Lucid Dreaming

I'm just a little afraid of the side effects. I believe people weren't created to be able to have control of things like their dreams. While it is possible, with such a ability you might even do your mind damage. Pretty soon it might even become hard to differentiate between a dream and reality. Call me pessimistic on the subject but I'm a little iffy about it.

Well, there is that sleep paralysis thing...which from experience is pretty damn scary. Apparently according to wiki (not sure of the source so I dunno if it's true), that can last for around 4 hours. Imagine, 4 hours being awake but not able to move? That would be...well that's just crazy.

But, I don't seem to have to try and get myself to dream lucidly. It just happens. Not sure why...

I have never really experienced a Lucid Dream before, but ever since I heard of it, I had always wanted to.

I think I will have a bash at Lapensee's method tonight and hope for the best. :)

I've always known control over a dream was possible, but I never knew there was a method of doing so. I randomly become aware in my dreams in time to get lost in my high school (in my dreams it is many many many miles in every direction, with countless buildings and all of my classes are at opposite edges of the campus...) I can see and hear, but I can never smell, and I don't recall feeling.

Maybe tonight I will try this, and possibly re-enact the book I just read (The Golden Compass). Oh, what awesomeness that would be!

Peace!

Heh, I was thinking of re-enacting the book I am reading, but instead of Eragon riding the Dragon, it will be me! Or maybe I could be Shruikan?

I think I'm aiming a bit too high for the first time. =/

Found out what a hag is.

A hag, or "the Old Hag", was a nightmare spirit in British and Anglophone North American folklore. This variety of hag is essentially identical to the Anglo-Saxon m?ra ? a being with roots in ancient Germanic superstition, and closely related to the Scandinavian mara. According to folklore, the Old Hag sat on a sleeper's chest and sent nightmares to him or her. When the subject awoke, he or she would be unable to breathe or even move for a short period of time. Currently this state is called sleep paralysis, but in the old belief the subject had been hagridden.[5] It is still frequently discussed as if it were a para-normal state.[6]

In Irish and Scottish mythology, the Cailleach is a hag goddess concerned with creation, harvest, the weather and sovereignty.[7][3] In partnership with the goddess Br?de, she is a seasonal goddess, seen as ruling the winter months while Br?de rules the summer.[7] In Scotland, a group of hags, known as The Cailleachan (The Storm Hags) are seen as personifications of the elemental powers of nature, especially in a destructive aspect. They are said to be particularly active in raising the windstorms of spring, during the period known as A Chailleach.[8][7]

Hags as sovereignty figures abound in Irish mythology. The most common pattern is that the hag represents the barren land, who the hero of the tale must approach without fear, and come to love on her own terms. When the hero displays this courage, love, and acceptance of her hideous side, the sovereignty hag then reveals that she is also a young and beautiful goddess.[3]

The Three Fates (particularly Atropos) are often depicted as hags.

In Persian folklore, the Bakhtak has the same role as that of "the Old Hag" in British folklore. The Bakhtak sits on a sleeper's chest, awakening them and causing them to feel they are unable to breathe or even to move. Bakhtak also is used metaphorically to refer to "nightmare" in the modern Persian language.[citation needed]

Many stories about hags seem to have been used to frighten children into being good. Peg Powler, for example, was a river hag who lived in river trees and had skin the color of green pond scum. Parents told their children that if they got too close to the water she would pull them in with her extra long arms, drown them, and sometimes eat them. The parents hoped that the children would be afraid of the hag so they wouldn't go anywhere near the water. That way, they'd never fall in and drown. Peg Powler has other regional names, such as Jenny Greenteeth from Yorkshire and Nellie Longarms from several English counties.[9]

Many tales about hags do not describe them sufficiently to make it clear whether the tale deals with an old woman who has learned magic or a supernatural being.

Ok I know what a hag is now but for some reason everytime I say or hear the word I start feeling cold any explanation for this? Cos I don't know if I am scared or something else

almost all of my dreams are naturaly lucid. somepoeple pinch themselves to see if they are dreaming, but i bite my right middle finger between the second and third knuckles. if i feel pain, its real life, and if I feel a tingling sensation, its a dream.

Just because a dream is "lucid" doesn't mean you will have concious control over it. I sometimes find that I can't make something happen when I want to like flying, waking up, or even changing a nightmare into a normal dream.

I did conquer my fear of clowns through lucid dreaming, though.

I've had lucid dreams, but sometimes I KNOW I'm sleeping, and i can actually SEE my room, but when i try to get up, i feel pressure thats MUCH stronger than me, and i can't move, and i try and try and try. until i can manage to wake myself up. it's very strange and frightening, i always wake up exhausted when i have those.

EDIT: after re-reading some of the post, i realized this is called the "old Hag" as far as i know the effects are exactly the same as those i've had, and yeahh it's scaryt as hell, i always freak out when i have those :(

wow someone who has actually experienced hag

anyway my dad says he is going to try out this technique on friday

hmm i dunno if it's that uncommon, but it's definitely NOT fun. I've had that happen a few times, i remember having some episodes of that when i was much younger and i had one a month or 2 ago.
apparently some people see or hear things, i don't... luckily :P but next time that happens, just in case not to freak out, i'm NOT gonna look around. when you feel extremely heavy and pinned to your bed, it's HORRIBLE, but what makes you feel even worse is how you feel like you can;t do ANYTHING to save yourself from whatever is gonna happen to you.

Ex: i'm always in my room, and i know my parents are home, and just in the other room, but i can't scream, i try and try but nothing comes out. that makes you feel soo bad :(

i'd really really like to not have that ever ever again :P

I managed once... i went to bed thinking "i'm dreaming i'm dreaming i'm dreaming"... and yes it worked... for some time i realized i was dreaming and made what i want. Strange sensation.

Ah, this sounds really awesome.
I'm going to have to try it tonight, although I'll admit I'm kind of afraid of the hag...

I'm doing this for about 9 months and it's scary like hell until you don't get hang of it.
If you like this you should try telekinesis, pyrokinesis, aerokinesis... and all that while your awaken.

I practice lucid dreaming or hag or Astral projection for about 9 months and at first it was scary. Flying over my body and looking at it. But when you get hang of it it will give you ultimate fun.

If you like Lucid Dreams you could try pyrokinesis, telekinesis, aerokinesis... all that when you are awaken. PM me and I will give you links to sites with lesions how to learn these skills.

Well...I usually say where dreams will go.
Like a director, you could say. Scenes, shots, characters and dialogues. All.
It's strange. It will be because I've a very "dreamy" approach to drawing? 'Cause I sort of dream my pictures when I'm drawing it? Dunno XD
