Ah, another old X-com fan. I'm interested to know what your take on Apocalypse was.
On subject, I would like to see all of the old RE's remeade with the RE4 engine. Naturally, they would have to greatly increase the number of monsters, or include the "wounded zombies become lickers" concept, but other than that, it would work well. I'd like to see a remake of FF9 where I might actually die once, too.
Oh, Apocalypse was pretty good actually, since it had most of the stuff that its daddy had. What it missed out on, though, was the fear factor. All of your initial squad actually had armour and medikits this time, drastically increasing their survivability. And Mega-Primus was very clinical. And the large amount of interiors meant fewer issues with night missions. Oh, and the real-time mode allowed you to have many more shots at the target, meaning even rookies could get kills if you gave them a Marsec Machine gun or an Autocannon with explosive shells (fun!).
Though I suppose it did have exploding debris instead (Jezuit, tacticals in the weapons factory were SCARY!). Biological warfare was a nice touch, city interceptions were fun (though ground vehicles were crap), and X-COMs own Retaliator and Annihilator are some the coolest battlecraft to ever grace a game, even if they are retro 50's style.
Its just a shame that XP hates it. Its also too modern to run in Dosbox (was a win95 game, if I remember right). You have to get past the installer being confused by the fact your CD drive is too absurdly fast for its benchmark test to recognise. Lol at messages of "Your CD drive must be at least 4x speed to install this game, but yours is only 52x."
Even if you can get past that (manual copy from CD), sound setup requires VDMsound to confuse it into thinking you've got an AWE32 or something. And then, finally in game, mouse sensitivity and screen scrolling speed is absurd, and makes it unplayable. <Sigh>
EDIT: Lol, I just looked at my bookshelf and spotted the X-COM Apocalypse strategy guide, next to the Civ III and X-COM Interceptor guides.
