that's half the fun. that way there's no need for monitoring, there's no resetting (except in the case where it falls into lava or cannot be found somewhere, which maybe it should have a glow around it to distinguish it in pure darkness at the least), and it would allow for a constant goal between the two sides. perhaps we'll have to make the flag room self defended against maybe 2 people at most, while 3+ can easily take the flag/sexy model of venetia.

just my $0.02

i've been thinking about this, probably a little too hard, but let me know what you think on my solution here to make both the PvP'ers and the Creators happy.

(note that i've actually made a good bit of this already, and i want to modify it to your suggestions)

alright. imagine.

THE HOME BASE - HBGarrison

the INITIAL new player spawn point is set inside of a FUCKING ENORMOUS base, in a vast desert. This base is walled in. There is a giant portcullis land-based exit on the northern, eastern, and western walls. An ocean lines the giant base along the south wall, and there you find a modest harbor.

Players will not be able to modify the walls, gates, or harbor, but will be able to rent boats, open/close the portcullises, or request property within the base to build upon (More info on this below.)

Inside this giant (like, fucking huge--I must stress this) base, there will be pre-built:

- a server "palace", with some basic amenities, nice things to look at, and places to chill. Certain areas in and around this will be editable by anyone who wants to make it prettier or homier. my own personal office is inside this palace, as well as a room/office set aside for a fellow server mod. should someone need me or the mod, we can teleport them there and we can hash things out. i thought this would be a good idea as I will likely not have a private house (between causing trouble and solving probs for you guys, I don't think I'll have the time!), and a server deserves a good office for people to go to to always reach an admin. (I'll even have an area dedicated to slapping down signs with complaints, etc. for me to attend to.)

- some vendors in a small bazaar, for basic needs, or selling your goods. they will barter for coins/game money (i'm thinking about calling the currency Cogs, to follow our HBG theme). [which goods would you most like the vendors to sell? note that players will also be able to make shops to sell from (more on that below).]

- little pre-made apartments for people who don't have a house and/or who just need to bunk somewhere for a bit. they will be rather modest, non-expandable, non-editable, and non-teleportable, but free to use for anyone who needs to use a bed, furnace, crafting table, or just a well-lit spot to unwind.

- I would LIKE to pre-make "luxury" apartments in a high-rise, OR one or two "luxury" houses, for people to buy, who want pretty-looking property inside the main base, but don't want to buy blank land to waste a lot of effort on building something there themselves. these will be editable, and a player could buy multiple apartments to use to expand their pad, should they choose to. Note also that these should cost a good deal of Cogs to buy, so it's doubtful anyone will be owning them in the early days. [Do you think this is a good idea, or should I not waste more space on pre-built things? Another reminder: this is a massive base, with tons of room to build houses]

___

OWNING HOME BASE PROPERTY

I will dole out "parcels" of land within the home base. If you join the server on day 1, you will find lots of square or rectangle patches of blank grass among the paved streets. In the middle of each grass patch, will be a sign that displays a Cog price to buy that land parcel.

You can't modify that patch until you buy it from me--after that, it becomes your baby alone to edit and build on to your heart's content. I will ask that whatever you build there should look nice, but whatever you use to build and whatever design you implement is up to you. Other people will not be able to modify it or remove its contents, and you will even be able to lock your front door so people can't enter it, if you choose.

You can also turn this land parcel into a shop, where you sell things. The home base will be the only place with shops at first, so plonking down the first player-built shop could be extremely lucrative.

I can optionally provide you with a stack of certain building blocks or buckets, for a fee (for instance, sandstone, brick, glass, wood planks, white wool, or lapis lazuli blocks--nothing that can be made into medium to powerful weapons or armor).

Day 1 will feature a 50% OFF discount on land parcels (and, possibly, other sales days will happen later)! But after that you have to pay full price. Parcel price will be based on how large the parcel is, paired with how close it is to desirable places.

Note that buying & selling or renting parcels could be a moneymaking endeavor! As you build on it, that parcel's value may increase. Parcels will become worth more or less, depending on how nice your neighbors' houses look, as well! And let's say you build something SUPER AMAZING, right next to the portcullis that leads to the Red Team Base, and toss in a chest with a set of diamond armor. Well, people are probably going to want it, right? You can plop down a sign out front that says "FOR SALE - X COGS - CONTACT [MY NAME]". If someone buys it, you could be flipping that property for FAR more than the parcel price. All you have to do to sell is call me over to inspect the property and assess its worth--but you can still sell it for however much you want--and then tell me when someone wants to buy, so I can complete the transaction for you and set the property's perms to the new owner.

Any land parcel will include up to 15 blocks below ground level, and up to 50 blocks above ground level, but will not allow for building out over any side of that parcel (underground or over) without permission.

NOTE THAT ANY PROPERTY YOU OWN WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR YOU TO TELEPORT TO AT ANY TIME YOU WISH.

TEAM BASES

Off to the west or east, will be team bases. These will be PvP-oriented.

A basic wall and tiny, buildable encampment will be waiting for you to fill with structures and traps.

@Shop
Basic stuff like sticks, torches, planks.
Some wooden tools.
Beds, doors, note blocks (for those who like a doorbell early on)

Also, if you need a pre builder (wall, palace), just lemme know ;D
I can build pretty fast

i already have the palace, walls, gates, and the freeloader apartments pre-built. but i could use schematics of decorative lamp posts (i.e. tall fence posts with hanging glowstone blocks) if you have them!

dunno why but i hate making lamp posts ...

or if you have any interesting, desert-themed rooms, i could use those as well, for the luxury high-rise.

Ill see what i can build..

By tomorrow i think i can get screens 'n schematics.

But i think people missed the CUSTOM TEXTURE PACK comment i made, given that we have lot's of spriters 'n such.

I dunno, the only way I would be interested would be if it's SMP with towns and economy or war-like PvP. If you are going to put a focus on building in the center home base, you might as well just do it like SMP with PvP being free outside the base. That home base can be like the first town, and if it turns out more towns are needed later they can be added (or people can just start making towns). The war based PvP I think would only work if it was the only focus of the server. Wouldn't really be worth it if there's like 1 person from each team online.

im already going to be making the official texture pack: a customized variation of dokucraft. there will also be a custom 16 bit version set as the official pack, in case someone wants to run a lower-res pack :)

@ Demon: lemme type out the rest of my big idea before making assumptions :x

i think this was overlooked from ven's massive post

Some lampposts:

A single and double

A double corner piece

A triple and quadruple

Some alternate designs

A way to easy lamppost

I'll notice if there needed. I'll be making some more overtime.
Also, did you need the bridge schematic?

I personally am not big on PvP and probably won't be doing most of my building in a town. I like to build out in the boonies by myself or with a couple people on collaborative projects, but I'd probably build a townhouse too just to do it.
