Final Fantasy VII-2: Chronicles [Demo - 23/11/09]

There goes mine; I think demos should have a reasonable amount of content for the 1st-2nd release.

Sooooooo, I picked option 2.

I will play this whenever it is released(I've been stalking).

Woo! I have a stalker!

I have four votes and one comment... It'd be nice if people actually gave a reason for voting...

Anyway, everything bar some eventing is complete for a first dungeon release. And even with such little content I can tell that this is at least 10x better than the original version. Here's hoping production continues so well

Alright I have some good news... and some bad news.

Good News: The poll was close so I decided to go with the first option, the demo will not include Caije.

Bad News: I've had some problems with scripts and it seems the crafting system and the Sudoku system is broken. I'm going to try to add some more content to the PC but when the demo comes some things may cause unfortunate crashes :(

Just updating to tell you all that we're currently in the Beta stage and that I have 10 Beta Testers playing through it just now.

I'm going away next week so I expect that the demo should be realeased on Saturday 18th October. The demo should last about 15 minutes to half an hour and depending how long it takes my testers to play through it, this topic may be moved to the Completed Projects Forum, which should bring much more traffic.

No job changing at all?
And you make it in XP? Will there be a worldmap?
What about the battlesystem?
Reading the topic, the game doesn't sound Final Fantasy to me at all.
A fangame with no real FF background or atmosphere is a fail to me.

So apart from the side-view battle system, the limit-break system, the FFVII menu system, Marlene Wallace, the same world, chocobo racing at a later date and the fact that it's a bloody sequel to Final Fantasy VII, yeah, I can see that it has almost nothing to do with the Final Fantasy Series.

Because we all know that every Final Fantasy has a world map and a job changing system...

Wait...

The majority didn't have job changing and some recent ones haven't had world maps!

EDIT: Since it's resolved there's no need for the last part

So how's your game thread coming along, Dewoor? Oh. Wait. You don't have one so you really don't have any right to complain!

Wrong. Although you might not like it, its his valid opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own remarks and what not. If you dont like it then just ignore it. This is an open forum.

Distributing these kinds of remarks wont attract people to your thread, ill tell you that now.

Oh look, a DEMO has became available in the first post.

This is actually a day I thought I'd never see since for all the Final Fantasy Fangames here, there don't seem to be many gameplay demos. I guess it's just because some people don't want to dedicate time to a fangame though I'm hopeing at the end of this I'll have something (albeit not very impressive) for my portfolio of game design.

Come on... I know that there was at least a little intrest in this project, yet as far as I can tell nobody has downloaded the demo yet.

Hmm.

It took ages to actually get anywhere, with the long title sequence with the credits, only to find that I walked into a room with guards in to be greeted with an automatic game over...

At least let me try and fight the guards first

Oops... Maybe I should've put a warning out to tell people that there will be a few of those moments when you won't exactly be rewarded for doing something stupid - like walking into a room filled entirely with guards.

A good idea is to save after the title sequence because it does take a few minutes (around 3~ish).

Anyway, Wyatt thanks for downloading it, even if you did die quite soon I still appreciate it

It would be better if it just let you fight the guards. (You know like in the train tunnel, where you can try to leave but the guard will stop you - it lets you fight him, but still wont let you leave even if you beat him).

The Intro is cool and the game overall has a FFVII like feeling.
Too bad about the Materia system though.
So I'm liking it so far, keep up the good work.

Ok, so this looks really good for a FFVII fan game. Story seems good but I've got one issue.
They're using Materia.

If you've seen Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, you should've noticed that the heroes don't use Materia.
This is because using Materia is also bad for the planet. I remember reading that in a translated interview somewhere.
I suppose since your story isn't really FFVII canon it doesn't matter but I just figured you should know.

With the uptmost respect, why did you think it was important that I know? Do you really expect me to stop my project or edit out a large part of it because you disagree?

And also, before you start stating things, make sure that they're correct, although none of AVALANCHE used materia in FFVII:AC, Yuffie was ready too once she found them, if the heroes had access to them then they probably would have used them as using materia isn't actually bad for the planet.

What you probably read in the interview was that Mako was bad for the planet, seeing as it is effectivley draining the lifeforce from the planet (which is why Barret is searching for oil). Materia is the opposite of this and is the crystallisation of the lifestream that is created to help balance out the energy flow, so technically using it is good.

I'm also quite certain that Vincent used it in FFVII:DoC

Hi. I decided to give the demo a go, because I got nostalgic for FF, after listening to some old midis I've found by accident.

I played until the guards blew me up in the Corel building. Generally I liked what I played.
Here's a quick overview of what I played.

First the negative things:
-The interior Inquisitor tileset doesn't really fit in my opinion to the final fantasy 7 world. Maybe the other towns are closer to the retro-future look, but Corel building wasn't doing it for me.
-The music selection is choppy. Don't get me wrong I love FF music, but the changes between the themes didn't quite fit.
-Marlene's PC. Even though it is an awesome idea, is way too slow. Images take forever to come and go and the mouse/staff used to select things isn't that user friendly.

Now the positive stuff.
-Pretty intro! A simple train doing nothing special but combined with the music gave me a nice nostalgic feeling.
-All the computers. Love them. I wish the tileset was a bit more futuristic as I said above, but anyway the computers kept the feeling there.
-I like most of the dialogue, and I love the here and there humoristic one liners from the npcs.

I believe there is potential here and I plan to play the demo a bit more.
Keep working!

PS: In FF:AC they do use materia 100%. For example Kadaj "equips" one and it blends into his glove in a scene (don't remember exactly which one). They even summon Bahamut!

The music theme that plays when you see Marlene leave and return from school is currently just a placeholder... It's not even from FFVII (it may be from FFIV).

I sort of see where your coming from on the tilesets, personally I like them but I can see why they may not always fit in correctly. Unfortunatly, even though the Inquisitor has stated that he will make a Sci-Fi tileset it's unlikely that it will fit in, and it was at the bottom of his to do list.

I'm thinking of removing the cafeteria scene, or changing it so it's not insta-game-over. If that's all you've played I'd recommend you play until the ending, it has a cliffhanger
