Is an XBOX worth it at this point?

The reason why I'm asking is because I don't want to buy a 360 right now and then they immediately come out with the XBOX 720, or whatever the next one will be called. When the first XBOX came out, I wasn't expecting it to be very popular and instead I saved my money for a gaming PC instead. And that's what I did. I now have a Vista rig with a 8800 GTX, a 3.0 Core 2 Duo, and 4 GB of RAM. I can run just about anything at a more than decent framerate with most if not all sliders turned up. I think the only game that does chug ever so slightly is Crysis. If not, the game is usually a port and therefore not optimized properly.

First, the plus sides on why I want to get a 360.
-One, my friend who I never see now execpt through webcams cause he's in the Navy in Japan, is on XBOX LIVE.

-There a few kind of games out there that I know that either never come out to PC, either because the controls wouldn't fair so well on a keyboard and mouse setup, or if they do, they take a while to get released and then they are even ported and run horribly. *coughSaint'sRow2cough* I'm talking 3rd person adventure games, like Prince of Persia, or Ninja Gaiden. I feel unfortuante never being able to play that, knowing how others say how good it is. I miss JRPG's, thanks to RPG XP, and since JRPGs now come to XBOX instead of just the PS2/3, I could try those too. Don't forget fighting games as well.

-I realize that my gaming has become quite expensive. Even though I haven't regretted the majority of the PC games I bought, there were a few duds, but dud or not, that's $50. Game companies nowadays seem to be experiencing brain farts and are making the same mistakes/using failed concepts over, and over, and over. I'm thinking of going back to renting games. Since I particuallry like FPS games only on PC, I can rent the game for 360 and if I like it, return it and buy it for PC. You can't "rent" computer games. You can only play demos, IF they make one. They're free, but they don't offer the entire game.

-There are also games that I'd really like to try nowadays, but wouldn't want to buy, or at least rent for the sake of adding content to my blog site. (see signature)

- I have a pair of THX certified speakers a big widsecreen TV...which I use to play only old PS2 games with, or watch non HDTV cable.

Now here's why I don't want one.

-Renting before buying puts the risk of not buying it on release date only to eventually like it after renting and find out they have no copies left, and so I'm stuck waiting weeks, if not an entire month for more to come in.

-I don't like playing FPS games on the 360, or ANY kind of console for that matter. And if I do suck up to buying one because it never comes to PC, I get pissed when they eventually DO release it to PC, and it actually fairs BETTER and have loads of 3rd party mods. (Like GTA San Andreas) After playing SOCOM for the PS2 when it came out, I never touched a console FPS again. Yes, I have yet to enjoy Halo 3 or even Halo 2 simply because of this fact. I just cant' stand using two sticks which force me to aim in completely straight lines and have to apply different amounts of pressure with just my thumbs missing my target because I pushed slightly too hard or slightly too little. I could aim at someone's head moving my entire arm with a mouse in a fraction of the time. (Trying writing a sentence with just holding the pen with your thumbs and not all your fingers.) If the game is released for both console and PC at the same time, I'll choose the PC. I spent so much damn money for a gaming rig when PC gaming was the way to play FPS games back in the Counterstrike days, taking it away from consoles, and now everyone is back on the consoles again, simply because a console is more affordable. I smell bullshit.

-The games that have any kind of decent mulitplayer for 360 nowadays is only FPS games, FPS games I'd rather play on the PC given the chance.

-Other than my friend, the thought of being forced to hear 6 year olds (or adults with the brain capacity of 6 year olds) scream obscenities and other pointless remarks in my ear due to the lack of a keyboard on LIVE is giving me the willies.

-I reserved and have bought a Collector's Edition of MGS4. And I have no PS3. The game is rotting in my closet, hell the plastic is still on it. I figured get the game now, and wait for the PS3 to get cheaper, but a frikin year has gone by and I still don't see that happening anytime soon.

Well there you go. Given the reasons, should I get a 360?

There are really very few good games that come out on the 360 that also don't come out on the PC, and even if they do run horribly I still wouldn't buy the whole system. You can buy just a controller and play with the 360 controller on your computer if you feel that necessary. So if you don't have one by now, and you seem to enjoy playing FPSes, I would say don't even bother. Use that money on a PS3 and enjoy your new Blu-Ray Player+.

What tofu said. Plus, Killzone 2 is coming out at the end of the month, and that is a PS3 exclusive. You'll be sorry if you buy a 360 and KZ2 is a total hit.

I just recently read up some on KZ2, and I'm hoping my tax return will allow me to buy this game day 1. It's going to be fucking awesome.

Yeah I agree with buying a PS3, you already have one of the best games ever made for it, and Killzone 2... how to describe it...... WAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW, I've played the demo three times cause it's absolutely amazing, I know you hate FPS games, but this is simply brilliant...
And for JRPG's, well, PS3 has a bigger library than the 360 there, including, when it comes out, White Knight Story (Chronicles I think in US ?) which looks REALLY good, and even has online capabilities (16 people per room, and parties of 4). Another game to buy if you DO get a PS3, is Valkyria Chronicles, it's SO hard to get hold of (Well, it was for me), but it's totally worth the pricetag.

Yeah, this just sounds like I'm driving you towards a PS3, which indeed, I am, but it's worth it

killzone 2 is an FPS. he explicitly stated that he doesn't do console FPS games. I can understand that - it is kinda a weird transition from the accuracy a mouse provides you with.

if you like RPGs, the only ones that come to mind which are exclusive to the 360..

lost odyssey
blue dragon
fable 2

... yeah that's pretty much all of them. most of the popular xbox 360 games out now are FPS games which are also available on the PC. so i'm not sure that the 360 is for you, unfortunately.

there are features built into xbox live that eliminate the annoying children on games like halo3 (one of the worst communities on any game ever). in halo3 there is an option to simply mute everybody - which i use 100% of the time. there is also the feature of party chat which allows you to talk privately with people in the same game with you, or even people playing a totally different game (or no game at all).

personally, i prefer the xbox 360 - but you might want to take a look at the ps3 if you're looking for an alternative to the PC gaming lineup.

Just go to your local Circuit City before it closes. You'll end up saving at least $50-100

What are you implying? Circuit City is selling 360's cheap cause of thier business?
That's a no brainer there.....

Also, nobody seems to of read that I also like to play "OTHER" games than just RPG's or FPSes. These are usually games that are controlled from a 3rd person view, games like Prince of Persia, Afro Samurai, etc.

Here's another idea. If you can't think of enough games exclusive to a system that you want to play whose summed cost is equal to or more than the cost of the system, don't get it. i.e. A 360 costs $200-300 USD, $400 if you want the larger hard drive. Games cost between $50 and $60 USD, usually 60. If you cant name four or more exclusive titles that you actually want to play, don't get one.

Current exclusive games that (as far as I know) have no plans to be ported to PC or elsewhere are:
Gears of War 2 (not fps, but third person)
Fable 2
Lost Odyssey
Tales of Vesperia
Halo 3

As far as I can tell, that is a rumor spawned from a poorly translated interview. It's possible that the PS3 version if they make one will be Jap exclusive like it was for the PSP Phantasia and PS2 Symphonia

Tales is badass. Don't buy Two Worlds. From what I played of the demo, it really sucked.

However; I have a 360. I play H3, Fracture (A really cool new shooter), Fable II, and several other games. I'd also suggest Assassin's Creed. That one's pretty good. I love my 360. I love the interface. Within seconds, you can be online downloading a new game. They also have TONS of user made games coming out every day. The graphics beat the shit out of PS3's

This one's a little more on the... whichever you THINK looks better. lol. I've seen a lot of pictures that make the PS3 look like the 360's bitch though.

Aside from all of that. I love the 360's controller. So the PC option with a 360 controller would actually make me just as happy. But I DO run a Dell XPS with a GeForce graphics card. So it doesn't matter to me.
It's up to you, though. As you can see, everyone here says PS3. But I'm a multiplayer kinda guy. I like online play more than anything, and PS3 is more for the solo stuff. Hence the 2 controller ports vs the 4 on the 360.

Oh, also, Lost planet is a game I'd definitely check out. The demo was awesome. I'll be buying it as soon as I become a millionaire again.

You can get online and download a game from the PS3 in seconds, too.. that's not a very exclusive thing. Not only that, but the PS3 has a built in internet browser, so you can :fap: to your favorite porno without getting off the couch (or, you know, use the internet legitimately.. yeah, right).

The graphics on PS3 are not worse than the 360, and vice versa. I've got an HDTV and both systems and there is no difference between Bioshock (a must play, btw) and Assassin's Creed (for example). Pictures NEVER do a game any justice. I've realized this by looking at pictures AS I play said games, as well as playing demos of games I don't currently own. Only games I've seen so far that ever looks as good as the pictures, are both Crysis games, and those are computer games so it's a moot point.

Well you're not a fanboy now, are you ? Eat shit damn fanboys !

Firstly, as EVERY OTHER COMPARISON has forgotten, that on the PS3 menu you have the choice for:

HD - Limited or FULL
Superwhite - On or Off

The comparisons never take advantage of this feature, so come back with some REAL results with HD turned to FULL and Superwhite ON.... Also just as a note, those are multiplatform games, developed on the 360 for ease, and ported over to the PS3...

Name me 3 Exclusive 360 games with better graphics than MGS4 and Killzone 2....

jbrist, mikees post was simply in favor of the 360. it wasn't fanboyish at all. he was just giving the guy some information that he probably thought would be useful in making this decision. you're the one getting all huffy and defensive over one small pot-shot at the ps3.

and i don't think 2 worlds is bad at all. i mean it's rather brief, and the combat against the large enemies is VERY broken (you can literally just keep circling around them and they will never hit you), but i had a lot of fun with that game. the magic system is really cool, and the weapon combining/leveling system is also really neat (if you have 2 of the same weapon type you can combine them to get a more powerful version of the same weapon. you can keep doing this over and over to keep beefing up the same weapon). also that game literally throws achievement points at you (i had 800-ish after one bare-bones playthrough) which is always welcome :shades:

lost planet is too damn difficult for it's own good.

So:

The graphics beat the shit out of PS3's

Isn't a fanboy statement ?

If he wasn't being a fanboy, he'd say "I prefer the 360's graphics to the PS3" and the comparison he took, of MULTIPLATFORM GAMES THAT WERE DEVELOPED ON THE 360 AND PORTED TO THE PS3, even though I have both those games, and the graphics on the on PS3 pwn the 360 when HD is on FULL and Superwhite is turned on, now if he compares the graphics of Exclusives..... *Tells Psiclone to grab some popcorn and pull up a seat*

And I defend the PS3 when fanboys start attacking it, stating that it's shit when they most likely have never played one, fair enough, if they have, but no need to attack something that they don't like, thats just being insulting and pathetic (Just like Racists, they should go die...), they could just say "I prefer the 360 over the PS3" but no, they have to go and nitpick over rumours that the 360 supposedly "pwns" the PS3 when it's the other way around for obvious reasons, but I shan't get into a debate.

I don't even know what a "fanboy" is. I don't like PS3. You don't like 360. So... aren't you a "fanboy" as well?

I've never even played a PS3 to be honest, but I've only heard bad things about them, until this thread, actually. That's all just my opinion. I've had a PS1 and PS2, and I'll probably eventually end up with a PS3. But I'd buy an Xbox. I love my Xbox. Cool? Lol.

I didn't say I don't like the 360, I have on myself, and see, you stated that the 360 was better than the PS3 without playing one, and by hearing "bad reviews" from people who get paid to be biased, all the reviews say Halo 3 is amazing, I find it to be utter bullshit, I'm glad I didn't buy the game, cause I wasn't fond on the first two, but I played it at my friends, and thought it was wank.

A Fanboy is someone who arse rapes one console and bullshits about the other because they've never played it and listened to all the internet rumours.

And as I said before, I was defending the PS3 cause you were attacking it with some lame bullshit you found off the internet.
