Before I forget, could I ask that everybody who completes the demo post their final game time so that I can get some sort of average amount (people who play the game in Beta Testing and myself get weird times for testing everything and/or knowing exactly what to do).

So yeah, if you could post those final times in here I'd appreciate it.

Well I've ran into another speed bump... It seems that the battle system I'm currently using is having a little bit of a targetting issue and until I can get it fixed the project may be post-poned.

However if indeed I do get the problem fixed then you should expect another demo that will contain the materia system (hurrah!) and most likely a few more systems if the SDK will behave!

If you want, you can make me create HQ animated battlers, I might make the ghost of Cloud Strife as a optional boss who is very hard to kill and makes the game more addicting.

I'm actually still alive!

Very important exams had stopped me from actively working on this project, but back in August I released a beta version that now works fully. This new demo increases the game time by an additional hour (assuming that you go directly between areas and know exactly what you are doing).

Please note that this game can seem a little open-ended at this time however there are lots of hints that you will need to interpret to fully understand your next destinations etc.

Anyway, the demo is on the front page. It is version 4.1.04.

This project actually looks pretty nice! But if you want a consistent FFVII project, and not another failed FFVII fangame, it would be better to follow the Compilation story.

Where's Denzel ??! That kid is the future of FFVII. Actually, I've been thinking in a cool FFVII project ideas, but I don't have any team to work with.

If you want any help with the project, I'm here and glad to help. (PM if you want)

Cheers! ;)

I already consider this consistent, thank you very much :P

But as I've said a few times in this thread, the story was written before any of the other pieces of the compilation were released outside of Japan, therefore I can't afford to adapt to the new story.

However, I've been thinking the story over and there really isn't any real reason why the events of Advent Children couldn't have occured, sure they'll never be mentioned but:

  • When writing the second section of the story, Serparon's writer mentioned a 'Sector 9' of Midgar that was used to house some people that had lost their homes from Meteor. Effectively this could be considered 'Edge'.
  • Denzel could too exist. In the 'Denzel's Case' OVA and novella, Denzel is seen as a loner, so it's entirely possible that he would no longer live with Marlene and yet still exist.

Oh wow, when I first saw the title I thought to myself this was gonna be another Sephiroth comes back, everyone comes together along with you-know-who and they end up fighting him.

I am very surprised O_O
I'll download it, it sounds interesting and I'm really happy it isn't another cliched sequel.

The problem about making FF Based games is that most of them (like VII & VIII) feature lame, boring plots filled with shallow characters so if you praise these plots, you obviously have no clue what a REAL storyline is like. Any hardcore gamer knows that FFIV and FFVI have stories that are superior in every possible way..
Burn Sephiroth!! :haha:

@Oracle Games: Would you mind telling me the point of what you just wrote...?
Right, so... shut up.

Anyways...

Aerif I admire the fact that you have made an ff fangame without trying to bring back characters like cloud and sephiroth.

I'll play this when I can get about two hours out of it.

Best of luck

Hey guys lets not make this into a flame thread (oracle games quit acting like youre 4). Im glad to see this is still up and kicking, Im still keeping my eye on this :3

Okay so I've played through the demo and I'm going to post a review for you here but before I do I'll start with something I definitely feel the need to suggest.

When you have the "Dash" Icon or the "Move" icon come up, please make it a parallel process as an Auto-play it really gets frustrating when you're trying to move around quickly and it keeps stopping you to quite literally move faster than normal. Irony anyone?

Now that that's out of the way I'll be posting my review in about an hour or two.

@OracleGames: Although this thread is not really the place to discuss the finer points of the early Final Fantasy games, I have to say I disagree with you. FFIV was very clichéd and predictable (I mean seriously Cecil, will you get it into your thick head that Kain is evil!) and FFVI should have been better written as a few main characters have less than 50 lines in the whole game.

@Petros: I'm going to have to look into editing the 'dash' system as you're right, it makes it seem redundant in smaller areas. The thing is that when dealing with movement in a Parallel Process it can get a little funny. I'll have to mess around with it a bit.

I'm not going to give up on this project. It's just a great motivation if people actually want to play it  , personally I think it should have more than 5 downloads just now

I supposed I would enjoy this the moment I layed eyes on the opening scenes. Use of the music was on point. In Addition to that the game certaintly "felt" like a final fantasy title. As far is your mapping is concerned, some of it was good and some of it was meh. You should either find something to make the big open spaces not seem so empty, or make the rooms smaller. My only other complaint is the animations; you can probably easily find some around the internet... somewhere.
Also a word of advice: Don't stop making your game just because people aren't playing it. It will take some time for your project to gather a lot of popularity. Some people are just waiting for you to be completely done with it.

 Sigh! With fan games like these, I am beginning to understand why people LOATHE them to begin with. This is one of my favorite video games (FFVII), I just wish there was someone making a fangame that was good. I played the old demo, it felt more of MARLENE got up one day sort of feel, and second of all, without any of the main characters, or a thread from the previous game, it can't be considered a fan sequel AT ALL! Another thing, you not having Sephiroth in it, didn't phase me at all, because he's not really needed in a game, and is sort of refreshing (Unlike Phantasy Star or the Matrix movies). But you don't understand that Sephiroth is not dead, and never will be dead!

Yeah, an uncliched fan game only means one thing: BORING! Because usually people who go this route try so HARD to keep from being cliched that it because another cliche! In my opinion, a good story has to have strong characters and something that draws you into the chaos that this game just is missing. (I am a RPG addict, and if I saw this game on the shelves, I wouldn't buy it even if it was on sale for 4.99.)

NOTE: But have fun making it!

I haven't read all the posts here, but are you flaming TC? That's just wrong! =)

Although, I give you props for trying to make a fangame based on FFVII. I've tried to start one once too, and I understand how it feels when we can't please all the fans, especially from a saga like FFVII... one of the most known games in the world.

You should create a better story and a better destination for the main characters, like Cloud being a trainer, counselor, someone important that could guide you and give hints through the game.

But keep it up man, if you complete the game I might give it a try! ;)

Cheers
