Welcome to HBGames, a leading amateur game development forum and Discord server. All are welcome, and amongst our ranks you will find experts in their field from all aspects of video game design and development.
Today is my last day of vacation.
I did a lot on the editor these past 2 weeks but I won't be able to be that productive until Christmas.
But, until then, I have a little something for you.
I've been talking a lot about what I was doing, posting a few screenshots from time to time, but here's something a little more concrete:
This is a pre-alpha version of the editor!
I'm letting this out to have a more precise idea on what you think about it. The look and feel, etc.
But before even installing it, you have to be aware of the following:
This is a Pre-Alpha version. What does this mean? It means that this software has not been extensively tested and can be highly unstabled. It may crash and you may lose data created with it. So don't expect to be able to start making your game yet.
Now that this clarified, there's a couple of features that have been locked, others that you whould avoid and some that are just missing:
- The Monster edior
- The Status editor
- The Terrain editor
- The Import feature (you can only import from a ROM image when creating a new game)
- Most of the System settings
- Some other things you will find in other editors might not work as well.
- Modify event commands once there created
- Big Maps
- Drawing tiles too fast
- Zomming on maps to fast
- Messing around with the Event Groups Tree
- Copy/Cut/Paste/Delete any data in a tree
- The Spells, Items and Battle Commands editor (you can create data and assign them to actors but nothing more for now)
So in a nutshell, you can create a small map with as many layers as you want, add some events (with a character, message and choices), add the player start, create actors and characters, create character animations and assign them to characters, specify an initial party and test your game.
There's a couple of other things you can do obviously. So explore a bit.
If you have any problems using it, please tell me what's the problem.
If you encounter a crash, let me know what you were doing before.
I hope this will give you a better idea on how things will look in the futur!
And as usual, if you have comments or suggestions, feel free to share them!
< .< Oh my god. You are awesome! I can't believe you released a demo!
I love it. It's clean, efficient, and awesome. Very nicely done, sir :3
EDIT: I think my favorite part is the script editor XD
EDIT2: I can't create a map o.0 Did you include any resources with it? Cause it's finding none.
EDIT3: I can't use anything. None of the RTP copied over, and it doesn't read anything I put in the game folders. Oh well. But the editor looks quite nice.
Are you running this on Windows Vista or Windows 7?
If that's the case then my guess is that you have problems because of system security.
I tried it on Window 98, 2000 and XP and had no problems,
However, I tried it on my brother's computer, which is on Windows 7 and he wasn't able to create a project. The editor wasn't able to create the project folders and wasn't able to copy the game files.
The RTP is installed in the same directory as the editor and the installer writes a key in the registry, at the same place where RPGVX RTP are installed.
Nope...I can't do anything. I can install it someplace else than I already have...I only have one drive. Let me try and uninstall and install it someplace else.
EDIT:
Okay, doing that allowed me to create a project.
But...are there supposed to be tilesets or something?
@MagitekElite
I tried it on Windows 7. Installing it on the drive that contains my OS doesn't work. It crashes as soon as I click the New Project button.
So to make it work I simply uninstalled the program and reinstalled it on another drive with lower security and it worked fine.
I was able to create a project and access the RTP
That screenshot looks amazing. I restate my opinion that this may be an overall "step up" from RMXP/RMVX in general. When are you looking at the next preliminary code release, and will it be open sourced? I really want to get a look at the code for the editor and fiddle with it for my own purposes.

I had to install it twice to make it work, but I like the way it is laid out. It seems like it will make projects manageable and I like how most things can be customized. As others have pointed out, there are several buttons and menu items that will crash the entire editor, but this is to be expected for a pre-alpha build. I haven't tried to make anything yet, just played with it to try different functions and see what everything does and where it goes. I guess there isn't much to do without some resources, but it looks to have great potential.
Ah, so (unless I misunderstood) I copied the graphics folder from the RTP to inside of my project folder and nothing...also, if I select events or another button, it shuts off...
