Haasten (Beta Demo) d(ovo)

This game is on crack. It is so wonderfully bizarre it caught my eye the second I saw a picture for it (the screen with the little girls face in the moon). It takes a lot for me to download a demo recently but this one drew me in right away. I definitely didn't feel like I wasted my time wondering through your goofy world. Too bad the game crashed for me (someone in the hall I talked to gave me an UMS script error). Looking forward to playing the real game.

Can you elaborate a little more about the problem so I can fix it? If it was the hallway then it must have been the weapon shop lady, but there shouldn't be a problem there I don't think...
 
Actually it was in Ixis room. I think it had to do with the event testing the blinking animation. Although it is not crashing for me now so I am not sure what it could of been.
 
Oh, that's with Drago's blinking animation. Unlike some of the other characters he doesn't have a "talking" and "resting" animation state, so that means there's probably a character event in the game with talking and resting animations that doesn't return the talking and resting animations to nil when the dialogue is complete.

This problem will be fixed by the next installment, 100% guaranteed! }:3
 
This is perfect combination of twisted ideas, based off a great game(gameplay I mean :) ) and I love the sprites. Just playing this demo made me want to make an account so I can tell you what a great game it is! I cannot wait to play the real deal.
 
Were you looking for feedback as well, because there was one thing I would change...

And that is the way the shop works, you talk, then pick talk, then pick a choice, then your dumped back to the begining, so if you wanted to chack out choice 2, you'd have to go all back into the menu... Anyways, not a big deal.

Also, were you going to draw the subway, I'm assuming yes. It just throws off the flow I think.

Actually, yes, I am taking feedback! Thanks for the tip about the shop. It won't take much to change it.

And the subway won't be there in the actual game. I was just looking for a photo to go along with the story I came up with for the demo.
 
The artwork is pretty slick, the drawings, that is. The fonts seem stretched and not so clean. It makes the drawings feel bad. You might could do some tilesets in the same style of the artwork as well. Some of it doesn't mix, as stated previously.

I'm gonna have a look see at the demo though...
 
The font? From... The screenshots, or the demo? If the demo you're playing has strange fonts than maybe the font wasn't installed right on your demo?

The font is Press Start, and is a True-Type Font. RMXP shouldn't be stretching it as far as I know, and in fact, the font by default was edited to be smaller and thinner than what's normally used in RMXP. :S

And, again, the tilesets where only there so I could have a place to put the sprites. Definition of Alpha.

@Ixis; in both the demo and the screens shots. It's kind of blurred around the edges. I didn't have that font but the auto install font script installed it, then restarted the game.

The game itself is pretty funny. It actually kept my interest longer than most the demo's I've tried. I remember what Alpha means. It's like the first letter of the Greek alphabet. I'll wait for the Omega version.

@~@ Sorry... Been playing Elite Beat Agents all night... It's messing with my head... I need to go lie down... I choose the press start font because it's an old-school video game kinda font. And it was free. If I find a better one I might use it, but so far you're the only one that commented on it... Now... Need sleep... Need... Now...

Oh yeah, and downloading yer demo... Will try tomorrow... Ugh.
 
Can I just say I worship you? This game looks so querky and fun! My ONLY complaint is that the Face sets don't match the character sets and the character sets don't match the backgrounds. The artwork is so amazing but in my opinion the blocky characters just ruin the over-all look. But hey, It does look good!

I look forward to seeing the final version! (Now-on to my game!)

Yes-yes... Everyone talks about the blocky characters compared to the complex backgrounds... I was trying to get a Japanese comic/Disney cartoon kind of thing going where you have complex backgrounds with simplified characters but it doesn't seem to be working...

I think I'll go back to the old way I did backgrounds, back when the game was for Mac.

I really enjoy how the sprites look now. I think they fit well with the mood of your game. XD It's very odd, and it makes sense that the charasets look a bit odd. I hope you don't change it :3 I was liking the simple characters.

Yeah well, I made the backgrounds match the characters more for when you're outside Haasten's House. When yer inside, it'll be a different story.

Good to know other people like the backgrounds though! d(-_-)

The main things I noticed (And it may seem odd, but they are so often ignored by many people) were the nice transitions, the cleverness of the IXIS trick (very nice little bit of intelligent game design there) and the writing around characters- if you keep that in the main game, I will definitely be playing as it just added some nice humour in the background.

Edit: I just noticed, I hope you aren't replacing the character decider screen with the test tubes, as I love it how it is. =D

Thanks. The player information sequence has changed, but it fits better with the plot of the game. I think if you saw that whole scene in-context you might enjoy it more.^_^
