Icon Tutorial

That's a great tutorial, but I don't recommend blurring icons at all. They lose some of their detail that way. Icons look much better without it imo, at least at the size we use in RMXP. If you are going to blur, you should keep the outline seperate so it won't blend in with backgrounds.

In some image editors without layers, it also messes with transparency because of the background no longer being a solid color. Looking forward to seeing what some of you come up with. :)

Good tut, but i was wondering how to make the backgrounds of the icons transparent in photoshop, so when i use my icon i made and apply it to a weapon in RMXP, when i see it ingame i can see the icon but i get a white background that makes it look horrible... answer would be appreciated.

Hmm, imma download Photoshop then somewhere... or but it, depends how much I gonna like it.
Been working on a RPGMXP game for quite some time now, Icons allways been a hard one, especially when you have item s like Hunter's cap of the Eagle, Pidgeon, Spearow, Hawk and 20 more and you want to give them all another Icon ;p.

I'm a proffesional tileset maker myself. I've already contributed a few things to tilesets. They should do some good.

Awesome tutorial! I knew how to make icons kind of, but now I get the shading part alot better. I made a sword, of corse. I wanted to try something else though. And I remembered that I didn't have an icon for the "trash" you can catch while fishing. So I made http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/1741/cansh6.png[/IMG]

Lol yes its a soda can. But that's what I thought of when I thought " trash ".

Nice Soda ;) Suggestion, maybe hint at 'lines' where the can bends at the top and bottom? and maybe a open 'tab' sticking out... horizontally anyhow. Don't need that much detail. But otherwise, it looks really good :)

EDIT:

Here's a "Metal-edged" Staff I did -- I wouldnt' mind some criticism ;)
