Feck, you're good. I can't wait 'til it's released, bro, it's looking uber. You're very good at spriting, too.. wouldn't mind you on a project! :P

We think that Despain's a genius, who should be worshipped.
Does that mean, we'll worship him? No, it does not, .
Finally, Des, I was beginning to wonder when you were going to finish this. Thanks for  trying to "Finish the Fight"

Sure, I'll help.
1) People's arms move when they walk.
2) The head should bob while walking.
3) Torso should turn a little.

Here's a site I use for animation purposes - it could help you out. It's got tons of pictures and videos.
It may be NSFW, though, due to nudity in some galleries.

It's in the knees...somewhere... I dunno if this would help, but I would look as some 6 frame walk cycles on Deviantart.com or video tape someone walking.

gratheo: he hasn't done the arms yet...

It's the knees. They aren't bending enough, meaning the leg doesn't stretch in a realistic way so he appears to be sliding. This happens with most larger templates due to the limited frames, but if you worked ont he general movement between knee and thigh it'd get better.

The sideview of the head looks odd to me. I can't see much wrong with the animation..
but you should make the head ellipsical again..

Yeah, your front leg is stiff, you need to make it bend more. If i get around to it i will make a little stick animation for you

EDIT: Never mind, My .Gif maker isn't working

Smoke and GeredrethM are the only templates I've seen on here coming surprisingly close to the one I perfected (which I permit myself to say after two years of fussing over it) - but then again your original Geredreth sprites were a big inspiration in how to create modern looking, well proportioned sprites. So if we end up with similar looking sprites in our creations, I wasn't ripping off your hard work on Smoke & GM! :)

The walk is fine in three frames, because we imagine the middle frames being accurate and cycling. The middle frames you added, though, aren't the walk cycle - they're the slide cycle. ;)

Just look at the animated run cycles lying around for the missing frames - if you're making it more than three, you need the 'heel drags ground back, bent knee in background' and 'bent knee with raised foot in foreground, background heel drags back' frames. As is you're watching the foot slip backwards and forward, as typically happens with fewer frames, and of course that won't feel right.

Adding arms will certainly help the illusion so you're less likely to pick at it, though.

Glad you like it so far, and it's nice to have some solid input. :)

Scribblette, I know that's the problem, I was hoping someone might find some suggestions to keep the sliding animation but just make it look smoother.

I can't turn it into a regular walk cycle unless I get a scripter to totally change the way the walk cycle is handled, which might be the route I take. The way RMXP works, the idle frame is in the middle of the animation, and the only way to allow that is to create the sliding effect.

I'm thinking of just going that route, dumping what I have now. I can probably get someone to script the movement for me (I have already asked Yeyinde to edit the movement to allow the additional frames, it might not be too far of a stretch for him to edit the cycle to allow the idle frame to be separate from the walk animation).

Thanks.

Aye, I'd just go with the three. It's hard enough to do the billion poses you want for a sprite let alone all the additional frames. :) The illusion of that middle pose is so much easier with smaller sprites than it is on that size...

good luck!
