Hey umm gameline, you're supposed to put the ip for the Myfreesql.com database in DB_server not localhost, unless you're running the actual database off of your own computer. I'm sure you can find the ip of your database on that website.
 
Hey Icedmetal, what do u thinks wrong with mine and huttons server or game?

We have the server running(main.rb as well) and everything. Everything has been worked out and sorted.

But when u start the game it says no server, even though it is there.

I'm not icedmetal but I'd say at a guess it's a firewall problem. Either that or your IP is incorrect. (127.0.0.1 for internal loopback)
 
My game is set up to that to, we even tried changing the ip in the game to the servers ip, andthe computers ip. None not even 127.0.0.1 even make it say theres a server

Hmmm, do you have it set up properly client side?
 
im using netplay plus 2.0 and ive set up a mysql database and got the server running, i can log in and see other people and chat to them...but i cant see them move..they just stay still. any ideas? :(

The client doesnt refresh and looking for player movments.
all this system is useless for those huh dont want to continue developing it.
these alot of work to do to fix this system, its lags alot and the server cant be stable, its developed in ruby wich is not good laungen for networking.
 
I'm beginning to wonder how much someone like SS or Trickster would charge to make their version of Netplay+ from scratch. I mean, Netplay+ is alright and all but the makers have seemingly disappeared, it's unfinished, parts are badly coded and untested, and it's not tailor made for a project so parts are irrelevant or not made right for a specific game.

Like it says - it depends on your computer/server - if you had a dedicated server with 5 GIG of RAM and a mega processor etc. then it'd probably hold a fair few players without lagging too much...

just tell me if it's 3 users or closer to 1000..
I'm using my own pc , with dual cpu(3.4 GHz), windows xp, 40 GB free space in C:\. internet speed:1.5 MB\s

I asked this on a proper game design forum and they basically said there are too many variables to it to find out. Bandwidth, computer specs, where you are, etc. The only way to find out is to test it yourself really.
 
so theres no hope? how would i make the client refresh and check for player movements?

is there a better engine out there for making online games
(dont say realm crafter, it's shit house)

also, are there any versions of netplay that DO work? even if its just going online and seeing each other move around with chat.
 
What do you mean "how to make the client refresh?" it does it automatically. Are you trying to play with two windows on one computer? Because only one is active at a time, so only one is refreshing.

I think its good, just finish the scripts of yourself. If they had fully made it super good with everyscript 110% perfect, then you would get every game made with it the same, just different story. Catch my drift?
I think, if its too hard for anyone to use, learn some ruby, learn some mysql, then comeback to it with some better knowledge of how it works
