Legionwood *J-RPG with 15+ hours of gameplay*

How is this a J-RPG? Was this made in Japan? I guess im basically asking if you are Japanese.

Legionwood features a massive world filled with adventures and side quests, and is expected to contain over 20 hours of gameplay and five story driven chapters.
While it isn't revolutionary and contains gameplay that is for the most part bog standard RPG fare, Legionwood is designed to be that way; familiar and fun for RPG fans looking for a casual game to play.

ill be honest, ive never been a huge fan of your games, no offense, but after reading this I might download and play this. I dont mind so much that the game be ridden with basic gameplay or old school pacing and what not, but if it turns out to have a cliche dialogue or feel I might not enjoy it. Based on this, though I feel that youre being honest to the player so they know what to expect, and that should draw them in. I'll give this a whirl later this weekend!

A J-RPG can be made outside of Japan. It's a type of rpg games which due to their character development, target audience, linear narrative, and visual style are distinctable from other rpg's. Okay, 95% of JPRGs are offcourse made in Japan, but it's a type of rpg. It doesn't refer to it's place of origin, at least not in the first place.

Obviously I'm not Japanese... By "J-RPG style game" I'm referring to the fact that it plays like a basic japanese RPG (ei. more linear, less character customisation, character driven rather than story driven etc) and less like a western RPG like Fallout or Knights Of The Old Republic that are more open.

Thanks for giving the game a try even if you aren't a fan of my games, but I'd appreciate if you hold on just another week or two until the completed game is released, which contains a dialog rewrite and lots of edits.

I guess that's what I mean. Thus, why I said "J-RPG style game" in the intro. To clarify, this game is not made in Japan. It's not a J-RPG in that respect but is modelled on J-RPGs, rather than a western RPG style.

JRPG is no longer a geographical thing. It has evolved into a phrase that refers to the style of a game rather than the place it was made. Basically, it has become a genre. What you're saying is like saying that a western can't be made outside of America... or something equally silly.

See, see! I knew it :D

I actually like the look of this, and will probably try it within the next week or so. And then I'll tell you what I think about it. I'll also be studying your maps while I do it, need to learn how to map with VX, just a heads up.

EDIT: I tried it, and is it just me? Or is it a little odd that enemies hit me for 40-50 damage when I only have 120 Health. Makes me drop really fast when three enemies focus me.

@Eidolion: You're right, that is a bit hard. That's why I changed it in the new version ;)

The day you eagerly awaited probably didn't care about is here at last!

Legionwood is fully complete, and testing is finished! The full game with all four chapters can now be downloaded. Please enjoy! I spent three years of my life toiling to complete this game...

See the first post of the thread for the download link!

since this ambitious project has been completed i am moving it to the completed projects section. Good job on finishing you stuff. :D

Hi everyone! Sadly, I've had to suspend the games downloads in order to upload a new one. My artist, Kken, has requested that I change her name in the credits and I felt I should honour her wish immediately. Thus, I've removed all previous downloads and am uploading a new one to RMN as we speak, which should be available sometime within the next 24 hours.

It will also include a small bug fix. If you've downloaded the current version, don't worry about downloading the new one, just simply go into the BGM folder, copy "Adventure Awaits.mid" and rename it to "BR - Adventure" to fix it yourself.

I thought I removed that puzzle!

Oh well, here's how to solve it;
Have the crystals swap places, then push them up/down from there onto the arrows that face the center statue.

And then examine the statue.
